How do you organize your non-digital pics?

I have tons and tons of pics from before digital cameras that I am getting ready to tackle. This includes prints, negatives and slides. I am trying to come up with a good strategy for organizing them, along with my back-up CDs of pics. Does anyone have a system that would like to share? Or some good tips? Thanks!!

Yep...I have this big metal looking thing in my kitchen I throw them in. I think it is called a trash can. No really, I hate dealing with pictures and either get them scanned or get rid of them. No help from me sorry. Before that I kept pics in the boxes that are always on sale at Michaels and used the dividers they provided.
A lot of help I am, huh??

i need to do that myself. sorry i'm not much help either. my current strategy is open clear rubbermaid container and toss photos on top...sit on lid to close...get hubby to put back on top shelf of closet because its too heavy to lift.

I literally have them in shoE boxes. sorry not much help either!!!

I bought photo boxes for my photos and sorted them by years. Then bought negative sleeves and put them in the sleeves. I am still working on getting them into their albums :)

Good Luck with your project!

I started sorting by person (sort of). Pics of me, pics of my brother, pics of my mom. Pics of my dad's family, pics of my mom's family, pics of friends. Then, with the ones I've gotten to, I've organized by year or age range. That way I can find what I'm looking for when I go to make a page and want to scan in a pic or if I ever get around to making my second heritage album...I can find them easily. And I have some photo boxes and two of the big photo boxes from Creative Memories. Which are nice because the lid has a big pocket that holds 8 x 10s.

Sorry, I'm not much help. I'm the toss them in a shoe box kind of person.

BUT, after years of not seeing these pictures whilst we lived abroad, I've been routling through them and would really like to get them scanned or such. So if anyone can recommend a good machine for this, I've be very grateful. The last time I scanned stuff so years ago, the quality was simply appalling and unusable. I've tried taking photos of my photos, but that's not really working either.

I can't even think about it! I have photos of the kids in their albums, but I'm a year behind. It is hard with twins ... a lot of their early photos are with both of them, and I hate to make doubles. Blah.

Anyway, before that, I have some in albums (of Eric and I) and many stuck in various rubbermaid boxes.

Love this idea! Thanks!

This thread actually has made me feel loads better. Nice to know that I'm not the only one whose pre-digi pics are a mess!
