Web Graphic Help Anyone?

I work on the website for our organization. I have a logo. It was originally created in Fireworks, but I have no clue how to work that. So I've been editing in PS and PSE. It's worked fine until now. Now they want the graphic to be put on the website in the header. Which means I need to resize the image to fit. Not really that much of a problem. Resized the image to the right size. Got it to 72 resolution for the web. Looked fine in terms of just the image on the page. However, the background on the image is white. The background on the header is a blue gradient. I can recreate the blue gradient no problemo. But to get the white background separated from the rest of the image and it's sort of shadow is giving me fits. It looks terrible when I try to do that. Does anyone have any advice they can give me?

Oh nevermind. I figured it out. It was the way I got it to 72 resolution that messed me up. I got it looking a whole lot better now!! :-) Don't you love it when you answer your own question?

yay Sara! The other thing that I don't know if it would work but might...could you delete/erase the white and save it as a png? That was the gradient would still show through.

I think it ended up really good in the long run. It was png originally, but it was because I resampled instead of doing "Save for Web" and it ended up so rough (pixel-y) and ugly looking. When I "saved for web" it was smooth enough that I could erase the white and it still looked good.
