Tip: Installing brushes in Photoshop Elements

Scrappie IreneTips & Techniques

In Photoshop CS you can simply drag the .abr file of the brush set into the workspace and the brushes are installed.
But in Photoshop Elements you have to place the .abr file in a certain folder.

Go to the hard disk you installed the Photoshop Elements on. For me that’s C.
Go to Program Files (x86) and choose the Adobe folder.

In this Adobe folder you choose the Photoshop Elements version you use. So for example Photoshop Elements 11.
There you choose the folder Presets. On top you now see the folder Brushes.

Simply copy and paste the .abr file into this folder!

If you don’t want to install the .abr file into the program but want to use it, you can also install it for one session too.
Let me show you:

 Select the brush tool.

Then click on the right dropdown arrow in the brush menu. There you can click on Load Brushes.

Then you get another menu. There you can search for the folder with the brush file (.abr) you want to instal. When you found it, select it and click on Load.

Now it’s installed and ready for use:

As soon as you select another brush set or close the program, the .abr file will be removed from the program.
