Happy Wednesday!
Another cold and yucky weather day ahead but again, nowhere nearly as brutal as the Midwest/Great Lakes. I am worried about the homeless people. How many deaths if they can't get shelter somewhere?

My day yesterday was semi-chaotic. Food shopping wasn't too bad. I was able to be home by 10 am. I tried my best to give Caitlyn updates on the weather and roads. She said that they weren't bad until she got into our town. But she did it and made it home safely.
My mom called a little bit before dinner time to check that they made it home OK. There were three car accidents in front of her house, one seemed serious and an ambulance had to come. Yup, this is where I get it from-- all blame falls on my mom's shoulders. haha!
We also had three calls from our LLMD, changing our appts day and time. I thought I was cleaning on Thursday but that got switched to today. This is why I write my schedule in pencil only.

I made an appt for the podiatrist and will meet my parents for lunch after. Win(?)-Win. Today I have to brave the cold and head to my GP to get the referral.

Wow, I am exhausted this morning. I need much more coffee.
Hope all of you have a wonderful, warm, and cozy day!

Trudy- *knocks wood* nope, don't let a third thing break!!! I really, really shouldn't snicker, but I had to with your comment about being relieved that the garage opener broke when your Gary was using it. BTDT!
Yes, coffee is a necessity. I would brave the supermarket the day before a big storm 1000 times if we were running low.
Did Mason have school? I really hope this weather isn't too bad for them.
The new painting technique sounds really interesting, can't wait to see what you do with it.

Nancy- great job getting around on your own! Thank goodness that the pain meds help you to sleep. I can't imagine sleeping after that kind of surgery- I am restless and need to roll around a lot.
Did you get any snow? We ended up with about 3" but everything is ice now.

Rae- I would not want to be a farmer in this weather pattern. Hope that your cousin is able to get out soon.

Dogs need to go out-- back soon!
*shivering* Cold and icy as heck out there, but not windy yet.

Rae- the book sounds interesting, I love a good mystery/thriller.
Your mom sounds like she was a wonderful person. I cannot imagine how hard it was to have to care for her. It is something I dread. Both of my parents are very independent and it will be really hard on them too.

Kay- you had a very productive day with your errands and library visit. How scary about DD#1- I hope that everything is fine. How is DD#2 coping with this weather?

Stacey- Poor doggie! I hope that she is able to find a home that will work soon. And I hope that you are able to find one for yourself that is a perfect fit. Is there a reason that you have been looking at older dogs, maybe an older puppy (6 months or so) might be an option? Although *all* of my dogs have had issues no matter what age they were when we rescued them. SMH! LOL

felis- hi!!!

good morning - my poor son had a minor melt down. He left work and the traffic was bad due to rain and wind so he felt he was too late getting Luther but he wasn't. Then work is starting something new so he is feeling the pressure there. So he came home and was going to cook. But I could see he was overwhelmed so we just ordered pizza. Watched more hockey so that is fun. So the Physical therapist is bringing one of her students so I guess I have to be on my best behavior and doing the exercises correctly. She added another exercise yesterday. She is so interesting. I used the cane going up the stairs and then to walk to the bedroom and she noticed that I walk correctly heel to toe on the walker but with the cane I revert to walking as if my knee still hurts. How funny is that. So of course I have to work on that. The nurse was by and she said my knee is healing well. Yea!

Chris we got a dusting of snow in the morning and rain in the afternoon so snow is gone. But dang it is so cold! And tomorrow it will be even colder. Luther comes home from day care so tired so that is good.

Trudy how are the family in the east doing with the cold. As Chris asked are their schools closed. You are much tougher in Canada that us in the USA. Hope the third item has not broken. Are you hiking today?

Rae I would not want to be snowed in on my farm but I bet they are super prepared. Hope the doctors helped D get his back back in order! Back pain is no fun!

Kay hope the news you get about your DDs is much better today. I remember when my DH and I lived in Madison, WI we would get temps -20 windchill and we would have to walk to the bus stop. I had on long under ware, sweaters, down jackets, hats and gloves. I would waddle down the street. I am glad I no longer live in areas that cold.

Felis thanks for the compliment on my knee recovery. I am shocked that it is going well but the muscles are not that happy LOL.

Stacey that poor dog. I hope it works out.

Have a great day all!

Morning, gals... slept in this morning until 8AM! Think my body is telling me that I needed the rest. Fell asleep reading the new Kay Hooper book at 10PM so know I got more hours of sleep than usual. Have a bit of a scratchy throat when I woke up so took some meds right away. Don't need to get sick right now!

Haven't talked to DD#2 who lives in Chicago. Hoping she is working from home [she a computer programmer]. The weather there sounds brutal!! Won't have any answers about DD#1's tests until next week some time. I am re-thinking my plans and will put off going to the Base for med refills pickup until Friday morning. Have enough time to do that before the lawyer's appointment. His office is half-way between home and the base. Hope to stop at fruit/veggie market on the way home - plus the grocery store. Their big sales are on Fri/Sat/Sun.

BRB... need another cup of coffee. So glad I have my favored creamer again! Ahhhh.... I need to get an insulated mug as my coffee get cold before I finish it. :ranger:

Chris, I hear you about worrying about loved ones when they are out driving in bad weather. Glad to know the kids made it home okay. Glad you got the changes in appointments and like that you can combine the one appt with a visit with your parents, too.

Nancy, sounds like you are doing well on your recovery. Remember when Mom had her knee replacement, she did the same thing when she used the cane at the beginning but was okay when she was using the walker. <<< hugs >>>

Stacey, sorry the dog didn't work out. Better to know before even trying to take him home. I am sure there is one out there for you.

Good morning, ladies. Just a quick hello today. I've got a bunch of tax papers to get ready for the wkend appt with our accountant. So, on top of desk work, I've got that to do too. But I don't mind only giving myself a few days to get it all together, I work well under pressure and I just want it all done.

D got the ok to go back to work next wk and last night had a big fight with his boss on the phone so I hope that smooths over b/c I don't think that is creating a good work environment. Sometimes D should hold his tongue and just let things be but he can't. He is stubborn and gets irritated too easily IMO. We both know his boss was in the wrong and said some unreasonable things but...as an adult, he should have just seen the bigger picture and just let things be. Oh well...he'll have to deal with it, it's his mess.

Taz is gone to daycare. I've got spaghetti sauce defrosting for dinner tonight (pasta for D and spaghetti squash noodles for me). I'm sure the day will fly by.

Chris - bundle up when you go out. I can't believe the weather everyone is getting. The farmers almanac said Jan/Feb would be the worst winter months and looks like it was right.

Nancy - sounds like pizza was a good choice for dinner last night, no need to stress over food. So glad to hear you are got a good report on the knee healing from the nurse.

Kay - hope the sick germs stay away. As for an insulated mug, they are a bit pricey but IMO worth it, I have a Starbucks metal coffee travel mug that keeps my coffee warm for about 2-3 hours. It works better than any other I've ever bought.

Hope everyone is well and dealing with the crazy weather. Have a great day. I'm getting a coffee refill and back to work now.

Morning ladies... It is finally a morning without frosty fog! Sadly I will not be hiking today though. For some silly reason I booked my cut and colour for today and would not be back from the hike in time to get to my hair appt. What was I thinking booking my hair appt on a Wednesday?? :noidea: Oh well there will be many more hikes to go on. I did make it to swimming yesterday however and I was pleasantly surprised to see the pool was very quiet. Either all the New Year resolution people have gone or everyone is dealing with getting over the horrible cold that has gone around. I did better at swimming than I thought I would. I thought I would have trouble with catching my breath, but it was my arms feeling like they weighed a ton LOL. Guess it doesn't take long to get out of shape! Oh well I will have to work on getting my lap numbers up again. I waited around all afternoon for the garage door guy to come by, but he never showed up :mmph: Hopefully we will hear something from him today. Our son-in-law facetimed us and gave us some good advice about the opener (he has a garage door business) so we are probably looking at getting a new motor and DH should be able to install it himself. Wish SIL lived a lot closer, he would do it for us.

Chris - Glad to hear that Caitlyn made it home safely! Yes Mason's school was closed yesterday because of the amount of snow that they got and the horribly cold temps. I got to talk with him yesterday and he was pretty happy that it was a snow day LOL. Hunter is not used to sharing me with him when we facetime, so he was a bit put out when his brother got the attention. They are both so cute and I miss them very much!! I am looking forward to my new project, but have to wait to get the supplies, some coming from Amazon and others I have to try to track down here in town. Why does everything have to cost so much?? Oh well DH is happy that I keep busy doing my crafts, its less expensive than shopping for new clothes or renovating the house LOL. I am going to start a huge project of painting the winding staircase. I hate the colour of it and have been wanting to do that job for a few years now. Wish me luck!! I will need it!!

:hello: Felis hope that your busy week goes smoothly!

Nancy - So good to hear that you are doing so well! Funny that you walk differently with the cane than the walker. Oh well you are a good patient and will accomplish this new task! Yes the Canadians are a hardy bunch, especially the ones who live in the Prairie where the winters are always nasty!! Poor people in Manitoba are sure freezing!! Sorry your son was feeling a bit overwhelmed yesterday! Nice that you gave him a break from cooking and ordered pizza, you are a great Mom!! Hope you are on your best behavior for the PT student LOL.

Kay - I slept in this morning too, however I tossed and turned a lot last night with many dreams that I can't remember :mmph: I have the same problem with my coffee and it gets cold before I am halfway through. Sure hope your scratchy throat is not going to get any worse!!

Rae - You beat me here this morning. Glad to hear that your D has got the ok to be back at work, but oh sorry that he is not getting along with his boss! You are right it is his mess and its best to let him deal with it all. Hope it works out for him though!! Good luck with getting all your tax info organized and ready for the accountant! Hope your work day is not busy!!

Stacey - Sorry that things did not work out with the dog. Your search continues.

Ok I need some more coffee and then will wait to see I hear from garage door guy or not. Hunter must be napping as DD has not called yet this morning. It is nice that she calls almost every day it always brightens my day and hopefully it does the same for her! Have a wonderful Wednesday ladies!!

Well ladies I have to laugh at myself. Becausemy dog, Joey, has a bad leg and always comes back from the groomer in pain and stiff I am trying to cut my dog's hair myself. Well.. the first time didn't get much of as I used a longer setting. The second time was better by using a shorter setting. Still not enough hair came off so I tried an even short setting. One swipe and I knew that was shaved too close. So my little guy has a good side and a bad side. ha ha The bad side a buzz cut strip! lol Good thing he really doesn't mind what he looks like as long as he gets fed.
With practice I will get better and you know the saying 'hair grows and the difference between a good cut and a bad one is about a week'.
