Happy happy day to you all!
So...my computer/Firefox seem to be having a blast trying to mess things up. I don't get it, I will be typing and then the cursor drops to the bottom of the screen. Or it flips me back to the last page I was on. Or the delete key doesn't delete but adds periods.
FF is still doing its weird thing of not switching tabs unless I open a link in a new window even after I uninstalled/reinstalled FF.
None of this makes any sense.

Who can relate? I know Rae can. :sorry:

The kids did ok getting back to school. That was nice. Cait's car's check engine light is back on so they are going to stop on the way home to drop it off at the shop. They both get out at 1 pm so that works out. Hopefully, we can get the car done by Saturday so she will have it for school on Monday.

A very happy note here. Scott and Leah have been talking even more seriously about getting engaged. My grandmother, the one that didn't like me, left me her engagement ring. Back in the day when I had money and places to go, I had it reset into a necklace, but now I haven't worn it in years and years and years. I offered it to Scott if he wants to take the diamonds and have it reset into a ring. He said Thanks, Mom and gave me a really big hug. The kicker of it all is that I spoke to him *before* he had any coffee, so that hug was even more special.:becky:
It just makes me so thrilled.

Today, I am taking the Princess J to the vet for her heartworm test. I also want to ask the vet about her throwing up, she still throws up a few times a month. The vet tends to be a bit "procedure happy" which puts me in a bad spot of having to decide what to do and what I can afford. As it is, heartworm pills are so $$ and I also need to get a bottle of Dasaquin for her arthritis and joint issues. That alone is $80.
Well, it is what it is... good thing she is cute. ;)

Hoping that you all have a wonderful and enjoyable day!
xoxo

Today is:
Oh Popcorn! Delicious and delightful popcorn is part of so many traditions. Popcorn balls at Halloween, Popcorn strings at Christmas, and Popcorn all year round at the movies! Corn has played an important role in the diets of many cultures, and has spread to be a worldwide phenomenon since it was imported from the new world. So on Popcorn Day make sure you have yourself a great big bowl of this delicious treat!
History of Popcorn Day
To discuss the history of Popcorn day one must understand the history of Popcorn. The original corn was derived from a small grass with kernels not much different than that of wheat, careful selection and generations of breeding has resulted in what we think of today as the corn plant. When settlers came to the New World from the Old Country, they discovered this amazing crop and that it had been in use for time out of mind.
Sometime along the line it was realized that certain corn kernels, when subjected to heat, will pop and reveal their soft fluffy endosperm in a cloud around their shell. Before long it was discovered to be a light and delicious treat, and cultivation led to the popcorn we have today. There’s actually two types of popcorn, but the familiar yellow popcorn we all see in movie theaters is by far the most popular. Popcorn has been used for everything from arts and crafts to the foundation of some of the most popular treats around. You can find it just about anywhere you go. The National Popcorn Board decided that this fluffy treat needed a day of celebration and recognition of its own, and thus was born National Popcorn day!
How to Celebrate Popcorn Day
Celebrating Popcorn Day is as simple and delicious as it comes! You can start by just enjoying a bag of popcorn with your favorite toppings, and oh what delectable variety there is. You can have it with a classic mix of butter and salt, or get creative and add your favorite spices and herbs to it! There really isn’t anything that doesn’t go wonderfully with it. For a light heart-healthy addition you can skip the butter and shake it down with herbs like rosemary and thyme, or spice it up with cayenne. Or you can forgo the healthy options and bury it under a delicious coating of caramel and bacon, and really enjoy the decadence.
You can also celebrate it by doing crafts with it, popcorn strings are a wonderful decoration, or you can use it to make garlands or even glue it to construction paper for a collage! And don’t forget the paint and glitter!

Today is also Tin Can Day but that in nowhere near as fun to celebrate :D

Nancy- mac and cheese is on the menu here this weekend. Such a good comfort food.
WTG Devils on beating the Wild!
Thank you for understanding how I feel about phone calls. I actually copped out and emailed the Medical/Dental Insurance companies since they had email forms.
Where is your son off to in Feb? That is going to be weird, hope that he won't be too far.

Trudy- *fingers crossed that the flooding doesn't get bad* I cannot complain that we have had rain the last few days but no real downpours.
I am so sorry that your MIL and FIL had to talk face to face with Aunt Marion. I hope that it wasn't bad news.
Yes, I am so proud of Scott. He has been asking about renting vs buying, savings, working several jobs- all to put towards his future. He told me how much he has saved up so far and I was floored. He said that I was the one who taught him how to save so I shouldn't have been surprised. hah!
That is a smart investment for Heather to get the new furnace. Thankfully the weather has cooperated this winter but god only knows what will happen next.

Rae- This month is going pretty fast. I am trying to gear myself up mentally about the inauguration tomorrow. I keep trying to focus on what NancyP said that trump won't let the US fail. I sure as heck hope not, but what a mess it all is. :(
How nice to chat with your hygienist *before* they start messing inside your mouth. Great news on the successful GF shopping.
The pumpkin soup was good, and I finally got back to making a salad with dinner too.

Only 4 minutes after my 7.30 am ban :D
HAGD!!!!

Good morning! I'm off to a dr's appt shortly but am happy to pop in while it is still in the am.

Chris, Scott is sounding so amazing! Even more so when he attributes good traits to you. Hope things go well with the vet and not more $$ than you expect. As for tomorrow, I still can't come to grips.

Hoping for a good day to all.

good morning - Had a great talk with my sister. It is so fun to catch up each week. Also got Luther out for his morning walk. Which was nice as the sun is out and it is not too cold. Ice and snow are all gone but the ground is muddy which when walking through the woods is a bit yucky. I have been taking a break to learn lightroom - creativeLive had a free class and since I have photoshop CC it comes with Lightroom I figure I should see how to use it. Well the class is amazing. I have learned that the external hard drives are very fragile and what I really need is a solid state external hard drive. It can be dropped and you won't ruin your back-ups. So that is a must buy. But it turns out that he feels that if you use Lightroom correctly you don't have to worry about the originals. I have never felt the need to do much post processing on my photos so I don't use RAW. Do you ladies shoot in RAW? I think with spring coming I am going to try RAW but what do you all do? I have gotten through all the lessons so I am not sure what else I will learn. But this is such fun. He really suggests that you get all your photos off your computer and on to a EDH. That so scares me LOL. As for Charles leaving my nest. He has been wanting to get out on his own as he is turning the big 30. He did all the looking and talking to his friends. He found a room in apartment. One of his friends had lived here before. He went and met his potential roommates and he was happy as were they. He works in Weehauken and now will live in Jersey City. So he can then use the LightRail to get to work. It will save him lots of time and a lot less stress as the commute now is up the turnpike with all the trucks and buses. He hates NJ transit buses. So I am proud that he has done this all on his own. But as I say he will be back for food and laundry!

Chris that is such fun news about Scott and Leah! They seem such a good fit and you like her family so that is good too! Love that today is popcorn day. I do like popcorn! Hope visit to the vet goes well! And OMgosh do dogs cost a fortune.

Trudy hope you did not get any flooding. My sister just said that Phoenix is bracing for 3 days of rain and lots. The mountains are expecting 12 inches of snow. Sorry that your MIL and FIL had to talk to Marion. Hope the news is good! Glad to see you had fun at the pool again! I am sure it will take you no time to build up to more laps!

Rae I can't believe the weirdness of Photoshop in saving the file and making the weird noise. So strange! Bet it was indeed fun to catch up with your hygienist. I always enjoy the pre talk and the feel of the teeth after but not so much the cleaning itself LOL.

Have a great day all!

Morning ladies... Still wet out there but I can see a break in the clouds and maybe we will even see the sun today? Lots of fog hanging over the Lake at the bottom of the hill It looks like a scene from a scary movie! Always something interesting to see when I look out the window, so blessed! Back to swimming today and hoping that the pool is nice and quiet again today. Yesterday of course did not turn out the way I had planned, not in a bad way though as my sister Pam asked if she could take me out to lunch, well of course was my answer!! Who passes on a nice lunch downtown? Then we talked and talked and shopped a bit also. So much for scrapping three pages!! I did manage to get one done though. MIL and FIL came by a bit late, but did do the FaceTime with Aunt Marion and it was good to just let them talk and catch up. No real news from her as she does not want to know her test results until after Feb 2. Why that day I have no idea :noidea:

Chris - Well isn't that exciting to know that Scott and Leah are thinking of getting engaged!! Exciting for you all!! How wonderful that you have those diamonds to give to Scott also, nice to know that they will be used with beautiful meaning! Hope that your visit to the Vet is not too costly and that you find out what the throwing up is all about! Happy Popcorn day, I have found that I can no longer eat the Orville Redenbacher type of microwave popcorn, it really upsets my stomach, but the theatre type or the real popcorn that you cook in a bit of oil on the stove with lots of butter on top oh my gosh so yummy!! DS has a theatre style popcorn maker and it is so good! No more of that microwave crap for me. But the real stuff is just not on my diet right now either

Jean - So nice to see you here this morning! I hope all goes well at the Dr today!

Nancy and Rae - We are probably cross posting so I will say I hope you have a great day and that you get to do something fun today!!

Off to get some breakfast and hopefully some commenting in the gallery this morning too! Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good morning, ladies. I'm tagging stuff in ACDSee. It's going to be relatively fast to tag kits as a I download them but very time consuming for older kits already on my computer. I'm trying to keep it fairly simple and not tagging everything. I'm also tagging previews which should be helpful. I've got so much to do with setting up the computer, photo sorting and tagging. I'm trying to do a little each day.

Talked to my computer guy yesterday and it sounds like my monitor is starting to break down. It is about 4 years old so he said that is about the life expectancy of them. I'll be looking around for a bigger LED one hopefully on sale. I also have the number of a guy who sells used ones so I'll see what he has. I don't mind getting one that isn't too old so it will be good for a few more years if its a big reduction in price. The one I want is very expensive but I know that's not possible right now. Too much money going out for other things to splurge on that so I need to be economical. The jittery lines are popping up in photoshop only at this point so I'll keep going with it for awhile until I find a good deal.

Chris - computer woes support group maybe? lol. Lately it seems to always be something. Such happy news with your son and such a precious gift of the stones for the ring.

Jean - good morning. Hope the doctor's visit isn't for anything major.

Nancy - I shoot raw b/c I like to retain as much info in my image as possible and it enables you to preserve the shadows and highlights more. It does require using a raw editor such as lightroom, camera raw, aperture, exposure x, etc to convert it to a jpeg which is a smaller sized format acceptable everywhere (for printing, web viewing, etc). My system is to import photos from card to HD and an EHD so I have two copies. Then I import into LR (importing from the HD folder which doesn't create a 3rd copy, just creates a virtual copy for editing). I do it this way now b/c it can be time consuming to import raw files (b/c they are much larger than jpegs) into LR so I first get them into the main HD and a backup EHD and then later get them into photoshop whenever I am ready to edit. When I edit a batch and save as jpeg onto my HD then I load them into an online gallery (smugmug) where I store them permanently and delete the raw files as I don't need them anymore. It seems like a lot of work but I'm getting to be more picky about handling my photos b/c I have lost so many over the years with computer crashes and HD failures. So, in a nutshell, I keep two copies of raw files, then when edited and saved to jpeg I store that online and delete the raw files. Hope this makes sense.

Trudy - so much rain...ugh. We had it coming into the garage last night as there was too much to go through the drainage grate out front of the garage. It wasn't enough to worry about but we'll keep an eye on it. We had the drainage tiles replaced about 8 yrs ago so I think they are ok, just more water coming than can drain fast enough. Glad to see today it has lessened. Sounds like a fun time with your sister, and you still got a page done. I don't eat microwave popcorn anymore either. I have a cuisinart electric popper that I like. I cook the popcorn in a bit of coconut oil, melt a bit of butter and season it with various spices. That doesn't bother my stomach at all. I've been reading about corn as I seem to have a problem with it sometimes but not all the time. I think my problem is what is in the popcorn and corn products like Fritos (the additives, chemicals, possible GMOs, etc). If I eat corn on the cob or microwave popcorn I'm fine.

I'm going to finally get dressed (slacking off today LOL), get a bagel and coffee and get some computer work done. Have a great day, everyone.

Today my DD and I took one of our dogs to the vet for a Hearworm consult. She tested positive, which is normal for rescue dogs who came from the streets. My dog was picked up from the street by Animal Control in Dec. 2015. She went to a kill shelter. I adopted her in late Feb. 2016. Hearworms have a 6 month delay in showing positive in a test. She was negative when tested in January. We got a schedule of treatment. She goes back in 2 months for her first injection. We are praying for the best.
