external hard drive questions

I am having a funeral for mine today, it has caused my computer much grief over the last week, and finally bit the dust. I have many of my files backed up externally at MOZY- will let you know later if it was worth it. I need a new drive of some sort- my ds was talking about an option that was not a disk, so less likely to fail- what types of external drives are you using and how is it working- what would you recommend I consider??

I have been using westell passbooks with no problems? But I know others who have had problems.

We have an HP MediaSmart Server now. I gave up using EHDs after I had three fail. And right about this time, DH bought this server. It's super duper cool! I've still backed up some photos to DVD and left them at my work, just in case. But this has a back up fail safe and other cool stuff. Plus we can stream using it and I can access it via web when I'm not at home. It's nifty, but probably not for people who aren't very techy.

I use Western Digital little portable EHD's. Never had a problem yet. I own about 3 or 4 of them :) I keep all my important stuff on my hard drive though and back that up to Mozy and to my Mac timecapsule. I keep all my digi supplies on my HD and my photos but move all my PSD layouts to my EHD's. This reminds me that I need to hook up my EHD's and let Mozy back them up. I have over 60 gb of music on one!! :)

I use a Seagate Freeagent Desktop and I love it, it has never given me any problems and has 1TB of storage space, I have had it for a yr. and it is not even 1/4 full yet, I keep everything on it. It is about the size of pocketbook.

I apparently have a death wish for EHD! I've had a WD and a Seagate and killed them both. And one only fell from the couch to the carpeted floor.

mine was a maxtor and is maybe 3 years old- my desktop is so old it came with 160gb hd and ran out of room long ago- thanks for the ideas- thinking I will wait till after the weekend- the price on the server isn't as bad as I thought- maybe a bday gift for myself!!
