It is much drier outside today, not so much in the basement. I don't think the sump pump has stopped running since Saturday. I am just very happy that it is working. *knocks wood for a long time* We are back in that place where everything is breaking down and getting screwed up.
Last week, the washing machine was leaking. Then it didn't the next few days so I thought it was just a weird fluke. Next was the dishwasher. That is still up in the air, we haven't run it since but I am pretty confident that the problem is going to start again, just like the washing machine did yesterday. And in spite of all my deep cleaning and crazy efforts to make sure all of the pantry pests are gone, I boiled up two different boxes of pasta last night and had to throw them out.

A couple of weeks ago, I took *everything* out of my cabinets and pantry, opened everything that I could, and anything that was questionable, I tossed out. What I had been doing with the pasta was before I even cooked it, I would put it on paper towels on a cookie sheet, sift through to make sure nothing else was in there.

I was making orzo with asparagus, lemon, and parm cheese. Everything was going perfectly- the asparagus was blackened in the cast iron skillet and sauteed with the garlic, all ready to be tossed together with orzo. I opened the *sealed cellophane bag* of orzo and poured it slowly into a shallow bowl, stirring it to look really carefully for anything that didn't belong. Poured that into the pot of boiling water-- still nothing but pasta. Whew- I am thrilled, everything is on time, the table is already set- yahoo! Dinner wasn't stressful at all. I add the lemon juice and parm cheese to the asparagus so all lI need to do is add the cooked orzo. Drain orzo and *&*$#&*^#@#*(, there was a small little flying bug like a gnat in there. ^%^$##))@! I bring the colander to the garbage and I am not sure if you have even done this, but it is really hard to pour a colander of orzo into a garbage pain while your glasses are completely fogged up from the steam. Only about half of the orzo made it into the can. The rest of it was down the front, the back, in the handle, and onto my feet. I also don't know if you have ever tried to clean hot and wet orzo from the floor but it was impossible! You can't use a brush/dustpan. You can try a paper towel but they just kind of smear. My last hope was the dogs-- they were nowhere to be found!!
I start a fresh pot of water, grab a box of penne, pour that onto the cookie sheet, and push it all around. I don't see a darn thing other than pasta. Nothing, not a speck anywhere. The water boils and I put the penne in a handful at a time. Whew. Then I poke the asparagus that has been sitting way too long in the skillet and is looking a bit past its prime. Whatever. I pour the penne into the colander ( my glasses off so they don't fog again and I can see every last noodle as it goes in)-- looking good!
*&^&^$%#^()^%$%$#%$()_!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THERE IS A TINY BUG ON TOP OF THE PENNE!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST TAUNTING ME.

OMG, I swear I could have burst into tears but I had to have been dehydrated after standing over the hot stove for an hour and a half.

So I have this overcooked pan of asparagus and not an ounce of energy to make attempt #3 with pasta. Called the family down said- you are all on your own. Took some leftovers out of the fridge, Cait made a tomato and cheese sandwich and that was that.
Scott's friend is going to be here for dinner tonight and I hope they don't mind a bit of extra protein in their pasta. JK-- I am going to look really carefully at the pasta again- I bought three boxes last week so they should be safe to use but if not, I will run out to get one this afternoon or send someone.

Wishing everyone a GREAT day!!

@tanteva That is great news that you are going to have some extra hours this fall. I am so happy for you!
Bwuahahahah!!! Madame President, may I put my name forward as the VP?
That is a great idea of making that schedule for cleaning. I have done that before with varying rates of success. IWhen I do it before a party or holiday I have better results. The organizing part is always the worst. I pulled everything out of the closet floor yesterday and now I have a pile of shoes that I need to "try on." They will likely stay in that pile until I get sick of it and then throw it all back into the closet until the next time I clean it out in a few years LOL

Kay- I think so too about my mom and the pillows. I looked online for recommendations and also at the hotel's website. I think we will be fine but I don't; want any extra stress for her. How sweet of your sister and yes, you make sure you listen to her and let her help. (Yeah, cuz I am soooo good with that! HA!!)

@Cherylndesigns I would have been with you and Adrienne- sipping some wine. I get into the cranky "get off my lawn" mentality much quicker than I used to. :p
Good luck with that Johnson grass, it really sounds miserable. There is a lot of Japanese knotweed up here that takes over but thankfully I don't have that on my property. I am getting overrun with poison ivy and I can't pull it out and O don't; know anyone who can. Scott and I are both very sensitive to it.

I am very lucky- everyone I clean for doesn't ask me to do beds. That is where I draw my line. :D Disgusting toilet bowls from three small kids in the process of being potty trained-- not a problem- beds.... nope can't do it.

hugs!

Chris @faerywings I must be dense but DH and I agree we'd pick out the bug and eat the pasta. It has been well boiled after all. Or is it just not vegetarian any more? So sorry for the stress it all caused you. Sounds like way too much to handle. Also want to say about your mother's pillow - take it!! I have taken my own pillow when traveling by car for a long time. Not for sanitary reasons but because I like a squishy little pillow the likes of which I find nowhere else. It's something handy when traveling too.

Eva @tanteva I think you are way beyond me in even having a cleaning/organizing plan. When someone is coming to visit we make an effort at it all, but that's about it beyond the most necessary.

Cheryl @Cherylndesigns I have very evil thoughts about folks on those ATVs. Not just noise but the destruction of the land they cause. And they create "parks" just for their use. At least they do in OK. Hope you don't have a Johnson grass war to deal with but sounds like you are ready for it and have great helpers.

We had some beautiful weather but it is warming up a bit with more humidity, so I'll just try to keep cool.

Waving to all!

Jean, I HATE those things, too! Especially when the little "brats" come for a visit and their parents let them run wild on them! I'll probably lose it on them one of these days! I think it's rude and irresponsible. The last time I got angry - I said "put the keys away!". I'm SO glad somebody feels my pain!!

I hope that awful Johnson Grass is gone forever, too.

Good afternoon all.

Chris @faerywings having a couple of glasses of wine sure helps. I love your "get off my lawn" - mine lately has been "get out of my house". I'm really not that mean. Roger's gone and I swear those kids go into "overdrive" when he's not here. They're too old to be acting like this. My kids used to do the same thing because Chuck traveled all the time. He'd be gone for 2 weeks at a time. They weren't very old, though. They remind me of those days. "Roger's gone - we can go crazy". UGH They were really crazy Sunday.

Hope everybody is having a good Tuesday.

Decided that I would try to get a few errands done today... haven't done anything or gone anywhere since I got the muscle relaxers last Thursday. Well, I found out very quickly that I am not up to doing much at all yet. Got a couple of DVDs then stopped at library for a few books... out just over an hour and came home too wiped out to try to do anything else. I now understand why the PA said to take it easy and get used to the meds. Came home - fixed a PB&J sandwich for lunch then laid back in the recliner and fell asleep for over an hour.
