September Art Journaling Challenge Week 4 {COMMITMENT}

Yes, it is here, the last challenge for September! If you completed all four of them, you get a Gold Star in Commitment. :wehaveawinner:
Although while I say that tongue in cheek, I am serious about giving yourself recognition for committing to a task or goal, however small it might seem. As with so many other things in life, the more we say we are going to do something, commit to it and succeed, the better chances are that we continue to do that in the future. Simply accomplishing a task increases our ability to do it again. Don't take my word for it, the American Psychological Association has research on it: The Science of Goal Setting.
As we set our goals, we often say them out loud or share the goal with friends, family, or others IRL or online. For me, when I state a goal, it becomes firmer in my mind and I have a greater sense of accountability to myself to accomplish it. It is the same psychology when you go to a group such as Weight Watchers. Showing up gives you better chances at staying committed to your goal.

For our wrap-up, think about the previous three weeks of this challenge. As always, if you didn't do any or all of the previous challenges, no worries! All you have to do is consider how you would have approached the topic of commitment over the course of time. How did you accomplish each week's challenge? Did you commit to doing each week at the beginning of the month? Were there any weeks that you didn't want to do one of the challenges? How did you overcome that feeling, if you did? Self-talk or comments to someone else? Did you decide that it was not a priority to finish a challenge? That is totally acceptable, too!

There is no right or wrong way to approach this thought experiment. It's just one method to consider the factors in making a commitment.

After you thought about it, go ahead and scrap a page, hopefully incorporating some of the ideas that ran through your mind as you contemplated this.

You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you use the template, we would love it if you post incrementally: post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and so on until the finished page in the fourth week.

Again—the template is NEVER a requirement, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Challenge Rules:
  • You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on September 30 to complete your pages for this challenge.
  • To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used, whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  • You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  • You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  • Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)
Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:
  • Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post, click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  • This will open your gallery; simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Your linked layout is now in your post; the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.
Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

We look forward to seeing your art journaling pages!

I always love and dread this week. I love the wrap up and how Chris has us look back and put it all together or continue the move forward. Usually its a wonderful wrap it up and see what you learned moment for me. I also dread it because its the end and the words/emotions/themes you ladies all come up with are so amazing I'm not always ready for them to end. I believe its been about 17 months I have been here and at least 16 months of AJ layouts. Holy cow has it really been that many? Times four? whew that's a lot of feeling and work. I look back at the beginning (April '24) and look at those layouts and think man they are bad!!! :giggle4: But if I look at the heart, yeah, they were timid and at times over explained but oh the process of working through those topics. I never thought I would still be here, still working AJ LO and seeing progress. Darn it, you were all correct in telling me I could do it. the support, encouragement and love here is beyond words. I have loved seeing it grow too, with others joining in and sharing. I never know what will happen each week but I know it will be perfect for what needs to be drug out of me and onto paper so I can work through it. I'm not leaving :floorlaugh: Re-reading that sounds like farewell but its NOT. I just started my AJ comment and like AJ it went crazy and flowed out. All that to say thank you!

Thank you Sonja, Susie, Cheryl, Chris and Vicky! Without you ladies leading us, AJ wouldn't be what it is and I am forever thankful I stumbled across the AJ link and gave it a try.

Off to ponder what I want to do and then to see what actually happens.

That might be more encouraging to us than you meant, Tracy! Without everyone participating, we would probably stop!
