Do you have any Christmas tradition for yourself?

I have started a little tradition of my own - something I do for myself. Christmas is so much about doing things for others, but I have this one thing I do. On Christmas Eve I start on a new knitting (or crochet) project. Something special - something I've been wanting to do for myself. It might be a project that is a bit trickier. Or more expensive. Or something else that make it special, maybe a new technique I haven't tried or something like that.

Do you have any special thing you do before or during Christmas that is just for yourself? Please tell me!

Just realized I haven't picked a project this year yet. Usually I have it planned already. So, I've decided to knit something with this yarn that I bought on Black Friday:

I had actually ordered another yarn, they sent me the wrong one, but I decided to not bother. It was the same price, and returning and waiting for the other yarn - just felt too much work for something that really didn't matter.

Chosing between these two patterns:

Not sure which would be more useful. Might just go by the price of the patterns, the 2nd pattern is cheaper. LOL

I don't think that I have anything like this. And that makes me a little bit sad. So I think that I will think about it for awhile...and try to figure out something that I can do just for me. I think this is a clever idea @tanteva.

I do - three actually. The first is that I collect Santa's in any medium under any name and for whatever purpose. Second - I also collect creches. Some are quite beautiful and some are so ugly, they're cute. And third, I add at least 2 special ornaments for my tree every year. Sure, my boys will get them one day and I have already listed what I want each to have when that day comes (but I add one or two to each of the boxes each year that they will get when they marry, too), but for now, they reflect me, the places I've been and the Christmas memories I have. I have a book I keep that has a photo of each, tells where I got it, when, the price, and pertinent information. You just never know - look at the Radko ornaments, mine might be priceless one day! Shopping for these three is the only shopping I really enjoy at Christmas and I really love just sitting and looking at my special collections when the house is decorated - especially my beautiful tree wit all it's special memories. That's the part of each day of the season that I share with no one.

I don't have any traditions but as a family we always get together for Christmas eve with friends, family and food (and open presents) and also I collect Angels and love to put them out for Christmas. I didn't celebrate Christmas eve like that until I met my husband, but we continue the tradition. Personally I always opened Christmas gifts on Christmas day and thats what my husband, daughters, grandson and SIL still do. I always thought it was weird that my husband and his family always open presents on Christmas eve and went to midnight mass at the church. We did it once with my girls (when they were young at the family's request) and it was a disaster. I don't know how my MIL took 4 little ones to midnight mass. lol Sometimes I still don't believe it!

I don't have any traditions for myself either, I guess I should try to think of something, but honestly I'm usually so busy leading up to the big day that I don't have much time to add anything

Buy as much crafts supplies as I can while the gifts are being delivered. Gifts for others and craft supplies for me!!! It also confuses hubby so I can spend a little extra as “padding” for extra gifts!

As a family, we normally travel. This year we won’t be, but we are eating out at a nicer restaurant as a splurge and because I don’t want to cook…..(or have my MIL over…. It’s true…. We aren’t friends at all…. So there is that as well).

for myself personally ... I give myself permission to binge-watch Christmas movies. And Netflix to my heart's content.

But as a family... I wrap all the gifts and place them under the tree as soon as I buy them. And every day after school the kids come home and check on what's been happening there... they sit and count them, weigh them, smell them, shake them.. compare them... ad try to guess what it is... over the years - and as they've grown older and smarter - I've gotten real clever at this and they rarely guess what's inside... for example, a book would be wrapped in their old sweater, digital goods would be just a piece of paper in a bag of rice, etc... it's SO MUCH FUN to watch them!!
