Using AI in scrapbooking/art journaling

Hi everyone,

I am kind of piggy-backing on the other question we had recently about the AI. I am rather cautious about it, but I still would like to explore it more, especially in the arts area. Do you use and/or recommend any programs for playing with AI for images (preferably free or low-cost)? Have you came across any useful tutorials on using AI?

Also, I've seen that Photoshop Elements 2026 has more AI capabilities. Has anyone experimented with it yet?
 
I’m not an expert at all but here are some ideas for free tools — there are always some sort of limitations (such as how much free use you get in a period of time) but you’ll want to start playing with something free. Learning how to “prompt” is as much of an art as learning to use Photoshop/Elements or learning to draw, so be patient and experiment. Your best bet is to search YouTube once you decide which tools you want to play with hot as you are experimenting) because not all generators have the same prompting language, although they are usually similar. And you can also search for “best AI art generator for creating ……” (fill in the blank).

I use Midjourney and Artistly, both of which do not have free versions. I haven’t used free AI in some time, so things may have changed, but this list should help you get started. Have fun - it’s addicting!

Dream AI by Wombo. Super easy to use, fast results, and perfect if you love bold, fantasy-style art like landscapes and dreamy scenes.

Bing Image Creator / Microsoft Copilot. Powered by DALL-E! Great for creating realistic art, detailed scenes, and concepts. You only get a limited number of prompts per day.

Canva AI Image Generator, Perfect if you already use Canva! Super easy to add AI art straight into your designs, social posts, or planners. Limited free credits unless you upgrade to paid Canva

NightCafe Studio. Ideal for experimenting! Lots of style choices and you get free credits every day to play with. Free images sometimes have a small watermark.

If you want fast & pretty art — go for Dream AI or Canva AI.
For soft ideas and exploring for personal use — try Bing Image Creator.
If you just want to experiment and have fun, try NightCafe

As to PSE, I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to create much art from scratch using its AI - it’s mostly focused on photo editing and enhancing.
 
I use 2 that are free - piclumen and leonardo ai - each has a paid version but the free version is pretty generous as to how many prompts you get a day
piclumen allows you to delete bad images and it keeps them for a month. leonardo there is no deleting but it keeps them indefinitely

you do need to watch for errors such as too many fingers/ feet

above mentioned bing - i have found it too be not very good but havent used it in a while
 
I've played around a little with Adobe Firefly. The was a specialized alpha I wanted for a layout that I couldn't find anywhere and did create what I wanted with that. how you word things definitely makes a difference. zanthia's right count body parts :floorlaugh: as far as the AI in Photoshop I would say it's ok, but not great yet. I don't think generative erase is quite as wonderful yet as the demos show, but it works well in some cases. I'm not big into creating with AI, I can tell you that it's obvious that Adobe Firefly has never "watched" a minion movie.:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
