The zoo

I've been to the zoo today. An aquazoo, with lots of water animals. I don't ever go to the zoo out because I feel animals don't belong in a zoo. They belong in the wild.
I broke my own principle because of my new camera. I love animals, I think they are so beautiful. And so many of the most beautiful animals do not live in the Netherlands in wild. I just wanted some great pics.

I got some great pics, but I'm not happy with myself. Beautiful animals, living in too small cages. Birds not being able to fly, a polar bear alone in a snowless, too warm enviroment and so on. Maybe I am exaggerating, but some of the animals, if not many, seemed so sad. I felt guilty.

Afterwards we went to the Waddenzee, a very special Dutch nature resort. A place where birds do what they are supposed to do. Where animals live the life they are supposed to live.

All and all we had a wonderful day out. You will see some of the pictures I've made in my layouts. But I don't think I will visit a zoo again!

I totally agree with you about animals that don't belong in a zoo. That is also the reason that I never go there.
I even let my own rabbit roam freely in the house, my parakeet flew loose in my house, anyway people declared me crazy.
I said would you like to be locked in a cage?

Jeanette, there were very few zoos that I would go to and be comfortable with- the Animal Kingdom in Disney and the Bronx Zoo had lots of space for the animals. Most others just made me want to cry (really, I wanted to open up all of the cages but then that would mean *I* would be living in a cage too!)
I am excited to see your LOs! Congrats on the new camera!

Vera- Caitlyn was the same with her bunny- she had a huge house but Bunny preferred to be out and about in the room. All of Cait's rats get lots of time out on the bed and floor of her room too. OTOH-- I am glad that Scott's pets stay inside of their cages-- he has a snake and a tarantula! :spider:

We used to have bunnies too, they wandered through the house. Our cats also are allowed to go outside whenever they want. And it is one of the reason we got our dog Angel. She had been in a cage in the shelter for almost two year. We just wanted her to get out of there and live in a normal house.

Has your rabbit bitten as much as ours? He has bitten several cables (from my computer screen, vacuum cleaner, iron and much more)

OMG-- I can not tell you how many wired and cables Cait's bunny chewed through. The rats thankfully don't have the same instinct- it has something to do with rabbits chewing through vines and roots when they were wild. However, Evvie is a nibbler, likes to nibbles on fingernails mostly, and she started to chew the phone charger. Still one phone charger in the last 5 years is nothing compared to what Bun did.

I feel we are lucky where I live that the zoo has taken great care to create habitats for the animals that are as spacious and as close to nature as possible. As a matter of fact, people sometimes complain that they can't see the animals clearly because they are too far away, or up in a tree, or whatever! Recently, our zoo just completed a breeding program where they were able to hatch and raise tadpoles of an endangered species of frog, and sent the tadpoles to a southern state to be released into the wild. If all zoos were like that, it might not be such a bad thing. I would visit our zoo more often if it were a little bit closer. It is a great place to get amazing photos, and I look forward to seeing yours!

Angie-- that is my kind of zoo. It has been years since I have been to the Bronx Zoo but I remember how you could barely see the giraffes, I hope that the tadpoles are able to flourish!
