There are numerous people here who are good photographers as well as scrapping.
Now I am wondering with which camera you are photographing, are you going for a small compact device or a solid SLR or the new hybrid devices (these are currently very popular due to the light weight)
I photograph with a Sony device alpha77II and I have a 70-400 mm lens for bird watching, the 18-250 mm as an all-round lens (vacation and also shoots that I do) a 50 mm portrait lens, a 90 mm macro lens and then I have another 70-300 mm but I almost never use it.

My camera is a Pentax KR, and I mostly use a 70-300 mm .
I also have a small compact camera

I sold off a bunch of my pro stuff (my Nikon d800, 70-200, 24-70 and a few other lenses which allowed me to buy a Fuji xT2 and Fuji X100F for street photography, also its so light I can carry it around my neck for a few pull-back shots while I shoot with my Nikon D500 when out shooting landscape, botany and wildlife. The mirrorless XT2 I haven't used much but have gotten a few zooms and primes for it so need to start playing with it more.

I have some primes, a macro and a few zooms. My most used lens is my 200-400 for shooting wildlife. Around the house I use a 50 mm a lot.

Is the 200-400 you use for the beautiful bird pictures ?

Thx for admiring my photos :)

Yes, I use my 200-400 lens on a cropped body (D500) so it gives me a focal range of 600 mm. What I like about this lens is that I can handhold it, many of the long range zooms require a tripod b/c of the weight. My sigma was much heavier than my nikon 200-400 and I ended up selling it. It had a range of 600 but it was just too heavy to handhold. I like to move around and not be constricted by a tripod. I will brace myself against something when possible (like a tree, railing, etc) rather than use a tripod.

To give you an idea of the range of the lens, this was shot today at the 600 mm end of the zoom at about 10 feet away.

I have a very old Canon Rebel DSLR. My cell phone camera has higher megapixels than it has. ;) I rarely take it out so I don't even remember what lenses I have. I keep thinking I should ask for a new one for Christmas or my b-day but then I wonder if it is worth it in the long run.

I just use my cell phone as well. My big splurge was upgrading to a Samsung S10 earlier this year, mostly for the camera. It has a "pro" mode that allows you to play with ISO, white balance, and shutter speed a bit, and that mode shoots in RAW as well, so I can practice editing RAW files a bit. One of these days I will get a big girl camera, lol!

Angie-I have a Samsung Galaxy 8 and it has some pretty good camera features. My DD got an S10 (I think!) simply for the camera too. She had an LG and the camera was terrible. She is so much happier with hers now.

That is why I keep flipping between thinking I want a new DSLR or replacing my cell phone eventually. It is 3 years old which is about 965,000 years-old in cell phone years. ;)
