Has anyone ever taken any genealogy classes?

Hey ladies. I’m thinking about taking some genealogy classes. What do you suggest?

I haven't but I have taught several. I also taught a series on Scrapbook Genealogy where I taught proper research alongside scrapbooking it. If anyone is interested I can dust them off and update the lessons. I am considered a "professional genealogist" but think that's really a misnomer. You are only a professional if you take money and I do not.

@LSlycord I think you know that I've taken lots of them. There are some good ones free online. The Allen County Public Library (where I went last week) has a website: https://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy. They do talks each month and put them on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8AE558B5D8661B31) for free. A great place for lectures is the Legacy Family Tree Webinars (https://familytreewebinars.com/). Most of the webinars are about an hour long on all kinds of topics. Many are free live and online for a week after. If you want basics, more advanced methodology, or research by locations or topics (like military, immigration, etc.) there are webinars. There are also seminars given, today many of them virtual, that run for a day. Then there are week-long institutes like I attend in the summer.

Anything specific you're looking for?

And Susan @Susan - s3js I consider myself a professional and belong to APG even though I don't take paying clients, don't get paid for my writing, and mostly don't charge for lectures anymore. But that's just my opinion.

I like the idea of a Scrapbook Genealogy class Susan. At some point when your workload is under control.

Not really looking for anything specific. Just thinking that this is one of the hobbies that I truly enjoy and I should do more with it. Thanks for the resources on the virtual classes. It's amazing what virtual opens up for us. Thanks for chiming in Jean!

I get what you're saying, Jean @scrap-genie . Professional is also the level of expertise.

IF I did do any classes, they would have to be how to use PS or PSE since I understand that these have a steep learning curve. And I have no idea how to use them. Sadly such classes are usually out of my price range.

As to genealogy itself, I am pretty knowledgeable about the whys and wherefore, and the history of my ancestors having done 20+ years of research. :)

I would consider myself to be at an intermediate level. I don't consider myself to be an expert, but I am certainly not a beginner.
