Dang, the temps have fallen off a cliff this morning. 45* F and I can't get warm. God help me in the middle of January when this feels like a heatwave.

What. A. Day. Yesterday was OFF THE RAILS! Not even close to being *near* the rails. heh. My entire family is a bunch of political/news junkies so each time we saw each other, we had info and updates. Each of us did keep one foot in reality so that's good. Gary's friend works in an IT dept and in charge of getting decommissioned equipment. He sent Gary an FM Transmitter so now Gary has Boo Frighters music playing on a radio frequency that people can hear when they are outside our house. Scott and my FIL had plans to go to a shooting range so they met down at ILs, FIL went through all of the safety stuff, they picked out a few handguns to bring, and he spent an hour teaching Scott how to safely shoot.
On the one hand, I hate this, I hate guns, I hate the US gun culture. OTOH, if anyone is going to do a good, solid job of teaching Scott safely, it is my FIL. He is an (ex)Marine (yeah no such thing as an ex, once a Marine, always a Marine) and has been licensed forever. I gave myself some huge pats on the back for not freaking out and supporting him. I am also super grateful to Scott for understanding and accepting that I won't have handguns in the house. He is getting a firearms permit and would like eventually to get a handgun license but it is really difficult to get one in NJ.
Gary kept working on the decorations outside and between the music and the lights, the band is looking good!
Cait had a meeting with her team even though it was technically her day off. I worked on a puzzle for a bit when I needed a break from cleaning up my fonts. Such a mess, I have no idea where a ton of them came from. I would never have downloaded some of them so they must have come with a program? Some I *know* that I deleted so I can't figure out how they reinstalled. There has to be an answer and I guess I don't care enough to figure it out. haha!!

My hip is finally feeling a bit better. Caitlyn wants everyone to go into the attic today and spend some time cleaning it. My areas are already tidied. Sure, they could use some work but not worth it for me to use the attic stairs. If they want to bring the boxes of Halloween decorations down, I will be happy to unpack them so we can decorate. I was teasing the kids that we can't decorate until my hip is all better. Tradition is that we put on a spooky soundtrack CD and we all have to dance to The Time Warp together. :p

My ILs might be coming up at some point today too. Caitlyn's sewing machine is giving her trouble so MIL wants to take a look at it.

Any fun plans for you?

have a fab day!!

Trudy- I am biting my tongue so hard with the news. Looks like it is a strong possibility that the nomination ceremony for RBG's replacement with a woman who is anti-Roe and anti-ACA is a superspreader event. Pro-life my a**. Whoops, looks like I need to bite harder. :tape:
Did your Gary actually rest and relax yesterday or was he busy doing work around the house?
The rooster is cute, how funny in a sad way that he got kicked out of the coop. :(

Jean- how is your DH doing today? I hope that everything went well. The drawing of Rita is so cool!! I can't wait to show Scott.
I had two spider incidents yesterday, but the one at dinner startled the you know what out of me. We were sitting down to dinner, I sprinkled some cheese on my pasta and a spider ran across my plate! I jumped back a mile! As soon as I saw him, then I laughed and talked to my spider friend while Scott trapped him and brought him outside before W could eat him. He cracked me up when he remarked that it doesn't matter how much you like spiders but when you see a spider running towards you unexpectedly- you jump. This spider was less and an inch so a big difference than Rita, but still! haha!!!
I really can't wait to see the progress of your Rita!!

Sharon- yup, ITA with your sentiment.
I hope that your DD gets to come home for the holidays. It must have been nice to be able to see your dad even though it is difficult to get there. Teething... I don't miss those days! How big is he now, is he catching up in his weight?

Hugs!!

Good Morning everyone! Smokey and foggy again this morning. Hopeful that it will all clear up soon! DH and I got out for a nice long walk and will try to get out for more of a hike today! I got my groceries and probably should have ordered a turkey, but I am still not sure what we will be doing for Thanksgiving yet. Our Thanksgiving in :canada: is on the 12th so its coming up soon! I picked up some eggs that my sister dropped off to my other sister's place for me. I met up with my friend who also sells Norwex for a bit too and we had a nice social distant chat. She was picking up her cat from the Vet so we chatted in the parking lot and soaked up some warm sunshine. DH kept himself busy while I was out cutting the front lawn and doing a few other things outside. We had a great evening sitting on the deck and lit the firepot and talked late into the night. It is so nice to have these kind of evenings with great conversation and not just falling asleep in front of the TV LOL.

Chris - I am so glad to hear that your hip is starting to feel much better! Good plan to not do the stairs going into your attic! I am sure that it is concerning for you that Scott wants to get a handgun. I am so totally against guns and even though my DH was a police officer he never brought his gun into the house :nono: it was not allowed!! Our son used to go hunting with my DH and I was so happy when they stopped doing that!! Neither one of them wants to go hunting ever again. Sure hope that you MIL can help Cait out with the sewing machine! Strange that all those fonts re-installed, hope that you can figure out why! I would have freaked out if a spider ran across my dinner plate :fear: :spider: Thank god it wasn't Rita!!! Have fun listening to your spooky soundtrack and unpacking your Halloween decorations!

Jean - Oh my gosh I just love, love your drawing of Rita!! Can't wait to see the finished product! Hope that your DH is doing well and that you get the info that you need from him. Thanks so much for the nice compliments on my turtle painting and card! I am really enjoying the cardmaking, but think I will take a break from the turtle paintings for a bit LOL. Hope that you are enjoying a lovely weekend!

Sharon - I do hope that your DD is able to come home for a visit soon! You must miss her very much! I know that I sure miss my kids, but the cases of Covid are rising where they are so there won't be anyone going anywhere for some time yet. Ugh on the teething but I bet you are loving being able to spend so much time with your grandchild!

Wow the fog has really rolled in and now I can hardly see across the street. Oh forgot to say that our kids were supposed to be together for Thanksgiving at Heather's place, but now with the cases increasing and Covid hitting Sadie's school they think it best to stay home and not take the chance of possibly infecting anyone! Oh I sure hope that they can all stay healthy! Hurry up with the vaccine please!!! Hope that you all enjoy a nice Saturday!

This morning was a Zoom genealogy meeting and this afternoon we had a long call with DH's brother. Then we were just in time to watch the Preakness and see a filly win it. Always a fun result. DH is just fine now and hopefully test results will be too.

Chris, Gary's got things really going this year. Should be incredible. Hope the kids get the stuff out of the attic for you (yes, no reason to stress the hip!) Getting into the Halloween spirit could be some antidote to the state of the world. Sorry that Scott is into shooting. I've never had to deal with a family member having one where I was since my grandfather long ago. Nice to have the ILs visit and hope the sewing machine shapes up. Glad you like what I did with Rita. Not sure where I'll go from there. I'm so glad you provided the photos and the idea as she is fun to work with.

Trudy, what a shame the kids can't be together for the holiday but I'm sure you're glad they aren't taking any chances. I'm so out of tune with the seasons and time of year that it doesn't seem possible to be turkey time, even Canadian style. Couldn't it still be summer? Or March? Thanks for your comment on my drawing of Rita. I can easily believe you're tired of turtles, but even so the latest is one of my favorites.

Sharon, hope the teething isn't too bad as I know you enjoy the time with the grand.

Hope everyone has some good time for the weekend.

Happy Sunday!!!! My poor brain is resisting the calendar that shows it is Oct and fully into Autumn. My frozen fingers are yelling at me-- "It is bleeping cold!"

How was everyone's day yesterday? In case anyone was wondering if I was capable of keeping the news off, well- I sure don't need to answer that, do I?
I am happy dancing for my hip--only in my head *G*-- yesterday was the first day in a long time I didn't need any pain meds or ice/heat packs. My ILs came up in the afternoon just to check out Caitlyn's sewing machine and it was the first time people were in my house for more than a few minutes since March. The urge to run around cleaning was strong but I limited myself to disinfecting the bathroom and cleaning the counters in the kitchen. Not really by choice other than there no other areas in the house that are "cleanable" yet. Gary still has tools and materials everywhere.
My areas are clean and that is all I can do ATM.

Today I have a boatload of things I need to work on. This past week I slacked on everything so I need to catch up. At some point I need to get into the attic to bring down my warmer clothes.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing day!

Trudy- it is crazy that you are still getting so much smoke. Do you have any rain in the forecast to clear it out any time soon?
Your Thanksgiving is coming up fast. Do you think the weather will cooperate if you have family over outside? I don't even want to think about the holidays, it makes me really sad. That sounds so romantic for you and your Gary sitting out by the fire together. Enjoy the day with him again. You two are such a darn cute couple!
I am sorry that you kids won't be able to get together for the holiday too. Daily case averages have doubled in NJ in the past month and who knows what it going to happen with DT being here last Thursday. God only knows how many he and his staff infected. Is Sadie's school in-person or hybrid? Thank goodness that Canada doesn't have the same level of anti-maskers that we do here.
Speaking of Canada, my MIL posted this on her FB page...

I think it works for me- and this way you don't have to adopt me, unless you still want to, of course!! hahahaha!!!

Jean- It seems like you had a good day yesterday, is DH feeling better?
ITA, I think that once we get the Halloween stuff down it will make me happier and it will feel more like Autumn. Today is the Mourning Tea that my friend hosts every year and I declined. I am not comfortable being inside with other people, masks or not. But that was also a trigger in my head about the season change.
Scott is getting such a kick that you are drawing/painting Rita. She is pretty darn cool. If you need any other pics, just let me know.

Hope that everyone is OK, Nancy, sending you hugs and good thoughts.

Today's another football Sunday which is just as well as it's gray, damp and chilly out. We got to see the Browns defeat Dallas to go up to 3-1 and had our weekly popcorn. It still surprises me to get Amazon deliveries on Sunday, but my box of kitchen toys came during the game. My old kitchen scale broke and I ordered a new one along with three other implements, two replacements and a zester that I've never had but look forward to using. This cooking every night changes the importance of tools.

Chris, it is so nice to hear your hip quit hurting! But I'm really disappointed with that map as it leaves all of Ohio to red when the northern tier really doesn't (shouldn't?) fit. There is a watershed divide with the northern part draining into Lake Erie (and thus to Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Atlantic) while the rest drains south to the Ohio River, Mississippi and the Gulf. We sometimes think it divides more than that. Weather differs a bit too. I guess I'd need Trudy to adopt me too. :canada:

Hope everyone is well and busy.
