Finally got the knee checked.....

So my knee has been bothering me for about two weeks and I finally got to the doc today to get it checked. Turns out it's bursitis right behind the knee cap and man that doctor pushed right in the right spot well wrong spot :hurt: Was not fun, bout came off the table, LOL! The only thing that sucks is that the meds you're supposed to take to relieve the inflammation I can't take because of all the other meds I'm on *sigh* Sooooo.....all I can do is ice, some exercises they gave me and a gel that I can put on it twice a day that MIGHT help a little. Oh well, it will go away, just gonna take some time. But at least it's nothing major!

That sucks you can't do anything. I'm so sorry!!

Ok...I've been wondering if I have bursitis...or some other itis....with my ankle/foot and my knees and my hips. But they don't hurt to the touch like that. More like stress of sitting, standing, and walking.

Oh mine didn't hurt to the touch either! He just knew where to press to check and I about died. The other doctor (who was a young'un) didn't press the right spot in the ten minutes she messed with it but he found it in fifteen seconds flat :/

I can't take anti-inflammatory meds either, but a diet to reduce inflammation has worked wonders for my TMJ & trigger point issues. I eat primally (basically paleo but I have full-fat dairy,) which is inherently an anti-inflammatory diet. It might be worth giving it a try? If not, turmeric is a good anti-inflammatory spice. Plus, you might find yourself being able to go off other meds... most "primal" people have been able to go off meds they were told they would be on for the rest of their lives. I'm down to just "the" pill now!

Andrea- gentle hugs, BT-Doing That with all of the joint issues.
Is is Voltarin Gel? That doesn't help with my joint pain, but it does for tendon issues I have in my elbow where I have nerve pressures. Hopefully it will help for you.

I wish I could do a more anti-infl. diet but the way my family eats, it would be next to impossible to cook a meal that everyone would eat.

Unfortunately with my blood disorder being a clotting disorder I'll be on Coumadin for the rest of my days, it's the reason I can't take anti-inflammatory meds. I can deal with pain though, really didn't care if they gave me anything for it or not, actually turned down the big pain drug she offered me and she looked at me like I had three heads. I just wanted to know what the problem was and fix it! I laughed at her though over the pain meds and said "Guess not many people turn down the oxycodone huh". I've taken it before and if I needed it I would have taken it again but this pain is just a nagging pain like a bad toothache and I can deal with that. ;)

Yep, Voltaren is what they gave me. Not sure if it helped or not, last night was the first time I put it on and then I went to bed, LOL. She said that it might possibly help the inflammation without affecting me systemically so we'll see. If not they are going to talk to my Hem/Onc doc about letting me do a short course of an anti-inflammatory to treat it and have her keep a close eye on my Coumadin levels during that time. Whatever works!

I have bursitis in both hips. The doctor had me go to therapy and that helped a little, but it never got good enough to give me complete relief. I also can't take inflammatory drugs because of the other medication I take. The doctor finally sent me to an orthopedic doctor who gave me a cortisone shot on one side and within a couple of days I was free from the pain and not walking like a penguin anymore.

Lately I've been feeling the discomfort again, so I'm thinking another visit to the ortho is coming soon. Long term I need to get back to an exercise regimen to build strength and flexibility which will help the stiffness. That is my goal for 2014.

I've gotten a cortisone shot before but won't go that route unless I end up having too. Starting the exercises this morning and hopefully they provide enough relief to keep me going as far as work.

There are some on there she didn't give me....are you trying to make me exercise more? :pound: I really appreciate that, I'm up for trying anything new, maybe I'll do some of those in the morning and some at night :p

Funny when I saw this I thought, oh, me too! Mine turns out to be tendonitis and a touch of arthritis which has affected the meniscus.

Been going to PT for a couple of weeks...I love PT, wish I could have it all the time :-) So helpful!

Also been doing lots of strengthening exercises which I think are helping!

What seems to have happened in the last 4 years is that since we play golf or hike every day, which is 2 hours of exercise, I have fallen off my strengthening exercises, other than core and yoga which I do several times a week. And so my poor knees are not as well supported.
I just don't have time for all-over strength exercises! But I am now making time for at least an additional 15 minutes a day of leg exercises.

Pretty soon, I will not have time to work as I need to exercise all day ;-)

Oh gosh Fran those are almost exactly what I have been doing! plus abductor and adductor and front, back and side raises with weights (on the pulley machine).

I actually am signing back up to the gym this week! I always felt so much better when I was going and didn't have as many little issues pop up like I do now. It's going to be the first few weeks that kill me....once I get through those I become an addict and can't stand missing a day.
