I just uploaded a siggy for myself here at Oscraps for the first time in, oh, 8 years.:cool:. I used to host a siggy challenge at another site many years ago, so I don't know how I overlooked it here. I know almost everyone here has a siggy...how often do you change yours out?

I change mine whenever the spirit moves me. I try to keep mine kind of seasonal. I love changing mine out.

I like to change my siggy out 2-3 times a year... usually when season's change or a special event is happening. I go ahead and add mine to the OS gallery then load it into my siggy in my profile.

I haven't thought about making a new one yet, maybe it's time to change.

Well, I don't really fancy siggies. I think it's from the time when I was on dial-up, and it was such an annoying thing to wait for all images to load.

That's a good point, Eva. I've been in forums where some siggies were HUGE, and then when you add in blinkies and achievement badges or whatever, it took forever to see the actual discussions.

I never change mine and don't like big ones as they seem distracting in the forums. But I'm not a Cheery O or on any CT.

I used to have one on the old forum but it's gone missing here...and was a very old one, but I'm never in the mood for making siggies

I too find that siggies can get in the way of the conversation... but not having one when so many do makes me feel like creating one for myself... I've found that I struggle with them, though, so usually just slap a premade cluster or two and call it my new siggie...

I don't have a siggie. I've always thought about it but....never got around to making one. What (if any) are the parameters, size or anything else I should consider when making a siggie?

Different forums can have different guidelines; I don't think we ever set any specific rules here at Oscraps. In general, your finished product shouldn't be wider than about 600px wide by 200-300px tall at 72 dpi. Mine is 500 x 167, for example. Otherwise they just take over your posts, in my opinion. I always start as if I were making a regular layout and then crop it down to the right size during the Save For Web feature (I use PSE). Some forums let you upload your siggy right from your computer but in this one, you need to upload the image to a hosting site like imgr or flickr; you could also use the gallery here as long as you aren't violating any gallery rules.

Does that tell you what you need to know? I'm not sure if I gave you enough information or too much, lol.

Siggies...UGH!...I'm not in love with them...but I always had one over in other forums I am a part of...I don't have one here...haven't really thought about it either...They never seem to look very good compared to others : IE : too small, too big, can't see,too faded...ugh!...the list goes on...But a challenge for one might get the rest of us who either don't think about or just don't bother...LOL...That seems like the only time I ever create one...for a challenge... ;)...

Love your new one Angie! I made mine for the Christmas holidays...and used something with a heart so that I could push it through Valentine's Day. Well, guess what, that has come and gone. LOL Anyway, I think that I need a new one (since it was 80 today here)! Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you so much. Great info. I'll put making a siggie on my to do list for a day that I need a reason to avoid housework. ;)
