To everyone who's ever gotten a kit thinking it'd be perfect... and then got stuck scrapping with it... share your story... here is mine...

I've done quite a lot of AJ-type scrapping recently and wanted to scrap something practical today, so this looked like it was going to be a quick and easy couple of pages. Once that was out of the way, I was planning to get some other scrapping done too. Little did I know... All in all, this two-pager took me about 6 hours to scrap. I started with Anna's newsletter freebie from a couple of months back, though only the base masks and some scribbles of the original template remain. While selecting and arranging the photos, I took a stroll down the memory lane (never mind that this was just a few months ago) and did more reminiscing than scrapping... and then I got stuck embellishing. Like totally stuck... didn't know where to go from there...

So, I grabbed my AirPods and went on a wild adventure chasing a serial killer all the while playing with the flowers and the foliage. Initially, I'd been drawn to this kit because of its colors which I thought would go well with the photos taken on a black beach. Well, the papers did, but the greenery in the photos clashed with the foliage in the kit and the seven or so different clusters I built just didn't look right... I even considered scrapping the whole thing (pun intended) and starting all over... but then thought better of it. I am a resourceful scrapper after all. Pulling colors from the photos, I started recoloring elements and playing with the blending modes to preserve their original texture...

...and... lost track of time... with hubby away on business and the son upstairs doing his teenage things... unable to walk properly after a recent foot surgery, I sat there like in a trance, layering and clustering, arranging and placing, blending and masking... I didn't manage to get much done today... But my son made delicious burgers for dinner, and I spent a delightful Sunday, doing what I love - scrapping and listening to a book. Definitely cheaper than therapy...

Well I think your hard work paid off. I love your description about chasing serial killers while playing with flowers! I love the different areas. The page in itself is an adventure, taking the viewer to different spots. Great job!

Oh, thank you... I really had fun making it... might not have been the most efficient scrapping session, but I felt like I totally needed this.

Oh Olga, I can just picture you listening to your podcast about chasing serial killers and playing with the flowers! That is so hysterical, would have loved to have seen your facial expressions during that time!! lol! :giggle4: Despite all the obstacles your double page turned out beautifully! Absolutely adore how wonderfully everything blends together so beautifully! :bowdown3::beatingheart:

I often get 'stuck' when scrapping, and I find that when I get to that point I just save it in my "Pages In Progress" folder and either start a different one or, less commonly, go and do some housework! I do tend to 'overthink' things and can easily (and joyfully) sit here in my room and scrap for hours on end, trying out different techniques etc. but when I get to that 'getting frustrated' point where it's just not working, then it's time to just leave it and go do something else. I can easily spend a LOT of hours on a layout.

On the other hand, many times I have been caught out by missing a scrapping deadline so at those times I have to scrap a page quickly and you know, I get it done because I tend to just 'do it' without actually 'thinking' about it. :giggle4: In some cases these layouts will only take around 30 - 40 minutes to do. So maybe my motto would be to just stop using my 'left brain' and just let my 'right brain' get it done!

I HAS happened to me too, and a few of those layouts turned out great and I love them... but mostly, such crapping feels hollow to me... it seems my left brain refuses to relinquish control...

Well, you know I love your layout...I was happy to include it in tonight's Oscraps newsletter!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE double pagers...they (selfishly :giggle4:) save me a lot of time while doing the layout portion of the newsletter, but I also think that they are such a fun and different layout compared to your typical square one! I really like it when people include the "all in one/together" version of their 2-pagers :heartpumplove:

I must ask, what podcast/book were you listening to? I am a HUGE fan of My Favorite Murder and a few other podcasts about solving those horrific crimes, but I am ashamed to say that it has been MONTHS since I have listened to any! My ear buds were "murdered" (they just literally died of age), and I finally did buy myself some snazzy new ones and got them delivered two weeks ago, but I keep forgetting to bring them with me in the car...lol I need to just charge them up again right now, and put them next to my purse so I do not forget to bring them :couchhide:

Oh, thank you! I do love two-pagers too.

It was one of the episodes of the Sherlock and Co podcast. I've just looked up My Favorite Murder on Spotify - a true crime comedy podcast??? Episode 468??? Is that the one you are talking about?
