Daily Ooos: July 29-30: Weekend Edition

Can you believe it is the last weekend of July? It's odd because July didn't seem to go by very fast itself but the summer is zipping along. When the kids were in school, August seemed to be gone in the blink of an eye. No one has gone back to school in a while but the time still flies.
The weather didn't feel terrible yesterday even though the local weather said the Real Feel was 100*- I dunno, I didn't turn the AC on until 3 pm. I did my yard work before lunch and I was sweating my butt off outside but once I took a cool shower, I was fine. It's supposed to be the same weather today and should be much cooler tomorrow. My SIL is having a BBQ for my niece since she is going back to OK for vet school next week. Thankfully, the weather will cooperate. It's one thing to be sitting inside in the heat, quite another to be wearing "real" clothes and makeup in the sun.

No new news on Cait's house and Scott and Sam were not impressed by the apartment they looked at. It didn't even have an oven. Not that there wasn't an actual oven-- there was no room for an oven. I joked that I was happy to not lose both kids in the same time frame but that didn't amuse him. :/

I was able to get a LO of the butterfly uploaded yesterday. I read some info on butterfly identification and it was a Spicebush Swallowtail-- and a female at that. I couldn't have asked for a better palette than the Color Plays this month.

No big plans for today. I have to grab the ingredients I need to make Vegan Garlic Knots and "Cheesy" Dip to bring tomorrow. If they taste good, I am going to make another batch when we go to our neighbors for dinner on Tuesday. I still don't know how cashews are supposed to substitute for cheese but it's in all of the recipes.

I'm not sure why but it doesn't feel like a Saturday- feels more like a Sunday. But I am absolutely sure it is Saturday and you all (other than Cheryl) can back me up :giggle4:

Love to you all!

I hope that I didn't come across too cranky in my post up there^^ I'm feeling a little cranky even though I have no reason to be.

Hmmmph, I do have a reason for being cranky. I just took the dogs out and there are so many lanternflies on my flowers. It really stinks that they are invasive and awful because they look so neat. We didn't have many last year but this year it's a lot worse so I start my days by whacking at them with a shoe. That definitely adds to the ick-factor too.

@BrightEyes Right?? Aren't Color Play days amazing? It sounds like you are just about back to your regular scrapping but it is smart to take breaks as you need them.

@vickyday How are you feeling today, is the funky mood any better? I sure hope so. Sending you big hugs~~~~

@Cherylndesigns The CP palette is perfect for your bright and cheerful photos!
LOL!! Yes, Cait and Tom are excited about Halloween :witch:. They figure that they can decorate for Halloween and no one will think twice about the new neighbors. Then they'll just leave a lot of the stuff out year-round *G*
I'm sure that you are happy having everyone back on the ranch-- Will everyone be hanging at the pool this weekend to catch up with each other?
Congrats on getting the days right too! whoooo hoooo!

Morning, all. Up early again this AM after a wild and wooly dream about driving my new car on a railroad track with a train coming up behind us fast!!! o_O:eek3:I really needed my :coffeedrinker:to chase that nightmare away. Have a couple of errands to run this morning before it gets too hot. Need some fruit and veggies as I used most of them up this past week. I chopped up the last of the lettuce 2 days ago for a large chef salad that I enjoyed on Thursday and Friday. Even with the A/C on, it has been too hot to cook. They say the Monsoon rains may finally arrive next week and that should bring the temps from the 100's down into the 90's.

@faerywings Sorry the apartment that Scott looked at wasn't what they needed... can't believe it didn't have an oven or space for it, either!! I know you will feel like an 'empty-nester' if both of the kids move out at the same time.

Time to get dressed and get out before it gets too hot! HAGD

Good morning ladies. Darrell should be coming home today but we're not sure until the doctor sees him later. I had to bring him to the hospital yesterday morning and he had surgery late last night (again, it was another fistula). Jen didn't really want to celebrate her birthday yesterday (its a hard celebration for her b/c it was always a big deal to Bailey) and didn't want to eat the cake I had bought b/c of the carbs. She is working hard on losing the weight she had gained since last year and I'm happy for her, it is a very positive thing for her to work on. So I ended up watching a few tv shows, texting with D while he waited for surgery and I ate a big piece of the chocolate cake. I don't mind a few carbs here and there so I enjoyed it.

What is it about aussies that they feel the need to pull of pillows and blankets from furniture? As I'm typing this, I am watching Remi throw off D's afghan from his chair and next she'll go over to the couch and pull the pillows out from under Taz (who lays on them) to throw them around the living room floor. She does this all the time. Or she will pull the big blanket out at the corner of the couch and then crawl up inside it, completely hidden except for a big bulge sticking out with her body, then she softly whines as to say "come find me".

@faerywings Weird about the apartment not having space for an oven. Fingers still crossed for C&T getting the house.

I'd better get outside with Remi, she is pawing at me and giving me kisses. I can't say no :) HAGD everyone.

Good Saturday Morning to all!
Feeling better today. I've been bird-watching, baking, mixing, and washing clothes. Mark is in the woods and I suspect he'll be back for more water sooner rather than later. It's just a bit cooler today, but not much.
I did start a bike page last night but didn't get very far. I want to finish it and work on more. No other plans.
HAGD!

Good afternoon, all. Yes, the ranch is alive again - Alyssa came to visit for awhile before she had to go to work. Braden and two of his friends popped in last night to say hello. Roger will be back later on this afternoon. Chris @faerywings I'm sure there will be some pool time involved this weekend. Today is Ali's birthday and she and her new boyfriend are going to be there for sure. I haven't met him yet, but Adrienne really likes him. Her last two turned out to be duds. I really liked the last one, but I guess he was good at putting on a show. It ended badly. We're hoping she can find someone - she wants to settle down one of these days.

That's so weird about NO stove. I've never heard of such a thing in an apartment. Maybe in a cabin in the woods, but not an apt. Of course, I would just say "well, now there will be no cooking". Hahaha Your vegan dishes sound good - is your niece a vegan or are you making them for Tom? No, I don't like to have to be outside in the summer, either. It's too darned hot to sit around talking in this heat.

Vicky @vickyday glad you're feeling better today and you too, Chris @faerywings. Kay @BrightEyes stay cool and Rae @bcgal00 I didn't know that D had to have surgery late last ight. Hope he gets to come home today. Good news about Jen, too, that she's starting to care about her weight. Good sign. Every dog we've ever had knocks the throw pillows off the furniture. I don't know why, but they just don't like them - they must get in the way of where they want to lay.

HAGD everybody and today is SATURDAY.

Aaaaaaannnnd, just like that *snaps fingers* -- I am back to complaining about being cold. :brrr:
Nothing like going from Real Feels of near 100* to 57* in less than 12 hours. My BIL/SIL could not have picked a better day for their party which is good because I am hopeful that Gary will be able to make it. I know he is planning on it but the heat really gets to him and messes his blood sugar up something awful.

How was everyone's Saturday?
It was quiet here, Caitlyn was with her friends and Scott was dog-watching at my BFF's and going to work from there. Gary and I got out to the grocery store very early - I needed him to carry the bag of dog food at Tractor Supply- and I started on the Garlic Knots and Cheesy Dip when I got back. I just took the dough out of the fridge and will bake the knots so they are fresh this morning.
[What in the world did we do before Google??? I wasn't sure how to warm the dip once we got to the party, one second on Google and now I know. It's a freakin' miracle]

I couldn't sit at my computer all day -- just impossible for me- so after I caught up on the laundry, I went outside and trimmed the weeds long from the walkway, did a bit of dead-heading, and tried to kill a bunch of lantern flies. They are everywhere this year and I'm shocked that there isn't any way to kill them en masse. They can spray for mosquitos but not these buggers. pfft. It upsets me that they love all of the same plants that my bees and butterflies do. Not that I would get rid of my flowers but still- I wish they'd leave me alone :flyswatter:

Do you have lanternflies where you are?

I got a couple of pics of a monarch butterfly yesterday too, I should try to get another page scrapped with them. And I saw the hummingbird again too!

gotta go-- Jaida wants to go outside BRB!

@BrightEyes woah! That's a crazy dream about being on the railroad tracks with a train coming. Your heart must have been pounding when you woke up. All fingers and toes are crossed that the rains bring some cooler temps soon.
I've been making salads with dinner almost every night and I am enjoying them a lot. Sam is a good influence, she tries to get Scott to eat a lot more veggies and she is rubbing off on me too.

@bcgal00 What a week you have been having- lots of hugs coming your way. Is D back home? Is it common that he gets fistulas one after the other like this? Crohn's is autoimmune, IIRC, is there something triggering it? I'm sorry, I always have nosy questions :(
Big hugs to Jen too, please let her know that I'm thinking of her.

As for Aussies and the blankets, I don't know for sure but I bet it has to do with being a working breed. OTOH, W does that same thing with the blankets and pillows on the sofa when we watch TV. It's a running joke that she literally steals my blanket and spends all of her energy into making a fort out of it, then plops down with a huge sigh. I try to give her her own blanket or share it with her, but nope. She is most definitely not an Aussie but we say that she is part kangaroo because of the way she jumps. Maybe that is the connection? :floorlaugh:

@vickyday It sounds like you are feeling much better, I'm so glad to hear that!

And all is right with the world ♥
As for exes putting on a good show - yup, BTDT :crying1:
The apt Scott and Sam looked at was a studio in a multi-family house, very tiny. They think that they are just going to save up and buy something together, rather than rent. They aren't in any rush and no talk of marriage, so they are doing their own thing and that is good.
My niece is a full-on meat eater which seems odd to me since she is going to be a vet. In my mind, I have a hard time thinking about meat other than it comes wrapped in plastic. That's it. It was formed spontaneously, wrapped in plastic, ready to be sold. That's my story and I am sticking to it. :lalala:
I am making the vegan rolls/dip so Tom has something to eat. I know my SIL is really good about having vegan options for him but I like to have something just in case.

:soapbox: Interrupting for a small rant because I have to get this off of my chest. And maybe I am the one who is blowing it out of proportion. (I know I am to an extent). Tom's b-day was last Sunday and his mom had his family for a get-together at her house. There are differences in how we treat family in general- to each their own and I know I tend to go above and beyond what is normal. Some may call it smothering. LOL There were a few small things Caitlyn mentioned that bugged me-- like they didn't let Tom cook his "hot dogs" on the grill first so he had to microwave them. But the thing that really bugged me is that the b-day cake wasn't vegan. His sister brought some pastries for him but the cake... he couldn't eat it.
I dunno, maybe IATA in Reddit-speak but I was really hurt for him. I said that to Cait and I ended up putting my foot in my mouth b/c that is her future MIL. I apologized for what I said but I still feel the same.
Thanks for listening, I need to get a handle on this because Cait is right and I shouldn't get in the middle.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Good morning ladies. I am off to the dog park in a few minutes, Remi needs some exercise. She kept wanting to wrestle and play with Taz last night so I had to keep shushing her b/c they start the excited loud barking which we try to curb in the evening, training them for "quiet time". But it was obvious that she has pent up energy and needs to get it out. So, in a minute I will throw on some jeans and head over to the park for 30 minutes of intense running (she chases the ball launcher at warp speed). Then I can come home, shower, get more coffee and relax. I want to get a page scrapped.

I have been feeling off. I was extremely tired last night and the pain from the lesions on my side are quite uncomfortable, more painful than itchy now. I think it might be shingles but if so, a light case as I only have five lesions. It's been about 10 days. They crusted over but no new lesions have developed. I don't know if that is what is causing the burning sensation in my arm or not but I suspect that is a different thing (maybe hormonal or a pinched nerve or something). Using Google doctor is iffy so all my prognoses may be wrong. The headache is probably glaucoma related but who knows. It really sucks to not have medical care here. Even if I was able to get through at 7 a.m. to the clinic message center, the few spots they book per day fill up so quickly and then that's it, you try each morning, every morning, until some day you get through and get a call back to book an appt. Because I have numerous things going on, they are not going to have time to care for me, I think we get just a few min per patient so its doubtful they can diagnosis much of anything. They are only good if you have an obvious problem that they can treat in a few min.

The real estate market is terrible, interest rates are high but Jen and I will try to impress upon D in the spring when we get back from our South America trip that we should make an effort to sell the house and move to Alberta where the medical care is better. If the house doesn't sell then at least we know we tried and we will stay here.

We're going out for dinner tonight for D's birthday (his is today) and for Jen (hers was 2 days ago). Friends are coming along too.

@faerywings That sucks about Tom's family. Good thing he is marrying into your family :)

@vickyday Yum...blueberry and lemon, my favorite combo.

Remi is staring at me, time to go :) HAGD everyone.

Woke up this morning thinking it was Monday... Had to look at the calendar to realize it was Sunday. Should have known as my week's pillbox was empty.

I talked to Sister on the phone yesterday... almost 2 hours of catching up on how her trip to the east coast went and to welcome her back to her home in Texas. We both were missing our 2-3 calls a week. Then made it to the store and got fresh fruits and veggies. I need to slice up the mini-watermelon today. My mouth is watering to have some! Caught a mark-down on some bagged mixed greens, salad mix and pre-made salads... so will be eating a lot of salads this week.

I spent some time yesterday afternoon sorting through Aunt Mary's photos and pulling out the ones when they lived overseas. Going to take a PJ day today and sort through them to see which ones I want to use for layouts. I will scan those so I can work on pages when I feel ready to tell those stories.

@faerywings - we don't have lanternflies here that I know about. Had to look it up on Google... but I did find this - maybe it will help you: "Lanternfly bugs can be easily killed using a mixture of dish soap. Dawn dish soap is effective at controlling these bugs though any brand of dish soap works."

@bcgal00 Hope you can convince hubby that selling and moving to a place that has better medical care is the thing to do.

@vickyday I am going to have to look up the recipe for the lemon-blueberry dessert... it sounds delicious. Hope you get some scrapping done, too.

Here is the recipe I sort-of use. Lemon Blueberry Trifle
I use cool whip instead of messing with making it.
Also, you can use sugar free ingredients......cool whip and instant lemon pudding.
I do make my own angel food cake. The box mix is half the price of the bakery cakes!
Also, I don't layer mine. I just tear up the angel food cake into a 13x9 dish (1 mix instead of 2) and layer the pudding mixture on top. I add a layer of cool whip on top and then sprinkle the blueberries.

Good afternoon all.

I spent part of my afternoon in the pool yesterday. It was just Adrienne, Roger, Aly and me so it was very relaxing. We all floated around in the pool and didn't want to get out. They're already cooking up today's pool party and there will be more people there - some of them are very loud and they always bring their cooler of beer, so they get even louder. Adrienne just warned me they were coming, so I'll wander up there later on. We're having pizza about 6 and celebrating Aly's bd which was yesterday. Her bf was supposed to come, but he ended up having to go pick up his son, so I hope he'll be there today. Yes, "all's right with the world again". I sure missed all the activity. I love never knowing who's going to pop in. One of Braden's best friends, Jackson, came down yesterday to bring me something from Adrienne. He's a sweetie and it on the rance whenever B's around. He's been helping B mow the property. He went to Florida with Braden and Alyssa's BFF Sarah went also. So, it was very quiet around here.

I had a crazy dream last night! A 17 yo boy developed a crush on me and gave me a cheapie ring and wrote me a cheesy poem on the back of the envelope telling me hs was in love with me. Somebody told Chuck and when I got home, he was packing his bags and he left me. It was very real and traumatic! Not as bad as Kay's @BrightEyes train dream maybe but traumatic. I kept telling Chuck that he was just a kid and it didn't mean anything. Nothing worked - he walked out on me. Where does this stuff come from???

Chris @faerywings I don't understand why Tom's family won't fix vegan food/cakes/etc. for him either. It is what it is and he's a vegan, so they need to roll with that. I'm not a big meat eater either, and prefer not to think of where it comes from. I'll eat a burger every now and then, especially if they're cooked on a grill. Braden makes the best burgers, and I do love his. Adrienne and I always get cheese pizza and we like pineapples on ours. There's a local place where we get our pizzas and of course, the guys all want the meat lover's pizza.

I can't believe that it's July 30th. The summer is ticking away, guys. Chris @faerywings, the "weather faeries" are with you today for your outdoor BBQ. Hope Gary feels up to going - at least it won't be boiling hot.

Hope everyboy has a great Sunday and sending hugs to all.

I'm going to try this, Vicky. It looks delicious and easy. We don't make ours like this, but I think I'll try your recipe one of these days. We're lazy and use the store-bought angel food cake and just drizzle the pudding/cool whip mixture and berries over it.

There's no drizzling this pudding. It is mixed with cream cheese, so it is not drizzley! You could easily use it as the "icing" for the store-bought angel food cake, however! And, actually, THAT is a great idea that I think I will try the next time. I split my cake mix between 2 9x5 loaf pans and then cut it up! But, I think the next time I will make it in my bundt pan and use the pudding mix as icing and sprinkle the blueberries on top! Thanks for the idea!

Your recipe looks SO delicious, Vicky and sounds even better than ours. When my dad was alive, this was his favorite dessert. He loved angel food cake and anything we did to it.
