My big girl had knee surgery (again) on Wednesday. Two years ago, she had a torn CCL and had surgery to remove the ligament and reset the knee. The knee was held in place with plates and screws. Over the last few months, she developed an infection in the hardware and had to have all of the metal parts removed. So she has a big incision along her leg and needs to be on controlled leash walking when she needs to go out.
When my other dog whined at 2 am, I was hopingthat Jaida would stay asleep. No such luck. I threw on a coat and slippers and grabbed her leash. Unfortunately, she wanted to go to the backyard, which I was not about to do. (My DH spoils her and lets her walk wherever she wants to go when he takes her out )My lawn is covered with snow and ice, it is pitch dark, and I was wearing slippers and not my glasses. Tell me that wasn't a recipe for several potential disasters!

Whisky does her business and is waiting at the front door, and Jaida is standing stock-still and refusing to move. She is looking towards the path to the backyard and grunting at me. Sheesh, it was a battle of wills and if I wasn't freezing my butt off, she might have won.

Oh, I can commiserate... as for what is worse than having to let your dog outside at 2am - well, knowing you should have done it at 1:59am and that one extra minute in bed means you now have two flights of stairs and the hall to wipe, disinfect and mop... all because your teenage son had left a half-eaten plate of baked beans on the bedside table for the stupid dog to gobble it up.

My horror story is that those beans meant our dog had digestion issues for more than two weeks, despite the antibiotics and what have you... I couldn't leave the house all this time because she needed to be let out every couple of hours or so... at night she slept in my room with a bell attached to her collar - the moment she moved, I'd jump out of bed and take her out into the garden - and I wasn't always quick enough...yikes... and naturally, hubby was travelling on business, and the two younger ones were being toddlers... well, in other words, life at its best!

Andie decided to whine at 4:00 a couple of night's ago. Kind of my fault. It was the night that I went to bed at 7 so that was a pretty early last time out for the night. Good news was that Brian answered her before I did! Points for Brian!

I was actually going to go with my nighttime experience being a dog wretching on the bed that they share with us. And couldn't get her down fast enough. But Olga, I think you have me beat! And I think you should just keep the title on this one!

Poor dogs, poor dog moms! Santa lets his dogs sleep in the stable with the reindeer when they steal too many cookies...
The only thing that helps is to put on a red nose and go into the garden at night
