I typically have used templates to design my layouts but am broadening my skill set to design my own layouts. I was wondering how others design their layouts.
Not really, but I have to use them sometimes for my CT duties. And now I'm using them more often and I see that as a challenge for me. And like Cheryl said, they're really just such a good starting point.
I love using templates. They make for a balanced page and mean I get to create pages in a variety of styles. This is expecially true, if I need to put several photos on my page. As a CT member I often use templates because this gives additional exposure to designers and a starting point to those who need help with page design.
Sometimes I will, it kind of depends on what I am working on.
If I am totally scrap-blocked I'll use one to break out of it. Often, it is just what I need to get out of my head and get a page started.
Sometimes it depends on the style I am scrapping in. If I am trying to do a cluster, I might pull the cluster layers off of a template to help me place the elements.
Pocket pages-- I would never try to do them without a template, no way!
I just don't think to use them very often. But when I do, I love it. I really need to try to remember to do it more often. I'm such a simplistic scrapper...and with templates it really does allow me to make more complicated layouts. I'm going to focus on doing more with templates.
I may use parts of a template but unless it is to help out a specific designer. I rarely use them.
Having said that I will say it is a great way to learn how to set up a balanced page and create clusters. When I was just learning, that is what I used mostly. If I go back to my very first efforts it is easy to see that a template was used.
