Art Journal Challenge February Week 1 {PATIENCE}

The World Needs Love, ❤️ Not Hate. Be a Lover.
CHEERY O
Hello my Artsy friends!!!! Welcome to February, and our topic {PATIENCE}!

Ironically, you had to wait a few extra days for this challenge - so you're already practicing patience right now - hopefully it didn't drive you too crazy to wait!

For February, we want you to explore the theme of {PATIENCE} and how this concept is shown in your life. This could be in the way of personal growth or even goals you might have for yourself. .

What does "patience" mean to you?

Here are a few quotes I found to get you started thinking about the subject:
1. “Our patience will achieve more than our force.” Edmund Burke

2. “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” Leo Tolstoy

3. “Patience attracts happiness; it brings near that which is far.” Swahili Proverb

4. "Learning patience can be a difficult experience, but once conquered, you will find life is easier." Catherine Pulsifer

5. “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” Unknown

6. “With love and patience, nothing is impossible.” Daisaku Ikeda

7. “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” John Quincy Adams

8. “I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.” Lao Tzu

9. “It is very strange…that the years teach us patience; that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting.” Elizabeth Taylor in "A Wreath of Roses"

10. "Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything." George Bernard Shaw

Here are some synonyms for "patience," depending on the context:
  • Even-tempered
  • fortitude
  • Calmness
  • Serenity
  • Tranquility
  • Resolve
  • Tenacity
  • Endurance
  • Perseverance

Some Interesting Tidbits:

Creative Patience is an individual’s ability to accept and embrace their own creative process, including its flaws/weaknesses, while maintaining a healthy mental state. It is a culmination of self-awareness, accountability & self-care that will benefit your creative life.

In fact, this entire article is really good!!

And now here is a mood board to get some more thoughts bouncing around!

My Page:

Now...some Housekeeping:
You can choose to do a single page/tag/TN each week, or do a divided template - one part for each week. If you don't have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you do the template, we would love it if you would post it incrementally. Post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and three on the third, and then the finished page on the fourth week.

Again - the template is NEVER a requirement to use, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

Challenge Rules:
You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on February 28th to complete your pages for this challenge.
  1. To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  2. You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  3. You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  4. Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)
Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:
  • Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  • This will open your gallery, simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Your linked layout is now in your post, the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button

GAH!!!!! The very epitome of my current life challenge, and my nemesis. LOL!:giggle4: Should be a great challenge month! dance3

So worth waiting a couple extra days! Love the moodboard and cant wait to see what happens this month. Thanks for the great start. Off to scrap now. :D

I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for stepping in and introducing this month’s theme. I really appreciate you taking over and making sure everything stayed on track!

thank you for this.
I took my main inspirations from the mood board. The beach themed images led me to the High Tide Mixed media collection, and then I played with paint using the colour swatch.
Quote 5 is something I'm trying to sit in at the moment with something that's happening with my dad's health, and Quote 3 is a really nice quote that I really like so I've added them both to the page
5. “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” Unknown
3. “Patience attracts happiness; it brings near that which is far.” Swahili Proverb

rSo sorry it was late, but ironically it fit the theme! LOL :dancing6:

I came here 2 days ago and looking for the Feb. word (I was ready to start before the week ended...lol) and OMG where is it?? I was actually thinking it would be LOVE, but Patience is perfect. I got called into my primary doctor's office with news on CT of lungs, thinking it would be about the nodule on my lung and had a nerve-wracking day and had to work to keep the focus on my other activities. It turned out to be that I have a lung infection and was started on steroids and antibiotics and won't know about the lung until the Feb 18. The good news is that after starting the meds on Tues. nite, yesterday and today I felt the best I have in over a month....yahoo! Here is week #1.

I am loving the papers in the Christmas collab by NLD Designs (also still using my laptop instead of my desktop, so don't have much of a stash). Still using Affinity, still hate its GUI (wanna talk about trying one's patience??!!). Found out that you can't copy styles between text layers (there is a different procedure to define a style for text layers, but it's too much of a hassle for a one-shot use as is usually wanted for digiscrapping). OTOH still having plenty of fun with AI.

The modified "extreme visual journaling" technique I used this time: used a random number generator to pick a string of about six words from the poem (e.g. word #2 in the poem = "has"). I wasn't strict when adhering to the random number generator's actual string and I forget exactly which words were in the string, but they more or less included the five I highlighted. It'd be the same as cutting out the words in the poem, throwing them into a jar and picking out a few. Then you look at the ones you picked and see if any new insight arrives. So there are actually two thought themes related to the poem - the one Dickinson intended (or at least the one you think she intended) and one that has personal meaning for you (which may not even have anything to do with patience).

Susie, the hardest part of this challenge for me was picking a quote! LOL All of them spoke to me and I also used some of the colors from your mood board too. Awesome choices!!

I finally got my Week 1 page done. I have to be "PATIENT" with myself because during my month of icks, I seem to have lost my mojo. I had to hunt it down to get this page done.
