Tell me, did you like that movie? Did you find it difficult to pay attention?

I recorded it last week. I'm halfway the movie. It really is not my genre, movies 'back in time'. I'm still not sure what to think about that movie.
It's weird, but I can't stop watching. I want to finish the movie.

I haven't see the movie, but I really love love love the book (Patrick Süskind).... and that's why I don't want to see the movie. I am afraid of being disappointed..

Good choice Timounette!
I also don't like watching a movie after reading the book. The other way around is oke for me, first the movie, than the book.

I, too, loved the book so haven't wanted to "spoil" it by watching the movie - that, and because we never, ever go to the movies as it's just too pricy.

I took a literature class in college called "Gothic and Grotesque" and the book was in it. One of my favorite classes ever. Such a crazy book, but so well written! I had no clue that it was made into a movie. I don't know that I would want to see it either.

Okay, I just ordered the book at the library! Let´s see if I can handle the story without the pictures!!

Now I'm tempted. Hopefully it's a Netflix one cause I too am one of those ..You expect me to pay WHAT in movie theaters???

It was on tv here last week. I taped it.
The movie was in the theaters in 2006. At least that's what I can find about it on the internet.

So what does everyone have to pay in their local cinemas?

We've just had an amazing multiplex open up by me - 14 screens, mostly 3D (which is just rubbish most of the time), comfy seats, easy car parking (but at £2.50 per hour, this soon mounts up) BUT all this comes at a price....an adult evening 3D ticket costs £20.30, that's $31 before the popcorn and drink.

And when you add in the cost of babysitting, which would easily add another £25 to the bill, going to the cinema is something we no longer do.

The cinema in NL where I like to go:
Kids movies €7,50 ($9,32)
Normal movies €8 /€9 ($10,66 /$11,99)
3D €10 ($13,32)
Prices acording to my converter.

Ours are about $13.00 for an adult for 3D.

(Yvon - you may need to check your converter...it should be a decimal point I think, instead of a comma. Otherwise, those are some DARN expensive movie tickets!!) :-)

We write the , in money ammounts in the NL LOL
Didn't realise it would be different in other countries.

We write a piont at 'thousands'. Example €1.000,00 1 thousand euros.

WOw Selena that's crazy prices!!

NOw I'm really curious about this book and / or movie but it sounds like something that would totally cause me anxiety. There have been a lot of good adjectives in this thread to describe it!

Sounds very interesting but I will check Netflix I think. I have a debit card that collects points for the Cineplex Theatres and we get free admission to the theatre with that so we only go to the movies when we have enough points, we also get a discount on goodies with our card. Love it!!

Sooo interesting! I never knew that it was different elsewhere! Tells you how much I travel. We do it completely opposite here. (Like everything else I suppose! LOL)

Like driving on the wrong side of the road LOL
:car:

Aside from the one movie I saw over the summer for free (if you bundle internet, TV and land line phone from the cable co, we can get 2 free movie tix on Tuesdays), I can't tell you the last time I paid to go to the movies. years and years.

That book sounds really cool, I'll have to check it out from the library too. Sara- that course sound fab!! I should have gone for Library Science instead of Education...

Chris - This was when I was an English major. Read: Perfume, The Monk, Dracula, Frankenstein, Rebecca, and the Painted Bird. I think that was everything we read. Dracula and Frankenstein are two favorites of mine too. I hate how they've been twisted into such awful movies.

At our book fair this week, there was a young adult book that I picked up just for me...it's a prequel to Frankenstein and the quotation on the back said, "There's a passion in you that scares me." oooo. I knew I had to have it. :-)

Ah, now Rebecca is one of my all time favourite novels. No matter how many times I read it, knowing the ending, I'm still chilled by it! And the movie was great too.

well I´m halfway through the book,
just 1 girl murdered so far, but lots of dead people. love the way it´s written but
it is hard to imagine this as a movie. (glad there is no smell tv yet!!)
I have not read the last page yet, that's somethingI do a lot, so am going to read it in the right order.

finished!!

Yeah, it´s a good read, lots of long descriptive sentences but not in a bad way, it makes you want to read it. a strange and fascinating story .

That's what my friend told me as well. She wanted to keep reading!
Now I HAVE to finish the movie. Because I want to read the book as well LOL
