If you visit Charleston in the summer

We had a fantastic time at our family reunion! We then spent four days in Charleston. It is really beautiful there but it was also VERY HOT! I had pictured us walking around to all of these beautiful places I had looked up online. The great news is that we did get to see those places in the air-conditioned tour bus that we took! I would highly recommend a tour of the city if you are going in the very hot summer season. Our tour guide was amazing and we learned so much about the city. I even got interested in Eliza Pickney who was 17 and became wealthy making and selling indigo dye. There is a book about her called "Indigo Girl" which I am now listening to. We also took a boat tour which was also amazing!
 
Sounds like a wonderful trip, Evelyn. I love Charleston and have been there many, many times, but not in the heat of summer. :) Another wonderful place, if you haven't already been, that reminds me a bit of Charleston, is Savannah, Georgia. It's an incredible place to visit. We used to live in GA so I've been to Savannah many, many, many times.

Thank you so much, Betty Jo! That sound like another wonderful place to visit! We lived in Augusta but only for a few weeks while my husband was in the military. It was very nice there. Where did you live in Georgia?

We lived in Waynesboro, GA, right near Augusta. We served with a mission organization, Operation Mobilization, and they had a huge book warehouse in Waynesboro. We traveled many times to the port of Charleston, from there, to ship both educational and Christian books to other countries. My parents and grandparents were all from Georgia, and my oldest son now lives in Georgia.

We have been to Charleston in winter and summer. It’s more enjoyable in summer but it’s busier. We have been to Savanah in summer also. They are both Beautiful areas… go for it and visit both!
 
It sounds like you guys had an awesome time :heartpumplove: I have never been to Charleston, but I have been to Savannah! We went on a Girl Scout trip when my youngest was in 7th grade...it was gorgeous, but also very HOT!! lol We did a tour bus there, it was fun! :beatingheart:

Tour buses are awesome! I told my husband to be sure to sit on the right side of the bus so I could take photos easier. Most of the photos came out great even though they were through the bus windows. A few of them had reflections.
 
We frequently take a week in Hillton Head with our timeshare, and I love visiting both Charleston and Savannah. Strolling thorugh the squares through Savannah is just so special, I could walk miles. But not in July! It's been a hot summer in the southeast and I think I'd just scuttle from one air conditioner to the next in Charleston at the moment!

I love Hilton Head. My late husband and I used to go there often. A friend of ours had a timeshare there and he couldn't go very often, so he would let us stay there. It was such fun getting up early and being only a short walk from the beach.
 
I was born and raised in Charleston! I lived there until 1988. I miss it alot but it hot!! I have been told the food in the downtown area is a culinary delight. I don't get back much. Parents and brothers are gone from Charleston.

Ah Evelyn! Yes, we spent our anniversary in Chas'ton a few years back. TOOOO hot. I got overheated= red faced for hours. We went to the market, the Fort, took the boat and saw the dolphins dance4 and tried to walk a few of the streets but didn't get far. I have the book you mentioned ; Indigo Girl. I use it when I teach Indigo Shibori classes. Quite a story!

It was beautiful but hot so we sure loved touring with a tour bus and then a boat tour! It's wonderful that you get to visit both Savannah and Charleston!

Oh, Amanda! I know you loved your visit there even if it was hot. We saw some dolphins but they were too fast for me to take photos from the boat. My cousin sent me some from her visit there. "Indigo Girl" is so interesting. It's great that you can use it in the classes you teach!
