Love my O Family!
CHEERY O
Welcome to Week 3 of our November Art Journaling Theme - SAVOR

Savoring life means intentionally focusing on and prolonging positive experiences to boost happiness and well-being. It involves using techniques like mindfulness to fully appreciate moments, whether they are past, present, or future. Examples include mindfully enjoying a cup of coffee, reliving happy memories, or feeling hopeful about future events.

Savoring life as a Christian involves actively focusing on God's presence and goodness, both in moments of service and quiet reflection. This includes practicing gratitude for creation, slowing down to be present, and finding joy in everyday things, while also acknowledging and processing life's difficulties with faith. Ultimately, it's about shifting focus from a list of duties to delighting in God Himself, who is found in both the sacred and the mundane.

Types of savoring
  • Past: Looking back on positive memories, like a happy vacation or a special event.
  • Present: Fully appreciating a positive experience as it happens, such as enjoying the taste of food or the warmth of the sun.
  • Future: Anticipating positive upcoming events with hope, like looking forward to a holiday or a friend's visit.
How to practice savoring
  • Slow down: Give yourself permission to not rush through a moment, like a meal or a walk. Intentionally pause to be present in each moment rather than rushing through life's activities.
  • Use all your senses: Notice the sights, smells, sounds, and textures of an experience to fully immerse yourself in it.
  • Acknowledge God in creation: Appreciate the beauty of the world as a gift from God, whether it's a stunning sunrise, a blooming flower, or a good meal.
  • Be mindful: Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings, and allow yourself to feel glad and joyous. Find joy in the present by trusting God's provision, rather than constantly striving for more.
  • Express gratitude: Intentionally focus on the good things in your life to amplify positive emotions. Make a habit of giving thanks for the blessings around you, which can help you notice them throughout the day.
  • Share the experience: Talk about positive moments with others to extend the joy. Remember the hope of eternity in God's family, which provides a source of thanks even during trials.
Focus on your relationship with God
  • Delight in God's presence: See your relationship with God as more than just a set of tasks, but as a person to be loved and enjoyed.
  • Pray and listen: Engage in prayer to connect with God and ask for His help in seeing and appreciating Him in all things.
  • Take every thought captive: Consciously choose not to let worries about the future steal the joy of the present moment.
  • Balance serving and savoring: Recognize that enjoying God's presence should precede and happen alongside service for Him.

That's a lot of information! But I hope it gives you something to think about as you consider your pages for this week. Here is my page and I'm looking forward to seeing what inspires your page!

You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you use the template, we would love it if you post incrementally: post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and so on until the finished page in the fourth week.

Again—the template is NEVER a requirement, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Challenge Rules:
  • You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on November 30 to complete your pages for this challenge.
  • To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  • You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  • You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  • Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)
Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:
  • Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post, click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  • This will open your gallery; simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Your linked layout is now in your post; the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.
Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

We look forward to seeing your art journaling pages!
