lol Madi,

Iceland is not that cold, and no it's name come from the fact that "we" have the biggest glacier than Norway ( from where the first icelanders came).
They called it Ice land, as the first thing they saw was the biggest glacier of Europe.

if you compare to greenland ( green land) Iceland is much warmer in average, and also much green-er too.. :)

LOL the pollapunk, I don't know if they a nb 1 in charts here, but yes we have heard them a LOT
The weird think for us, it is Eurovision is a big thing in iceland.
Most of the Icelanders, makes a party during the eurovision final contest, and play along with giving point and stuff. Bar organize special event around the Eurovision.
and the Icelandic selection, is a event too. (and expensive one)
In France Eurovision is something you watch if you are less then 8 year old, or more than 80 ... but definitively not a "fashion" thing.
It is all different here, and for the last 2 years we have taken the kids to the last "practice" before the final selection of the Icelandic competitor. and we have watch the final contest too.
3 years ago, the icelandic song was fantastic if you ask me. ( love the clip too)
never forget or here
in icelandic
( I actually made a kit around this song LOL)

great questions, everybody...I love getting to know you better, Val!!

I was planning to visit Iceland about 3 years ago but the only time we could go was September and we chickened out that it would be too cold for hiking at some parts.
It's definitely on my to-go-list!!

Q: how much do you take an advantage of your beautiful surroundings - the nature?
(=spending time outdoors)

:) Romy, I know I love to read and ask on Q&A all the time.

We are not hike-er guys, (kids 8 and 4 - ok bad excuse) but we are "travellers".
we have turn and visit iceland , in almost all the ways.
this summer, we will be going around Iceland, and visiting the most beautiful part ( again).: the East fjords.
(West fjords are really popular, and beautiful too) but I SO much prefer the East.

the 2 last month we went on the Snæfellsness peninsula (2* 1 week), one of my fav. place too ( Lilja is there, she can witness how stunning is this part of Iceland)

well we always spend a couple of weeks (at the least) out in the country side, and this year again, I am SO very excited to go (17/07 5/08)

I ll make a photo collection to bring in and show you)

oh and September ( like all the other month ) is not so bad. You can have wonderful last summer days. ( but less daylight than in june, that is right)
I know travelling is cheaper in Sept. and I would def. do it.
(but do not expect high tp. come and be ready for windy chilly days (which could also be sunny and perfect... )
It is a global rule, tho, to be ready for every kind of weather all along the year... it can snow in july...
and weather is know to be quite changing... you can gel ice ball, sun, wind storm and snow within the same day ... and hiking is a serious thing, don't go out without a solid weather forecast check, and letting few people know where you are going. (or hire a guide)(and take your GSM , last year it saved few life, as the tourist have been located through their gsm... lost or injured under heavy weather...)
