My Life Story with Vicki Robinson

Recently I asked Husband to pull down "several" boxes of memorabilia we have moved from house to house over the last four decades. I'm sure you can imagine the look of dread on his face! It's fair to say he was not pleased! LOL!

It turns out there was WAY more "stuff" more than I remembered! I've been sifting through and sorting everything and it made me wonder:

Am I alone? Do you all have boxes of stuff with your own life memories? And are you going to do something with it all?? Tell me, please — I really do want to know!

And do you want to know what I am doing with MY stuff?

I used to be a keeper of every piece of memorabilia. But I seemed to have backed off of that in recent years. I don't know if it's because I just do less fun stuff or I came to realize I didn't do anything with said memorabilia, so why keep it.

Oh my yes! I've somehow always been the keeper of things, too. Especially pictures. A few years ago, I started going through a lot of them and giving my girls some of their personal pictures (not all of them) but I also gave them other personal things that I thought they'd enjoy now that they were adults.

I had already given them their personal Christmas tree ornaments that we had collected for them over the years. They loved getting those most of all, I think and they love getting them out and hanging them on their own trees now.

We recently moved and I vowed to get rid of a lot of stuff, but I don't think I made much of a dent.

I've also handed down what my girls "want." :) However, there have been a few things I couldn't give away until I'm gone! Those paintings, artwork and keepsakes from their early years. I told my younger daughter, who has a one year old, I would give hers up when Edison starts to do art work so they can hang his & hers side-by-side, at different ages. She was so excited. My oldest daughter just asked about the American Doll collection. She will have those under her Christmas tree this year! :)I'm considering selling my home and moving (who knows where) so I'm sure they will be getting more!

Ummm. Well, my family has been saying for years that we need to clean out out attic. It is always "too cold" or "too hot" up there for them and I actually am able to keep my small areas relatively tidy.
If we end up doing this, I will be sure to report back what we *do* with all the crap. I mean memorabilia!

Sometimes I think of getting into hybrid scrapping. If that ever happens, then I might try scrapping some of that memorabilia. Otherwise, probably not.

I have photos, a few items my sons made as children, and a few special-to-me greeting cards, but not much else. I'm quite a minimalist, and have moved so much, that I haven't kept a lot of memorabilia. ♥

I just found all these old class pictures! So odd that so many, many years [many, MANY] later I can still remember some of these classmate's names!

Do you still have old class potos?

Yes, somewhere they are lurking. I too can remember most of my classmates names. I haven't seen any of them since I had to change schools in 1962!

When I was hybrid scrapping, I made an album about my childhood (from my birth untill my 12th) with every item that my Mum saved for me. There are small notes from the pediatrician, vaccination forms, small books she used to read for me, school pictures, report cards, even my swimming diploma!

I love old photos. The old class photos are fantastic.
I scrap some of the photos. I have lots of albums in the garage with photos and notes from when our kids were small. My plan for the artwork is to scan it all and make each kid a book.

Yes, I still have some of my old school photos. I remember names too. I belong to several FB pages where my former classmates still post. ♥

I'm so glad so many of you have at least some photos to scrap.

Sadly, I have very few memories of my Dad's parents, mostly because we lived overseas for most of my childhood. Going through my photos though, I did find this very special photo of my Grandfather, which was probably taken towards the end of 1955. Seeing the photo brought back memories I really wanted to capture for my family. Do you have stories to share like this?
