GooooOd morning!
OMG I am loving the weather here in NJ- we hit 70* yesterday and will go up to 73*-ish today. I still prefer it to be hotter, but I will take this weather any day. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!
And spring cleaning fever hits-- I have two bags of clothes and shoes to be donated to the school. Threw out a garbage bag of stale cereal, rock hard raisins, a jar of salsa... it feels so good even though it doesn't *look* like I did anything.
I also got to do a couple of hours of yard work. Off to work for my MIL today to do the same. I'll be hurting for sure-- but as I always say- I am going to hurt one way or the other, I might as well make it a "good" hurt. (one that is from being productive and from something that I enjoy). One of these days (years, maybe) I will learn how to better pace myself, rather then keeping moving until I can't. LOL Its a learning process... eh?
Tip On Tuesday:
This might seem obvious-- but this is a good tip for parents of younger kids. If you want to talk to your teens-- really get into whatever it is that they are into. Scott and I have always had super, intense, sometimes heated conversations about politics and the environment and current events. I think that is one reason why we are so close-- that he knows that he can talk to me about sensitive issues and I will listen. (don't' always agree and sometimes I say stuff and then need to work it out better- but we both do that).
with Cait is was harder- until a few months ago. She started getting me into her music (my inspiration for my Lyric Challenge here this month!!). She started sharing stuff about her "Band Guys" the meanings behind the music- and now we seem to have so much more to talk about and they are all amazing starting points for real ife discussions. Yesterday I looked up the lyrics of a song that this guy wrote about his mom who died when he was 17 and how he hopes she is proud of him. On our walk, we talked about that and how hard it is to lose someone and how people shouldn't judge others by how they look. Band Guy is heavily tattooed, lead singer in a metalcore band, looks like a bad a$$, but needs his mom to see him and be proud.
Anyway-- like I said, it sounds like common sense but sometimes I think (I know I have done this) we see the kids as unreachable with their loud music, weird clothes or whatever the generations do that is different from us.
Its also nice when your dd makes a folder of cute band guys photos and names it "For Mommy" and shares it on your computer.
