The Loopy-O
CHEERY O
This week off from school went by fast! It felt great being able to sleep in a bit. I was up mostly before 6, but much better than the stooopid alarm going off at 5 am. That is just brutal.

How was your New Year's Day? We did pretty much nothing here. I packed a few things away into the attic, vacuumed the dining room, puttered around. Cait wanted to go tot he dog park so we went over there after dropping Brendan at work, and it was closed. :( I guess when the feed store is closed it is too which was a bummer. We let them play in the backyard which just is not the same for Jaida since she has to be hooked up on a lead and Ray doesn't. We figured we had to make it worth our while getting bundled up (we both had on 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of socks, hats, gloves and scarves), so a half hour in the yard was what we did to console ourselves.
Unfortunately it looks like we are finally going to get winter weather and temps which make sit hard for us to get outside. The kids and I have Reynauds and when we get cold, it is painful. Beyond painful

Today is Xmas #2 and I can't wait to see everyone. Hopefully I can keep myself in check and no overdo it.

Any good weekend plans?

Laurie- hi there! Have you started the new job? Myrtle Beach sounds like a fantastic place to be for the new year.

Nancy- totally with ya on not ever wanting to be in Times Square. But good for you for making it to midnight!
I wish there was a way to heath the bag but it has to stay high up on the pole so gravity will make it drip. I can sometimes put the heat pack on the line before it gets to my arm but it doesn't always warm it enough.
Lemon chicken soup sounds so good, and I love spanikopita too!

Rae- my Ray is like your Taz- fireworks freak her out and she shakes and shakes. Its so sad to watch-- and feel as she will try to burrow underneath me, or lay on the bed making that shake. We rescued Ray when she was 6 months old- she was brought up here from a kill shelter in GA, and we always wonder what happened to her that made her so fearful.
Good luck with the new WW! I am sure you will drop that weight quickly, esp since you did it before.
I do have an electric blanket, but it is in the upstairs closet and I always think of it when I all already hooked up down here. I should try to remember it when I am up there again. Gotta love having no memory!

Trudy- hope that you had a wonderful day with your family!

Jean- hope you got to see lots of birds, and a happy new year to you and your hubby too!

Melissa- your NY sounds like a lot of fun and that tradition is so sweet! Where do you live? Totally jealous that you are close to a beach :D

Better get going... xoxoxo!

Morning! I keep thinking today is Sunday ... and then, woo hoo!! I have another day to the weekend still to go. :high5: Long weekends are great, but they tend to throw off my week - before and after! LOL

Made up my handy-dandy to-do list in front of me, ready to cross things off as the day goes on. Sad, right, that I have an actual written-down list for the weekend? Bill keeps just saying just chill ... but I can't. If I do, I feel like I'm wasting the day away. Point in case: I've been up for two hours, have already had breakfast, done some scrapping, logged in my food journal what I plan to eat today, and have hopped onto the scrapping forums ;) Still to do - take down all the Christmas decorations, a 1-hour workout at the gym, at least one O's challenge page, and minimum 1 hour of study for my HR certification.

Tomorrow I'll be logging onto work and doing office stuff. I got some unfortunate news late Thursday afternoon (like 2:30 pm - right as I was leaving the office!!) that my new payroll/HR person that was supposed to start on Monday backed out of the offer - and this was after we'd done her business cards already, chatted back and forth over the past few weeks, emailed ... and we even talked on TUESDAY about her start time for Monday. I was literally like this with our Director of Operations on the phone ... :censored::Cry::mmph::frusty::smash: ... all at the same time!! Her current company made her an offer that was truly amazing - they couldn't find anyone to replace her so they went above and beyond ... and we can't match it. *sigh* So, instead of getting an awesome person to help me out (after my former payroll person resigned - before I could fire her), I'm left to do everything myself until we get a replacement. Last time, it took nearly three months to find the girl that just backed out.

Phew.

Chris - getting colder here, too ... from 70's on Christmas Eve to about 45 now. Of course, no snow yet and the ground is so mushy and wet - eeeewww. But, at least it's starting to feel a bit like winter.

good morning - well having two dogs is quite an adventure but this time is so much calmer that the last time when Rex came and Luther was still in his cone. They actually play and can be around each other and rest. My whole family is sick with some sort of chest cough sinus cold and I am keeping away from them. Went and got the whole family chicken noodle soup to help them get well. And I try and make sure the dogs do ok. I am so glad that I have the backyard fenced and can just let them out. Took Luther on two walks to give Rex a bit of a relief and to get me some excise. Watched the NHL Winter Classic between Boston and Montreal. Montreal came out flying and won 5-1. Most lopsided ever. Today my Devils play the Dallas Stars at home and I am excited to see the best team in the league at this point.

Chris have fun with Christmas #2. Bummer the park was closed. And yes we are starting to have winter temperatures. I would not mind so much if I could see the sun!

Rae so sorry that Taz does not do well with fireworks. But he had you to snuggle. Good luck with WW. Working in that restaurant had to have been a great way to learn about Greek food. There was a Greek restaurant in the town I worked and it seemed like once a week we would go for lunch. We got to be regulars. That is where my kids learned to like the food.

Trudy so glad your dinner and sauce same out so well. Hope your family day went well. Cant believe how bad the Bruins looked!

Jean hope you saw lots of birds. Today on my walk with Luther was the first day I have seen geese and ducks in the river. So strange

Melissa having fun at the beach in the winter sounds too fun!

Have a great day all!

Hi Kat! that is such a bummer about losing your accountant so close to the start day! I am too much like your DH I say chill!

Have a great day and hope your list gets done!

Good morning, ladies. Took the tree down yesterday afternoon and today the rest of the decorations get packed away. We went out for lunch with the kids yesterday and then had pizza for dinner. I told my hubs to enjoy it b/c we're not ordering again for at least 2-3 months, depending on my WW success. I'm going to the produce market today to get some salad stuff and will make my "salad in a jar" for lunch next week. I fill up canning jars with layers of cooked spiced ground turkey, beans, greens, cheese, peppers, red onion and tomatoes. Then all I have to do is empty one into a large salad bowl and add my salsa/ranch/yogurt dressing. Taz had fun at the dog park yesterday. At first he was just interested in chewing sticks, as I chatted with the other dog owners. I was just about to say we'd be going home since he wasn't interested in being there, when he took off running after the dogs and they all played for about 1/2 hr. So it was a good outing for him. I froze to death standing there. We're in the middle of a cold snap and today is just as cold and frosty out. No snow though. Today is the coldest day we've had so far, -3°C this morning. The kids are coming over later to take Taz out on a long hike up the mountain trail. I need to get chores done, do laundry and figure out my dinner menu for the week. Until I become familiar with the new WW smart points system, I need to plan ahead as much as I can so I can be sure to stay within my points allowed.

Kat - since you're doing the WW too, lets pass on any info/recipe/blog sites, etc we come across that are using the smart points. Want to? That sucks about losing the new employee, hope she gets replaced quickly.

Chris - get the blanket downstairs so it'll be handy. I'm sure there's nothing worse than being cold with your IV. That's hard, having Raynaud's and feeling the cold so painfully. For your sake, I hope it warms up soon.

Nancy - that fenced yard is so convenient isn't it? It's great to just let the dogs out to play and work off some energy.

I'm going to do a bit of scrapping and then get going on my chores today. Have a great day, ladies!

Hey ladies... very late popping in here again today! SIL stayed the night, she caught a ride to the other SIL's for dinner yesterday and she just won't drive in the dark so I told her stay the night with us. We had a nice breakfast and then went to the local consignment store and she picked up some play food for her grandkids. She is flying out to watch them for a couple of weeks and wanted a gift to take with her. It is an awesome place that sells a lot of Melissa and Doug toys and bonus everything was on sale!! DH and I are out the door to get the errands done, so I am sorry that I can't stay to do personals, but really hope to get back here later today to get some Admin stuff done for the site. Hope everyone has a fabulous Saturday, which feels like a Sunday!! :becky:

Kat - since you're doing the WW too, lets pass on any info/recipe/blog sites, etc we come across that are using the smart points. Want to?

Deal! The new SmartPoints are going to take a bit of getting used to, but it looks like the "better" or healthier options are all the lower carb, lower sugar and lower fat ones. Well, what do you know?! ;) LOL It's interesting, though, when I plug things into the food journal ... especially since it now gives the full nutrition breakdown of the foods. I did a little exercise and tossed in white potoates, sweet potatoes, brown rice, and whole wheat pasta to see what would work best for dinner tonight - we're having salmon (which, btw, the wild caught is a "smart" food vs. farm-raised, which is not) ... and we're going to have sweet potatoes tonight - the best option, nutritionally.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Saturday, which feels like a Sunday!! :becky:

Sure does!

-------------------------------

Working down my to-do list ... studying 1 hour - done; gym workout for 1 hour - done, did 13.66 miles on the bike. Think I need a shower now :bathbaby:

That time when you try to cook a healthy meal of steamed salmon parcels and veggies and don't put enough water in the bottom of the steamer. #burned #smokedbroccoli (eeeew!)

*sigh*

Hoping that leaving the steamer to soak overnight will enable me to save it.

Melissa- your NY sounds like a lot of fun and that tradition is so sweet! Where do you live? Totally jealous that you are close to a beach :D!
I'm in Sydney, Australia. We are so spoilt with so many beaches close by :) Before, the closest beach was about a 6-hour drive, and we'd have to make a long-weekend out of any beach trip. Love the fact that we can now just hop in the car on a sunny day and an hour later be in the water.

Happy Sunday that sure as heck feels like a Sunday and last day of Winter Break.
I made it through Xmas #2 and now I have to think about taking the rest of Christmas decorations down. ugh.... That won't be as bad as the tree, the ornaments-- 100's of them are the worst. I don't have too much to clean up, my family did most of it, before they left. I am doing my long IV (must remember to get electric blanket out of the closet!) so I don't know if I want to deal with much this morning. I guess I'll have to see.
It was just awesome seeing everyone. I still need to see my BFF one on one, but this was nice to chat movies/TV shows/music etc. I love watching the cousins all together too. They are growing up to be amazing kids.
My niece Juliet, will be on her way for softball scholarships when she graduates HS. But she also played varsity volleyball last year as a freshman, but was cut this year b/c a coach said she was "unreliable" b/c she was out the last 2 games from an injury and had to leave one game before all of the clean-up was done b/c she had to catch the bus for a softball game. After she got cut, she went to the coach to ask if she could just practice with the team and do stats b/c she was def. trying out again next year. Her principal found out and long story short, wrote a letter to my SIL saying what strong character she has. Talk about a Proud Mama moment for her!
I adore my nieces and nephews- all of them:)

So today- so not sure what I want to do... clean up? Not? Deal with it tomorrow? ugh....

Hope you all have a fab day!

Good Morning all! We traveled yesterday- this coming week is all about getting ready to begin my new job on January 11th. I was not able to maintain my weight while on vacation, however I did maintain my walking and ate more vegetables than I usually do! I am also going to buy a new laptop this week!

Kat! LOL about thinking it was Sunday and having that extra day. Its like waking up at 4am and realizing that you still have another hour to sleep. But then you can't get back to sleep.Mmmph.
I guess that wasn't a very good analogy hahah!!
I would never get anything done if I didn't have my to-do list. It is pretty pathetic that I even have to write down the things I do every day like scoop litter boxes and monitor/record my Lyme symptoms.
How did your friend with Lyme get through the holidays? I hope she held up ok. It is a rough time for the majority of people with chronic illness. Tell her that I hope she didn't run out of spoons :)
Oh nooooooo!! That is really rough that the new girl isn't taking the job :( I can't blame her but what a disappointment. I hope that it doesn't take as long to find someone else as it did to find her.

Nancy- whew! That must have been a relief that Rex and Luther got along better w/o having the cone get in the way. Literally.
Hope that the fam feels better and that you don't catch that cold. I see the sun today!! Too bad that the Real Feel is going to be 28*F! Yikes!!!!

Rae- Your salad in a jar sounds like a fab way to get that done. The worst part of salad is that it is so darn easy to ignore heads of lettuce.I gave up trying to be frugal and buy heads of romaine only to toss them when they turn brown. Buckets of spinach or spring mix is the way to go for me.
Much luck tyo you with the new WWs. My SIL is starting it on Monday, not that she really needs it but it looks like a good way to eat healthier.

Trudy- hope that you had a great day and didn't have to do much of anything once you got home.
Thanks for the Admin work you do here!

Kat- oh no!Broccoli can smell kinda bad as it is, but burned to the bottom of your pan? I hope that soaking helps.
Is farm vs wild caught salmon really that different nutritionally? Interesting... And that is one more reason why it is so darn hard to eat healthy on a tight budget. Even farm raised/on sale salmon is out of my league. How I would love to be able to buy organic/local sourced foods. Some day!

Melissa- *happy sighs* I love the ocean. I am in New Jersey, East Coast of the USA and about 2 hours (no traffic) from the Shore. I never made it down this past summer- too sick to make the trip- but I will be damned sure I get my toes in the water this summer. I hope you share lots of pics from your trip so I can live vicariously through you!

Good morning!! I just thought I'd pop in to let you guys know I'm back!!! :-) It was a doozy of a semester, but I can think clearly again and have a much easier load this semester. I probably won't be checking the Daily ooo's very much until summer, but I thought I'd stop in today and say hi!!

good morning! Well yesterday was pretty fun as my NJ Devils defeated the Dallas Stars in OT 3-2. We had a special pre-game Season ticket holder get together and they had a raffle for upgraded tickets to the lower level and I won them. How cool is that. I never win anything! So then behind us at the game were a group of British soccer fans. They had been drinking and we doing the soccer chant thing which was very inappropriate for the young fans that were near us. So during the intermission I got up the never to say something to them. They took it very well and for the rest of the game they were some of the loudest Devils cheering. I gave them a couple of these cute Devils charms we had gotten at the get together and they were thrilled and had me autograph them. They were too funny. But I was so pleased that they chanted in PG. I told them I was an old lady and gave them my age and they said I didn't look a day over 52 too funny. Luther had lots of walks and play time along with Rex. But everyone is still sick but I think they are getting better! I got the itinerary from my friend for our birding trip in AZ this April so that is exciting. Lots of humming birds I am hoping! Today is an autograph signing so going to that. I just am happy with the start to the New Year!

Chris so glad that the xMas 2 was a success! I loved it my sons got together with their cousins. It is fun to see them grow. Congrats to your niece! And I love I am seeing the sun! I had almost forgot what it is like! The cat and dogs are happy with it.

Kat congrats on working through your todo list! Enjoy Sunday!

Rae I have heard about salad jars. I think that is a great idea. I always just took a peanut butter sandwich.

Trudy hope you had a great day!

Hi to Melissa. I always love seeing your New Year's Celebrations as you all are first!

Hi Laurie congrats on new job starting. I thinking walking is the best!

Hi Sara!

Have a great day all!

Morning ladies... cold and frosty again this morning and I will be taking down the last of the Christmas Decorations today. Also cleaning my oven Uggh!! Well it cleans itself but I hate the smell and always have to have the exhaust fans going while its cleaning. Wish I could open some windows but brrrr!!! Its too cold! Humming bird feeder comes in overnight so it won't freeze and the poor little hummers are anxiously awaiting for it to be put out every morning.

Chris - Glad that you survived your Christmas #2! Sounds like a day to just slowly work on taking down your tree and trying to get some rest in also! Don't push yourself!!

Kat - Uggh burnt broccoli!! Hope you can rescue your pan!

Laurie - Hooray for the new laptop! Have fun on your first day of working at your new job and don't worry you will take off those extra Christmas pounds! You are an exercise rock star!!

Sara - Nice to see you pop in here and so glad that you are done your semester and that the next one will be easier for you!

Nancy - Congrats for winning the upgraded tickets!! How cool is that!! Lucky You!! I hope you get to see the hummingbirds, they are so cool to watch!

Melissa - You are very spoiled to have so many beautiful beaches nearby! I bet you are enjoying all of them!!

Rae - You are ahead of me for getting your decorations down, I will finish up today then clean up all the glitter and mess that goes along with it! I am also thinking of joining W.W. again I am a lifer and this new system looks like it might be right up my alley!!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone and do something you love today!!

Is farm vs wild caught salmon really that different nutritionally? Interesting... And that is one more reason why it is so darn hard to eat healthy on a tight budget. Even farm raised/on sale salmon is out of my league. How I would love to be able to buy organic/local sourced foods. Some day!

The farm-raised salmon is higher in fat - and since I have plenty of that to spare, I don't want to add any more. LOL

Well, no saving the bottom of the steamer pan. *sigh* At least the inserts (also metal) are still okay, and I think they will fit on top of one of my regular saucepans.

Good morning, ladies. Just popping in to say hi and will be back in a bit after I finish making brunch. Taz and I headed out early this morning for a hike along the water and it was an amazing sight of water, frost, greenery and fog. Such a peaceful time. We did run into a few other people and their dogs but most of the time it was just Taz and I. He got in a lot of swimming and running around. Just got back and am making a big breakfast now.

Trudy - join Kat and I on the WW program. I am officially starting tomorrow. I've been winding down over the weekend, eating healthier and less junk food, have tossed the last of the cookies and am going to put the rest of the chocolate in the fridge downstairs so it won't be so readily available in the upstairs fridge.

Chris - sounds like a fun time with the relatives. We still have a couple of post-Xmas visits to make with family & friends but I'm staying home today to enjoy my last day before work tomorrow. We'll finish our visiting next wkend.

I have to clean the kitchen, do some laundry, and then I can edit and scrap a bit this afternoon. I'll pop into the produce market later too so I can stock up on veggies/fruit for the week. I got some yogurt and berries on the way home from the hike this morning and will have that as a snack this afternoon. I still haven't meal planned yet for the week so will work on that tonight as we watch tv. Since it'll be the start of my return to WW and most importantly, the start of a new system, I need to be on top of this and have some foods/meals planned. Have a lovely afternoon, ladies!

Here's my first pic of the morning. It was so quiet and lovely.
