:sweeping2: <~ My brain officially exploded and today I am cleaning up the mess.

Holy cow, it was another off-the-rails day.

I spoke to my friend more in the last 24 hours about stuff going on at the old house than I would have thought possible. The landlord has been threatening her and they had a few more things left at the old house to pack up. Gary and I took everything that we could that was outside and brought it here. Plus, we kept an eye to make sure that my friend's son was safe while he was by himself packing in the afternoon. It is *that* crazy.

In between that, I had a long heart-to-heart mixed with a little straight talk with my mom. Not sure if that got anywhere but I did my best.
I was cooking dinner when my brother called and gave me the news that he got laid off. He worked for a hotel corporation and hospitality is not doing well in this economy. They let some people go in May, but another round came through and he was part of that. :(

Just a messed-up day for so many people.

My happy note of the day is that dinner was incredibly good!
Caitlyn found a recipe for Vegan Egg Roll in a Bowl. Tofu, cabbage, carrots, and radishes cooked with soy sauce and sesame oil. Because I was on the phone with my brother, I ran out of time to cook the rice. But I had a bag of Chinese Chow Mein noodles instead.

I am heading to work today -- I have a few more things to bring over to the cabin and then we have a retreat-planning meeting at 1.

Oh yeah, I need to post my AJ Week 4 challenge too!

xoxoxo

What a nice surprise that your friend left you the bird feeders. You will be able to think of them every time you watch and feed them!
I saw more birds at my feeder yesterday than ever. I always saw them flying between my house and theirs, so I guess when the birds came up empty across the street, they flew back here. I'm sure that some of the migration is starting since I am seeing different birds pop up.

Quick in and out again this morning. Ilene has reappeared from the dead, LOL! She went north the week before Mark and I went to FL. She told me she would be coming back the same weekend as us, giving her 2 weeks north to our 1 week south. She didn't call me until yesterday. She thought I was still in FL! The woman listens but doesn't hear ya! If you know what I mean!
:rotfl:
Did you have a great time catching up with each other?

I'm not sure what I did yesterday but it was mostly dog food :floorlaugh: Even with the instant pot it took all day. I made four batches of 7cups rice, two batches (actual hubby did fish) of fish, I think 8 fillets. Then thaw corn, green beans, cook carrots, mix it up in the mixer so it all forms together almost like a paste. Scoop one cup size into hamburger patty form and then cut in half and freeze. I think I dreamed dog food :floorlaugh: Okay maybe that was drama but it felt like that. Stood most of the day and dont feel too bad for having been on my feet all day. We joke that the dog food is "pucks" because we use the Tupperware hamburger press to form the dog food and they look like frozen large hockey pucks when done. ( Tupperware ) I think we made about 10 days worth of food. Takes 8 pucks a day to feed the dogs. Good thing they're cute.
Well, one nice thing is that if you don't want to cook one night, you could eat the dog food on a bun. With enough condiments (NOT ketchup), no one would know the difference Hahaha!!!
Fab to hear that standing all day wasn't terrible.
We are nowhere close to the extremes of daylight as you are, but I am feeling the difference here, too.

I finished reading my book so the meet up with book group at the winery last night was great fun. Too bad when we meet a the library they don't let us order wine, it adds to the conversation. :wine4:
:giggle4:
You still have over a week left to do the 6 challenges. As long as you don't scrap like I do, where it takes 5 days to finish 1/2 a layout.
This is such a hard topic, because we've built a society that requires driving in order to fully participate in it.
This is so true. My mom and I talked about him using Uber and he previously dismissed that as a "taxi." I also suggested before that he look into the town's senior center. And some bigger towns have para-transit and I would think Parsippany would. But that would mean admitting you're "old." pfft.
Who knows -- maybe there is a silver lining with my brother being out of work for now.... he can be my dad's Uber.
(god help us all)

Love and hugs, my friends!

This cracked me up. We had that conversation that worse case we could eat the pucks of fish. :floorlaugh: No thanks

Not much happening here. Meeting a friend for coffee and that sums up my day. Need to get some coffee into me. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

So sorry your brother was laid off!
Hope your mom was actually "hearing" your conversation with her!
Have a great day at work!

Had a great time catching up with Ilene. She is a hoot!

Good Morning,
Was going to spend another day with Ilene but am fighting a headache instead! My nose is clogged up this morning, and I hope that doesn't mean I'm working on a cold or something!
I got some FL scrapping done yesterday. Will work on some more pages today.
Mark is working again today. I love that he is getting more hours! Thank You, Lord! He came home at 9 and took the truck to be inspected then came back to the house and took the motorcycle for inspection. Fixed a sandwich after he got back and then headed back to work.
I worked on a grocery list that I will pick up between 1 and 2 today. Its been a couple of weeks since I placed an order, so it was HUGE with a HUGE $$ sign! When I came home from Ilene's yesterday, she gave me several things that her daughter passed on that she couldn't use from the food panty she went to. They loaded her up with more stuff than she and her husband can eat, so rather than see it go to waste she shared it with her mom and me. So some of my grocery order was for things I don't usually buy to fix some of the stuff she gave me that I normally wouldn't buy.....like collard greens! But I took them since Mark loves them! YUCK! So I will work on those this afternoon after I get the grocery order picked up.
I guess that's about it for me today!
Have a great day!

Morning, all. Waiting for DD#1 to call me to come to her son's house and pick her up. She flew in so doesn't have a car. I need to go to Walmart today and his house is close to there. Makes more sense for me to stop and pick her up while I am there. She will stay with me until Sunday afternoon... then back to his house for a few days next week. Pretty sure that DD#3 will come down to visit DD#1 this weekend.

Just finished uploading the Art Journaling week 4 LOs.... @faerywings I LOVE YOUR LOs... They have been spectacular and so so inspiring this month. And I uploaded my LOs using Palvinka's new release.

DD#1 just called so I have to go. CYL

@faerywings you just gave me a good three minutes of confusion because I was pretty sure today is Friday, but no one else here seems to think so. But surely, if David is at Habitat, it must be Friday?

OK. Checked my phone so I know it's Friday. Nice morning, alternately clouds and sun, not hot, so I took a bike ride out to Sugar Hollow and back, 20 miles. Lots of cyclists out this morning, but I'm still the slowest. I hadn't recharged my battery so I was kind of nursing it by riding in "Eco" mode -- lowest power assist -- except on the uphills. But it got my heart pumping.

Totally uninspired about what to make for dinner. Maybe I'll just order a pizza. I probably have a coupon. Also uninspired to do laundry, but it must happen. No coupon for that, though!

my brother called and gave me the news that he got laid off.
I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I think we'll be hearing a lot more of that over the next year
I ran out of time to cook the rice.
I have started cooking a large batch of some grain (rice, farro, quinoa) once a week and keeping it in the fridge, then just heating up what we need for a meal. It sometimes means we have stir fry over quinoa or some other slightly off combination, but it does make it convenient.
My mom and I talked about him using Uber and he previously dismissed that as a "taxi."
I tried to talk to my mom a few years ago about using taxis or Uber, when we were trying to figure out how she could cut expenses. She totally rejected the idea of using a taxi. I never understood why.
collard greens!
I love collards! But only when made completely unhealthy by cooking the bejesus out of them with plenty of bacon and onions.

I'm trying a new recipe that called for a smoked turkey leg. I think I used ham or bacon the last time I made them.
