Happy First Weekend Of October, dear Ooos!
I hope that all of you got to sleep late this morning and had a lazy cup of coffee and breakfast. (I know only a few of you could do that, but I can still hope!). Me-- I woke up a little before 5, heard the coffee pot beep soon after, and rolled out of bed. I have to be out of the house around 8.30 or so and have to have coffee and time here before I can begin my day. It's the only way to get started on the right foot.
I got to help out with the trebuchets yesterday! Up close, they aren't as big as I thought-- still about 6' high and they fling the pumpkins pretty darn far. What we do for the field trips is the kids get to pick out a small pumpkin and decorate or carve it. Then, it gets loaded into the trebuchet basket, they pull a string that releases the pin, and whooooosh! Even at my age, I have to admit was a lot of fun! We went over a few of the games that we lead- also a lot of fun. I knew a few from previous sessions but a couple of new ones too. We literally play the games as part of the prep and seeing a bunch of adults running around the field is too funny.
I stuck around for Dirt Time after training was over. I have talked about the Trailbound Project before, the Org that holds the courses and hikes as Weis. They are also very community-oriented and host "Dirt Time" once a month. They start a fire and go over some hiking and backpacking skills, check out gear etc. Then they order pizzas for everyone. I asked them to try out their Epipen trainers, just in case I need to use one on the little boy in HS. Please no -- but better to be prepared. I hung out for a little while, practiced a couple of knots (I am terrible at knots), had some pizza, and came home with campfire smoke in my hair
I am heading out for a hike this morning-- also with TBP- and my coworker Laney is helping out on it so I'll get to chat with her too. We are working together on Tuesday for HS and I'm going to be bugging her about any mushrooms we see today. Plus I am meeting my hiking buddy there too. I haven't seen her in months so it's going to be nice to catch up.
I started a page for the Poem challenge and hope to get that finished this afternoon. Vicky, the poem you picked is phenomenal- so many delightful possibilities.
Have a wonderful day!
