Do you do Fathers Day??

In this global world, global scrapping site, I am just curious who besides the states celebrate Fathers Day- this weekend or if a different weekend, when.

Sometimes it seems like this is just another Hallmark holiday. So do you??
 
Going to grill out with the in-laws. I celebrated my dad last weekend when we did a birthday/father's day combo. I made chocolate chip cookies & brownies (for ice cream sundaes), pizza rolls, and crabmeat yummies. It's all about the food. We might let the boys all go see Superman too. :-)
 
It is really rather ironic for me- all the postings at mothers day about being sensitive to those that struggle or will never birth a child- for some reason this year fathers day is hitting me hard. My father passed away in 1972 from metastasized cancer. My father in law is miles away in a nursing home. Therefore, I may take my husband out to dinner. Our boys bought a combined mothers day/fathers day gift of a tv for the basement lounge.
 
Mother's Day and Father's Day are both weird for us. Neither of us is a mother/father and ours have been gone ten or more years. On the other hand, our birthdays are near, sometimes on, the appropriate day. It seems everyone around us celebrates something that doesn't apply to us. As I said, weird!
 
It was Father's Day today here in the UK. It's not a big thing here; my kids made cards, Ginny made biscuits (which I think the kids actually ate) and Paddy made his dad bacon & eggs for breakfast.

Otherwise, it was an entirely ordinary day for Dominic - he got to walk the dogs and cut the hedge in the rain!

We are American's in the UK and we celebrated like we do in America. Cards, gifts, and we planned a camping trip to Wales (though that was not relaxing like I had planned!)
 
I'm glad you posted this Laurie...yes we celebrated, but it was a tough day for me. My dad passed away last August. I kept thinking of my mom alone, as I do all the time.

My wonderful daughter was great to my wonderful husband, giving him a beautiful card and we all spent the day out having fun together on Angel Island.

Yet my insides were churning with a lot of emotions I barely understand.

On a more positive side, when my niece was visiting last week, we made a mosaic heart trivet with a wine glass pattern which she gave to her dad, my brother, and they texted a picture with the most wonderful surprise and delight on their faces...most satisfying.

So, I guess that's life...downs and ups :-)
 
Oh Diane...that is hard. I know those first holidays after someone passes are always the hardest. I'm glad you had a great day besides that.

We did absolutely nothing...well...not nothing. We dropped my kids at the airport on Saturday so Sunday it was just us driving home from Charlotte. We did go to Bass Pro and Cracker Barrel though. So that was Father's Day-ish.
 
We celebrate it here. We gave gifts and he was doted on! We love our Daddy! My own Father passed away when I was 11 and we do not communicate with the my inlaws at all.
