OK, I'm piggybacking on my first post "What you doing for Christmas?".

If you're hosting or going someplace, what are you taking/making?

For one thing, I'm making my late husband's Sausage and Egg Casserole. It was very popular and I'm going to try to make it as good as he always did. I'm going to make 2 because I know there will be some casserole lovers there.

How about you???

It's summer here so MIL does cold roast chicken and pork and sometimes prawns/shrimp with a few salads like coleslaw and an asian fried noodle cabbage salad, but some of the extended fam is vegan so i'm adapting potato salad to take this time (i can't remember what i did last year). i think technically we usually have german potato salad with boiled eggs and bacon and so apart from the potato, that's about as vegan as it gets) - the plan is potato with celery, red/purple/Spanish onion, chopped baby spinach & parsley with some toasted pinenuts & capers as optional extras, and there's a vegan mayo my MIL buys so hopefully she has some of that spare from the vegan coleslaw b/c i forgot to buy it and i'm not braving the shops again tomorrow- nope i haven't tried it yet but the separates work for me so it should be ok (famous last words).

It's just the 2 of us this year, but we grilled the Christmas Day leg of lamb yesterday, I finished Greek Lemon Chicken Soup for Christmas Eve yesterday, Christmas ham is in the fridge.

Restaurant mama is open tomorrow :elf2:
The venison ragout is simmering - I'll make celeriac soup later and for dessert we'll have ice cream cake from the bakery ...
For vegetables we eat beans, chicory and an apple from the oven with cranberry sauce ....
My daughter-in-law is a vegetarian and for her I'm making a vegetable ragout: carrots, mushrooms and beans with vegetarian meatballs.
The fresh croquettes are ready ....

On Christmas Eve, we are going to my mom's and then to my brother-in-law's, and I am bringing cookies.
You get cookies!

Everyone gets cookies :D

Christmas Day everyone comes here and I am making appetizers and dips. Combo of super cheesy dishes and some vegan ones

Christmas dinner will be with 18 other Florida Friends. I am bringing maple roasted carrots made in my new convection oven with maple syrup that our son made. I'm also making Peruvian purple corn water and will bring vodka for any who choose to use it. The corn water is made from dried purple corn, pineapple, green apple, cloves, cinnamon sticks and lime juice &sugar. I first had it in a Peruvian restaurant in Arizona and have been making it ever since

I'm getting away easy this year. My son, and his FIL, love Pepperidge Farm Coconut Cake, so I'm taking three of them. I've mainly done the cooking and hosting of family gatherings through the years and I was more than happy to give over the reins to my DIL's family, after my husband passed and I moved back to this area. The Saturday after Christmas I'll be getting together with just my son, DIL, and grands for our family Christmas. We are then having Chinese take-out from the new Chinese place in town and it is incredible.

@AK_Tracy We are having a theme with dinner and its Chinese food. Christmas Eve, not day. Everyone is bringing something different but it. has to be Chinese food.

I love that. Years ago at one of yacht club meetings-everyone chose their favorite Chinese food from a menu then when the food was delivered it was all set out and we had a buffet....we all tasted things we hadn't eaten......It was so much fun...a fabulous memory.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

TAMALES are our custom dish. We make them together - thus a Tamalinda will be happening. This is throw back to our time living in Mex. & Honduras.
Due to hubster and me creating the Heritage albums, we are making Schwartzwalder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake) Ive always known my mother's side was German, but through our research for the project learned of the German roots- Black Forest region of my Dad's side! Imagine us finding Kirsch in the deep South. Ha! But we did!
We are also deep in Scotland/Ireland, so something from that group will come along to dinner. lol

Small but sweet gathering here. Just 5 of us. Making ham, macaroni and cheese, brussel sprouts with bacon, green beans for the one that doesn't like the sprouts; rolls and deviled eggs.

Christmas Eve we have a family party on hubby's side. I need to make breadsticks for that. On Christmas Day we are hosting a brunch for our kids and I will do al the prep for that. I will make a hashbrown breakfast casserole, a fruit salad, bacon, and then I cheated and picked up the orange juice and cinnamon rolls at the market.

Love your idea to make German food. I am of German heritage and lived there for 3 years in the 70's (military hubby) I will have to get out my German cookbooks...thanks for the inspiration. Merry Christmas.
