I'm so sorry Evelyn. Why do people do this and just leave??? We had a brick mailbox built a few years ago and somebody did the same thing. Broke it right in the middle. I'm dumbfounded.So, I'm going out to throw some trash away and water my flowers when I see someone has hit my wrought iron mailbox post so hard they broke some of the wrong iron pieces off. The pole was pushed so my mailbox is facing at an angle. Somebody had to know they hit it but just drove off and didn't say anything. These mailboxes sell for $300-$400 and up. It upsets me that somebody wasn't honest about hitting it. It was so pretty with trailing vines, leaves and acorns.
That is so terrible, Cheryl! I'm sorry that happened to you! Years ago a teenager, who was dating one of our exchange students, hit our garage door and dented it in. I was asleep and didn't hear it. They left on their field trip and never mentioned it. I had to call to ask them about it. His insurance paid to fix it. If someone hits someone's property (not car) with their vehicle, their insurance will pay to fix it and there is no deductible. I don't know why people are just not honest.
Thank you so much. My neighbor said she heard a metal on metal noise when the trash truck came through so we think they hit it. I contacted the trash company and am prthey do the right thing. Those Mailbox and posts are expensive, I will keep you posted when I hear from the trash company.lSome people....GRRRRRR

I don't get it either, Evelyn. This was a big tall brick and mortar mailbox. When we built our new house, we paid the contractor extra to build that very beautiful mailbox. Whoever hit it did some major damage to their car. It cut the mailbox right in half in the middle. i was just sick! I'm glad you got your door fixed, but we had no way of knowing who hit our mailbox.
I'm so sorry that your beautiful mailbox was destroyed. It is terrible that people are not honest. I contacted the trash company but they said they have dash cams and their truck did not hit it. I don't understand how people just do that much damage and to on their merry way. At least the trash trucks have dash cams on them now. I didn't think about their big trucks. You'll probably never know who did it.
Thank you so much! We have come to the acceptance that we won't know who hit our mailbox. We have a few ideas on how to make it look a bit better cosmetically.Some people....GRRRRRR
