NSBR: Turtles??

clarabear

always chatty at the O!!
So...apparently we now have a pet turtle. My husband took my son hunting and they didn't come home with meat but instead a stupid turtle. Does anyone know how to care for a turtle?? Also, I heard that they can carry salmonella...is there any way to decrease the risk of that?

Try the local pet stores and ask if they have a reptile specialist. We found a great one at the pet store by our house, despite it being a chain with a bad rep. This guy was great. Some turtles need more water than others and some need different kids of lettuce and cage liner. We asked about turtles a lot when we were looking at lizards too. Take a picture so they can try and identify what kind it is.

have you got a pond or a large tank ?
we used to have a turtle in the pond outside ..do watch out though they've got a very nasty bite and won't let go as our dog can testify , it was drinking out of the pond and the turtle got it's tongue!!

turtles are carnivores and love cooked meat also fruit and veg.
make sure you wash your hands after handling the beast.

Hey Clara, you have to take a pic for us!

We once had a turtle when I was a child. I think it ate salad and drank a lot of water. And we also had a terrarium where it stayed while it was cold outside. But I guess it depends on what kind of turtle it is.

I guess your son must be excited about it!
