Happy First Weekend Of October, dear Ooos!

I hope that all of you got to sleep late this morning and had a lazy cup of coffee and breakfast. (I know only a few of you could do that, but I can still hope!). Me-- I woke up a little before 5, heard the coffee pot beep soon after, and rolled out of bed. I have to be out of the house around 8.30 or so and have to have coffee and time here before I can begin my day. It's the only way to get started on the right foot. :D

I got to help out with the trebuchets yesterday! Up close, they aren't as big as I thought-- still about 6' high and they fling the pumpkins pretty darn far. What we do for the field trips is the kids get to pick out a small pumpkin and decorate or carve it. Then, it gets loaded into the trebuchet basket, they pull a string that releases the pin, and whooooosh! Even at my age, I have to admit was a lot of fun! We went over a few of the games that we lead- also a lot of fun. I knew a few from previous sessions but a couple of new ones too. We literally play the games as part of the prep and seeing a bunch of adults running around the field is too funny.
I stuck around for Dirt Time after training was over. I have talked about the Trailbound Project before, the Org that holds the courses and hikes as Weis. They are also very community-oriented and host "Dirt Time" once a month. They start a fire and go over some hiking and backpacking skills, check out gear etc. Then they order pizzas for everyone. I asked them to try out their Epipen trainers, just in case I need to use one on the little boy in HS. Please no :praying2: -- but better to be prepared. I hung out for a little while, practiced a couple of knots (I am terrible at knots), had some pizza, and came home with campfire smoke in my hair :D

I am heading out for a hike this morning-- also with TBP- and my coworker Laney is helping out on it so I'll get to chat with her too. We are working together on Tuesday for HS and I'm going to be bugging her about any mushrooms we see today. Plus I am meeting my hiking buddy there too. I haven't seen her in months so it's going to be nice to catch up.

I started a page for the Poem challenge and hope to get that finished this afternoon. Vicky, the poem you picked is phenomenal- so many delightful possibilities.

Have a wonderful day!

he trouble is at this time of year once those floodgates are open they usually don't close until spring. However the weather has been really crazy these past few years, so who knows it could be a very sunny fall/winter. Another earthquake here on the island, not very big 3.5 I think and no I did not feel a thing. Thats the second one in the past few weeks, hopefully the next one is not the big one!! Today my Gary will be underfoot, especially because it is a rainy day and he won't be outside puttering in the garden, but we will go after breakfast some time to look at a car he has he eyes on. Then I hope to spend the day doing some creative things.
Oooh boy, that's a crazy start to your day. I hope that the rains aren't too heavy/long. But at the same time, you need that moisture. Was the earthquake another quake or a strong aftershock? Last year, we had aftershocks for over a month and a few smaller quakes mixed in. Not that it makes a difference when you feel it!
What was the car like that your Gary wanted to see?
I am so happy that you have that kind of support at your work place too!! I know when things start to get too stressful in my life I have often thought of leaving the CT here, but how could I?? I love my O family and you all keep me grounded!!
Maybe it's a "getting older thing" but I have less and less tolerance for mean-spirited people, even if they are joking. I love the atmosphere at Weis because it is positive and helpful and respectful. Same here, love how this place lifts us all up. (PS: You'd better not leave the O! I'd :bawling: )

One of our granddaughters at the age of 6 or 7 was visiting (10 years ago now) and attended church with us before heading home with our son and DIL. As she was going out the door I said to her, "See you later, alligator!" She obviously had heard the reply before and knew part of the phrase but said....."after while....pause.....FROG!"
:rotfl: That is *adorable*!!!! What a sweet memory!
I'm sorry about the dental work and the cost :/
If I am having a bad day I am cheered up here. Like yesterday, I can safely say anything. The support here is out of this world!
I am sooo glad that you feel this way!
I am also really glad I can tease you about the gross pina coladas! :giggle4:
I'm sure that the person you were meeting for lunch didn't run away in fear. I think she backed away slowly out the door.

:exitroom:

@BrightEyes Hmmm...
Before she arrived, I stripped the bed and turned the mattress
What's wrong with this picture? :thinking2:
:rotfl:
I go through this with my parents-- they do stuff *before* I get to their house, things that I could have done in no time and with no concerns of hurting myself. (Ok-- *small* concerns of hurting myself. :p)
*fingers and toes are crossed that you get good weather for the balloons!

Well, you know, I spit in the sink yesterday to check my DNA, it turns out I'm 99.9% minion. It explains some of my nonsensical babbling.
OMG!!! LOL!! Was your spit yellow too?
Good job getting to the gym and high fives for staying on the elliptical that long!! :wehaveawinner:

@mimes1 That is super cool that your sister is on a balloon team. And how neat will it be if Kay gets to see it!
I missed the discussion about if Penguin's have knees, but next time you wake up at 3 am trying to figure it out, you can go back to sleep - because they do! :sleeping2::floorlaugh:
Whew! ONE less thing for me to worry and wonder about! Bwuhahahah!!! :lol23:

@BoatLady hope you are having a safe and relaxing trip!

I feel like I bounced around a lot-- I hope I didn't miss anyone.
:hug4: to all of you!

Sounds like training was nothing but fun! And sounds like you are going to have a great day outdoors! I hope so, anyway! Praying for no injuries!

Thanks! I LOVE that poem! I knew it would be the perfect poem for that challenge and that EVERYONE would be able to use something from it! Can't wait to see your page!

Good Morning,
Not sure at all what will be happening today. Depends on what Mark wants to do. He mentioned once about maybe taking a morning bike ride, but nothing so far about it. I'm fixing blueberry muffins for our breakfast as we speak.
Got all the laundry done yesterday, so that is out of the way.
If we don't go anywhere I will probably work on the transfer of pics some more. But I want to do some scrapping, too. Leftovers are basically what the menus for the weekend will be so I don't have to worry about that.
Here's hoping everyone has a great weekend! Ours Saturday looks to be sunny! But still a high in the low 80's! I am waiting on the highs of 70's!
:bye2:

This made me laugh. :coffeescreen: Thankfully she didn't run for the door and yes, you can tease me about gross pain coladas. They were bad bad bad :floorlaugh:

Today is work. I'm not looking forward to it. Its rainy (again) and dreary and I'm counting down the days until I am done. I dont know if I mentioned I have put in my notice and I will be done at the end of the year.

Off to get more coffee and look at amazing layouts.

I slept in until 8:30AM for some reason. I didn't miss the balloon launch... they were a bit late starting. There is a light haze this morning. But they were launching so I saw some of it on live TV. The balloons did not come my way so no photos.

Been busy this AM... finally got a Challenge LO done - #2 Poems and Lyrics. Golden Season by et designs jumped into my cart as soon as I saw it this morning. The LO just flowed together... love when that happens.

I have to do the laundry this morning and that may take all day to get it done. The hamper is over-flowing. HAGD

Mark and I got up leisurely, then went into town, got a coffee, then walked around town in area's we've never been. Our town is totally walkable. We walked over 3 miles. Then I did laundry and housework all afternoon, and now I get to scrap. I'm really excited about Rjeffries new collection Lumen. I'm going to play with that as soon as possible.

Oh - we finally called our mover friend today. We're going to make the switch to what was my mom's room. It's been 7 months, we had the student in there all summer, it's got new paint and floors, so we called. We don't have a date, but probably Friday. That will give us time to watch the videos on how to move our sleep number bed. We measured all the furniture and have a plan for what goes where. Mom's room is 2 feet smaller than ours, and our furniture is 2 feet bigger than hers! So we had to give it all some thought, and honestly, I already know that some of it will go away. I'm in a minimalist phase at the moment, and we don't need all this stuff! And, I'm excited that I will be getting my Grandfathers secretary desk. It's at my brothers now, but we have to move the China Cabinet in the dining room to make room for the secretary, and the movers can do that too. So we are in process of slow growth and moving forward.

Also - a funny story. I've been sitting here in my chair for a while now, happily scrapping away. I got distracted by my phone and started watching a reel. Mark is across the room watching TV ... with his head phones on ... for a while now. And all of a sudden he hollers "What's that!!" Made me jump out of my seat - he literally didn't know I was in the room, but heard my phone. (remember he has headphones on!) and called out to me thinking I was across the house and something was wrong! And I'm right here the whole time!! So now I told him that when I'm in my chair, with my back turned to him, I can cease to exist. That means extra scrapping time, right? The whole exchange was really funny.

Ok - Off to bed I go - hope you all have a good rest of your night!

@mimes1 That's funny how Mark scared you and had no idea you were there!!! Hope youre heart rate slows enough to sleep.

I went to scrap last night and my computer wouldn't let me do anything. "Scratchdisk is full" is all it kept telling me. UGH! So I looked at what could be deleted. Well, hubs phone back up DUH! So he's going through growing pains of d/l iTunes to backup his phone so I can delete the backup I have from '21. So can I delete my downloaded kits? I have them on two different EHD and I use the EHD to scrap. I dont use the ones on my laptop. I'm scared to delete anything cause what if. But I have also saved all my O zip files. They're also on two different hard drives. What do you do? I need to free up space as I cant scrap at the moment! o_O

Is it the computer scratch disk or the PSE? There is a setting that will tell Adobe how much it can use. I had to adjust it a long time ago and never had problems since. Stand by and I'll see where it is and send you a screen shot.

Go to your preferences and look at Memory Usage - you can adjust the percentage of memory that you allow PSE to use. That might help. As for the scratch disk, that also is in preferences. You can check it and it will tell you how much disk space is available, and it also gives you the option to change the scratch disk to a different drive. I believe that means you could hook up an EHD and tell that to be your scratch drive and it would have all the room in the world. For me, my hard drive currently has 66GB available - but my EHD has 2241 GB. Check that before you delete anything.

Okay, gonna have to try and find all this and see. My hard drive has 1.4 GB at the moment. Gonna see what I can do.

I'm not finding memory usage or how to adjust the scratch disk. I am on a Mac.

I don't know Mac but in PC you go to the menu bar across the top to Edit > Preferences > Memory Usage. or Scratch Disk. Not sure if it's similar for Mac or not. If it comes to adjusting the scratch disk on a mac you'll need to get someone way smarter than me to help. Far be it from me to mess up your computer for good!

Yeah, YouTube isn't super helpful either. I can find scratch disk in PSE but I cant see the EHD. its not listed. I cleared the cache. Now I am at a stand still. You need to go to bed though. Its way late :giggle4:

I had an amazing day yesterday so the piles of papers and things left on my To-Do list can be dealt with another day.

Reality check: That day is *today* whether I like it or not. But still, it felt great to enjoy yesterday from start to finish. The hike was incredible. It was the perfect weather- a little cold to start but we warmed up in no time. The first stop was to hike down to the reservoir which you can see is quite low. All of that grass should be underwater.

1728214398622.png
Then we turned around and went up to this "secret sculpture trail." No one knows who placed it there or who maintains it but there are all of these metal sculptures in a loop at the top. It's an unmarked trail so it was pretty cool that we got to see it with the group. The group was a good size about 20 people and everyone is just super nice. Two of my coworkers were there as well as two women I had met in the Women in the Wilderness course. And of course my hiking buddy, Stephanie :) She convinced me to sign up for another guided hike in November. better check my cold weather gear out soon.

I had planned to tidy the house, mostly this mess on my desk, and then scrap the rest of the day. Caitlyn wanted to start a new puzzle since she hadn't had time to do any in months, so I bailed on the housework. Gary even joined us for a good chunk of time.
I had a half hour to work on my challenge LO and it is 95% done. I'll finish and upload that today.

I am working the next 4 days plus I have medical appts on Wed and Thursday so I have a pretty busy stretch. That means I need to get as organized as I can today, including coming up with a meal plan. Blech!
If we can get it together, we will do some Halloween decorating. Gary is not into it at all this year, but I can't *not* have the house spookified. Braxton would have my head! (And then he would look like Linguine O'Brien :glowskull: :glowskull: )

Not sure at all what will be happening today. Depends on what Mark wants to do. He mentioned once about maybe taking a morning bike ride, but nothing so far about it.
Did you end up on a ride? I am super jealous of everyone who still has summer temperatures but at least we haven't had to turn the heat on yet. Although that is coming soon.

I am both happy for you and bummed about this. I might be making assumptions but I wish you were leaving work because you had plenty of money and wanted to live like a wealthy retiree. I am guessing it is more that your body is refusing to cooperate and you'll be having surgeries. My happy part is that I'm glad that you won't be fighting your body as you try to heal. Sad that the reasons are due to your health. :hug3:

It must be bittersweet as you prep the move into your mom's room.

YES! Had a wonderful ride! Not a cloud in the sky! But we didn't start out until about 5 and it takes an hour to get to the restaurant, so by the time we ate and got ready to head back we had to put our jackets on! That ride back made me get my gloves when we got home and throw them in the bike trunk along with a knitted neck warmer (my mind is blank on the word I want to use, lol!)......I just remembered.....cowl!

Good morning!
Waiting on my turn for the shower so thought I would pop in and say hello!
I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 3:30 for the potty and could NOT go back to sleep. So at 4:00 I got up and decided I might as well do some more picture transfers from CD to EHD. I got quite a bit done, too! But today is going to be a loooooong day! But, on the plus side, I should sleep good tonight!
Persnickety has their HUGE sale on this weekend, so later on this afternoon I plan to do some more pre-buying at the low price. Then I can take my time on uploading my pages to them to be printed! Love their quick turn-around on their processing!
Mark and I did go on a bike ride yesterday. We decided to wait until he finished working in the woods and mowing the grass. So we left here around 5 and got back around 8. Not a cloud in the sky and perfect temperature going. We did have to put our jackets on coming back. It was a great ride!
OK, I need to get off here and get ready for church!
Have a great day!

:hug3:
Chris I wish I could say yep, its cause I am rich and dont need it but you are right. Mostly quitting for surgeries. Also a lot of other things. Little things. Its been almost 25 years of working Saturdays. I quit in 2020 and went back in 22 when my replacement quit. I shouldn't have gone back. The money is nice but mentally I was done and should have stayed done. And for whatever reason they seem to be asking me to work LOTS of extra now that I put my notice in :giggle4: Its just hard to sit for 7-8 hours and my feet down, they swell, then my hips hurt from sitting in the chair. My body is more done then me mentally but it is time.

Today should be slow. Nothing planned but to delete hubs phone backup now that its on his computer. Then I can scrap. Its been hard the last two nights to try and I cant do anything. Need to pop over and ask the Mac Wizard in the other threads. But at least deleting the phone backup will help.

Needing more coffee. See you all this afternoon!

Morning, all. No balloons coming into the neighborhood. The winds are sending them north and east of my area. Hope they come this way one of these days. My grandson stopped over this morning for a quick visit and a cup of coffee. He works running pick-ups items for others and was in between orders. I will be getting him to clean up my yard once all the leaves have fallen. They are late falling this year as it has stayed hot longer than usual. Will be hotter than normal until around Oct 17th.

Have a mammogram in the morning tomorrow so won't be in here until later.

Kay @BrightEyes I was just thinking about the balloons. I do hope the winds change so you can see some of them. I'm working on a LO right now about that very thing. My DD Steph was driving home from work in St. Louis the other evening and there were several balloons in the sky. She pulled over and got some great shots for me. Not like Alburquerque but darned exciting anyway.

Good luck in the morning. Hugs
