Happy Winter Solstice!

No, I am not celebrating winter per se. I am celebrating the shortest day of the year. They only get longer from here on out. Yay!
I can't seem to wake my brain up this morning, so if I seem fuzzier than usual, that's why. Although how will you tell? Just know that between words and sentences are am peering at my screen, trying to focus my brain LOL

I am 99% done shopping. I have two things to pick up at my local Walgreens, one is ready, and one says it was shipped and is at the store but the store doesn't have a record of it. That's bad because it is for my brother and SIL-- whose ornament still hasn't shipped. Nothing I can do about it now :(
I finished wrapping everything I could, just waiting on a few more other things to be delivered. The baskets I made for my neighbor are also almost done-- all I need to do is wrap the second with cellophane. They came out really cute if you ask me.

I am cleaning for my friend today instead of tomorrow - we have a big storm coming in on Thursday but it looks like it is going to be just rain. A few days ago they were talking about snow but this way I can have Thurs and Fri to clean and cook here for the weekend.

Signing off for now

@vickyday That makes the nativity even more special if Mark makes it with you ♥
I don't know what it is like to sleep like a baby -- although I do have the urge to cry when I wake up hahahaha. I hope you aren't too stiff today but I bet your stomach hurts from laughing with your BFFs :)

@tanteva I'm so excited to see Hilma. Not fair that work has to come before scrapping ;)
Really glad that you are feeling healthy.
I do the same thing about cooking and food this time of year. I want to know why our families expect us to feed them on top of everything else happening!

@LSlycord Whew, that was a long day/night waiting for Syd. What a relief that she got home ok.

This:
My least favorite questions in the world..."Are you cooking something for supper?" or "Do you have plans for supper?"
ARGH!!!! #angry2

@BrightEyes I am craving organization and tidiness in my house too. I struggle with the chaos of stuff everywhere. This past year it was like that more often than not. (Mark this down-- just wait another year when both kids are out of the house and I wish I had chaos again).
Hope that your hand is better today too

@Cherylndesigns You did a lot of running around the past few days and I don't know how you were able to scrap in between all of it!
That's a bummer about the woman that Ava was sparring with. Hopefully, she won't be at all of the same tournaments in the future

@bcgal00 I can only imagine Remi howling you again and again-- awooo-- snowooooo-- mamaaaaaa- snooowwooooh!

hugs!

Good morning. I have no idea what is going on today. Brian is taking Syd's car in. She has a tire that is constantly losing air so she may need a new tire. Brian had an appointment at 11:00 on Monday and at 2:00 they still hadn't looked at it so he got the car and brought it home. He made another appointment for 9:00 this morning and they said that they would look at it right away. If they need time to fix it, then I will go pick him up. Because I'm pretty sure that neither child will be out of bed...lol.

I'm sitting on the lanai and it's cloudy and damp but we have about 25-30 robins flying around in our back preserve and I just can't go inside while they are here. Robins are very midwestern...probably the first bird that I ever learned. My great-grandmother said that if you spit on your hand, then made a fist with the other hand and stamped the spit when you saw the first robin of spring, it would bring good luck. I still do it today although I may need to change that to the first one you see in the winter in Florida. My grandma used to talk about "little robin red-breast". The memories run deep.

Because I didn't get much sleep the day before, I took a nap yesterday. I was just getting comfy on the sofa when Syd called from upstairs and told me to come up. She was getting ready to take a nap when I got up there so we were able to take one together.

I did not get back to do personals yesterday so I'm going to do that now.

Still dark outside and was only 24*F and it is still dropping... now down to 22*. Had a bit of a startled reaction this AM. Got up at 5AM and looked out onto the dark patio from the MBedroom door. Saw a few lights on in neighboring houses but most were dark. When I walked into the dark kitchen/family room I noticed this bright glow surrounding the window on the door from the family room onto the patio. Looked out and discovered that the patio light was on... it was not on when I looked out from the bedroom! Then it dawned on me... the patio light switch is right by the bedroom patio door... I must have accidently touched it after looking out. Whew... thought for a minute there was something strange going on! ;)

Yesterday was very productive... dropped off the donations, did a quick stop at the dollar store next door, then headed back home. Cleaned out the SUV leaving only must have's in it so it is ready to go to the car wash/detailing place. Will see about getting that done next week. The doorbell rang in the afternoon... Fed Ex dropped off a package. DD#1 & family sent me a Harry & David fruit and candy/popcorn/trail mix box. Luscious pears and other goodies. Called and talked to her to say thanks and catch up on the news from them. Decided to have turkey and dumplings for supper... it was oh, so good!!! Then I watched a couple of movie DVDs. My body is letting me know I did a bit more than usual so will be taking it easy today. It maybe a PJ day... LOL

Yes, Chris... it is much easier to keep things cleared away when there is only 1-2 people living in there...but you will miss having them there once they have moved on to their own places. So don't sweat that the house is a bit cluttered and enjoy having them there.

@faerywings it sounds like all of your preparations are coming together nicely. And you are recruited to Florida anytime that you want. There is always a spare bed here for you! I know you...you would have too much guilt being away from your family...but if you ever change your mind, the bed is here.

@BrightEyes you are so productive, you put me to shame. I think a PJ day sounds just right! I have gotten it into my head that I really would like to watch Winds of War again. But it isn't streaming anywhere. I would need to buy the DVD set from Amazon but I don't have a DVD player anymore. So I'd need to purchase that as well. So maybe I'll read the book instead. I'm sorry that the memories of DH getting worse this time of year make it harder. ((hugs))

@tanteva I'm anxious to see photos of Hilma. Such creativity on your part. Hope that work didn't wear you out too much.

@Cherylndesigns it sounds like you have been crazy busy. But it always sounds that way because you are crazy busy! LOL Before Syd went to college, I read some suggestions about having Norcan in their medical kits. Apparently you can't get it over the counter but if you have a conversation with your pharmacist, they can write a script. Also most doctors will now prescribe it for a precautionary if kids are in college. And, it is scary out there. Good decisions could keep you away from the "scary" when I was younger. I don't think that is true today.

@bcgal00 your temps combined with your snow makes me cold thinking about it. Hayden is a "talker" and a "whiner". The reason that we watched Old Yeller last night was because Sydney was looking for dog movies. Hayden will watch dog movies on TV for hours and cry and bark and watch. I'm sure with all of the snow, the birds are so appreciative of your house.

@vickyday how is the creche coming? I know that it will be beautiful when finished.

Ok...off to accomplish something. I need to get a mammogram appointment scheduled. That probably means 25 minutes on hold. Best get started.

Yes, ALWAYS lots of laughter, teasing and bantering with us three gals! Love them to pieces!

I've got the pattern drawn for the size. I put 2 pieces of 8.5x11 papers together so we (Mark) would know how large to cut the wood.

So, since this is the shortest day of the year, that is a good reason to just stay in my PJs, right? No need changing since I will just turn around and it will be time to put them back on......just saying! Except for the fact that I don't think my pastor would appreciate my walking into church tonight in them, LOL!
Glad you are almost done shopping! That in itself must be a relief!

I sure love reading about the relationship you and your daughter have! It is so sweet! My oldest child, Jessica, was the only child that would come into my bedroom at night to tell me about her day. And she is the only daughter that still calls every week or two to chat. I never hear from the boys unless I initiate the conversation. And the third child, DD#2, is nothing like her older sister! She is emotionally more like her brothers, LOL! Poor Jessica is just like me.....can cry at the drop of a hat.....loves crafts of all kinds.....another me pretty much all the way around!

Good morning ladies. We are on the countdown to Xmas and I am happy but also so sad. I woke up feeling really blah, heavy limbs, heavy heart and thinking about Bailey. I know getting outside soon with the dogs for a few minutes will lift my spirits. I am going to keep busy today, focus on happy things. I think I'll take some macro shots of the tree today. Remi just came over and gave me a big snuggle. I love that she is such an empath, so aware and watchful of my mood.

We finished the finale of The Cleaner last night and started Vampire Academy. It is a good one for us to watch this week as its easy to follow, its not a deep thinker or too complicated to follow. I don't want to watch any holiday shows or movies. So fantasy, horror, thriller types of shows are perfect right now.

I never did wrap this wkend but I will today. I will get the roasting pan out so I know where it is and don't have to hunt for it the morning of Xmas for the turkey. Jen's boss went into the hospital a few days ago, some kind of GI bug. The other girl is sleeping at the kennel (the owners home is upstairs) and Jen will work longer hours to help out. The owner should be home today or tomorrow but I'm sure she'll be resting a lot for the rest of the wk. She is 74 and just battled cancer so she is worn out, poor woman. So we won't see much of Jen this week. No idea what Jen's work hours will be for Xmas day but we'll open gifts and eat dinner dependent on her schedule.

Today is the cold -13 F but then it starts to warm up over the next week. The dogs will be happy to be able to get out longer to play in the snow. Remi is howling at the window upstairs, looking out at the street, she really wants to go out and play. I'll take her out now and feed the birds, I'll throw snowballs for a few minutes.

@faerywings See, I told you, things are getting done. It's smart to get the cleaning done today.

@LSlycord What sweet memories about the robins. I just posted a photo of a robin in the tree on FB yesterday. I spotted one as I was photographing a woodpecker.

Time to bundle up and get out with Remi. She is staring at me intently, whining softly. HAGD everyone.

Good Morning!
I've been up for a good while, but I wanted to finish the last couple of hours of the book I was listening to, "Cross Roads" by Wm. Paul Young. It was hard to get into but got pretty interesting about chapter 3. @LSlycord , I think you would like it, Linda! It is different, but pretty good. Spoiler.....I may have teared up at the end.

Anywho.....today is a PJ day, I think. However, if it warms up enough, I may step out onto the patio/deck to mark out the pattern for my creche onto the wood for Mark to cut out. And mark the branches that will need to be cut, too. I could bring it all in and do it on the dining room table, but I don't really want the mess in here! But it may need to come to that if the weather turns frightful as it is supposed to. We are supposed to be getting freezing rain! YUCK! As much as I don't like snow, I'd rather have snow than ice!

Have a good day!

Good morning all,

It's a blustery 41 degrees, but it supposed to get really cold in the next couple of days. Oh, joy! Last December was so warm - low 70's some days - we got spoiled.

Chris, @faerywings I saw a picture of your tree in the forum last night. It's gorgeous!! I'll bet it's so cozy in that room with the tree lights on at night. Ours isn't very big around, our old one was much bigger, but this one fits in our space better. I got a tree, so that's all that matters.

I scrap at night to unwind - Chuck goes to bed at 10 every night, so that gives me some time to scrap. I get grumpy if I can't get my scrapping time in. Quite a few of the layouts I post on FB have been done previously and are being held until the products are in the stores, before I can post them.

Linda @LSlycord that's good to know that Narcan is available now. Have you gotten any for your kids (especially Syd, now that she's away at college)? That's so sweet that you still do the ritual that your grandma used to do when you see the first robins. I don't remember seeing many robins in FL either.

I'm going to get busy here - I need to decorate my front door wreath, yet. I might get everything done before Christmas. Hahaha That tree debacle really set me back. Christmas Tree

Hugs to everybody who needs them for this time of year.

XOXO

Work was ... gee, ok I guess, but it's been a weird day. First I woke up 1am, and the pain in my ear was killing me! Had to get up and get a pain killer. Had to eat pain killers all day.

Best news today: one of our co-workers, had his permanent residence in Sweden approved. We've been worried he wouldn't get it approved, cuz it's taken silly long time. But now he can stay!

Worst today: read a news article on-line (local newspaper) and found out that one of John's childhood friends have passed away. I'm so sad. I didn't know he had gotten into trouble, and started with drugs. 25 yo and overdosed. Sooo sad. All I can think of is that little boy that used to come to us and play with LEGO.

Life is a roller coster.
