It's the weekend! Who is ready for some downtime? Me!
Wait, what is downtime?
My To-do List is just as full today as it is any other day. Or not full. Kind of like the glass being half full/half empty.

I cleaned most of the downstairs yesterday and vacuumed and mopped all of the floors. I used some free time in the afternoon to crochet a little more, I think I have the cowl pattern "right." For the first few rows, it was hard for me to see where the stitches and chain spaces were. I'm using a thinner yarn than I usually use, plus a smaller hook. Now that I have about 16-17 rows done I can "feel" the chain spaces. I know I messed up counting stitches because the sides aren't lining up identically but I hope that when I crochet the top rows, I can make it look more even. I *should* rip it out but I can't bring myself to start over again.

I wish the warmer temps could have lasted just one more day. We are back in the 30s and it's going to be cold waiting outside at the FP. But still, it's worth it. I was able to cook a pork tenderloin last night. That would have been out of the budget if I hadn't gotten it the month before. I hope they have Beyond Burgers again. Caitlyn will be happy and they are actually really good. I can't/won't eat beef but I miss a good burger occasionally. They are very close to the real thing.
On my way home from the FP, I am stopping in at the new food store to pick up a cake or dessert for my mom tomorrow. I was only in it once before but if it is going to be successful, the town has to shop there. We are famous for complaining that we only have one grocery store, never shop there or complain that they are more expensive, they go out of business and we go back to complaining that we have only one grocery store.
I hope that I can get my photo order from Walgreens today, it was supposed to be ready in one day. It's currently "Processing."

That's it, have a fantastic weekend!

@Betty Jo You know I am still sending you big hugs, the last few months have been a nightmare for you. Hope that the weather warmed up more but just about anything is better than 4*!!
Thank you soooo much (this is to everyone who commented) about the Lo of Scott and Sam. Aren't they cute together? They seem to be in a good place with each other. Scott told me the other day one of his friends saw their exes post a picture of themselves on IG and he felt "nothing." Nothing good or bad, just shrug-- nothing. That's a big step since he (we) were all very, very angry for so long.

@LSlycord Linda, your new avi looks adorable!! Love how cute you look in short hair! Poor Hayden, bet she looks silly being all shaved down. But more comfortable, I am sure.

@BrightEyes sending you love, hugs, and support this weekend. ♥

@bcgal00 Good luck getting everything straightened out with your pension/banking

@Cherylndesigns Yay for the new phone!!! We started the new carrier discussion last night. We had Sprint which got taken over by T Mobile and we hate it. They are charging us for two lines that we keep telling them to cancel. We are looking at Verizon but it's all so confusing to me. Anyway-- I am excited about you getting a new phone!!
When we were kids, my mom cut my brother's hand with her wedding ring playing Spoons-- it's a literal bloodsport!

@vickyday I feel awful for my kids and al of them in this generation, Cait has a really good salary and between saving for the wedding and a house, she doesn't think she can do it. There aren't any wedding venues that are even semi-affordable and houses-- it's bonkers. We bought this house as a fixer-upper in 1995 and it was $117,000. It's listed on Zillow market value of $350,000. We couldn't afford to buy this piece of crap right now.
Hope you had a nice relaxing afternoon scrapping or crocheting, maybe even both :D

@tanteva big hugs!! If it makes you feel better and cheers you up, feel free to roast me about anything and everything. As if you need my permission! LOL!
The poncho is very pretty!
We liked iZombie for the first few seasons, she does a great job becoming the different characters

she does a great job becoming the different characters

She's amazing - such a talented actress. Staying in character, still becoming someone else in every episode, it's brilliant. I ended up watching til 3am. Had to pause in the middle of an episode, cuz I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Morning, all. I did manage to get the laundry sorted yesterday but still have 2 more loads to go to get it all done. Holding off on those two (dark heavy-weight one and the maroon one) as they are not full loads. I am wearing some dark heavy-weight clothes that will go into that pile tonight and plan on wearing maroon next. I managed to pick up the mail yesterday but just didn't feel up to running errands - they can wait until next week. I just glanced at the outside temp display and almost choked on my coffee... it said 51*F outside! Then glance at the computer display that said 27*F.... Checked the new display in the kitchen and it said 26*F. Guess the old sensor needs new batteries as 51 was the high yesterday. I did remember to get batteries a couple of weeks ago.

Just popped in to check on the challenge I am hosting. Need to get through today and tomorrow (the anniversary of DH's death) and hopefully will be in a better frame of mind after that. CYL

Good morning ladies. Sydney was complaining about going back to school last night. But her phone was blowing up with kids asking when she would be back. Dorms open today at noon but she is staying tonight then heading back in the morning. I will be sad but we have had such a good break and I have been so lucky to have time off during that time. And I am so happy that she has friends to go back to.

I don't think that there will be much on the docket today. Syd will probably spend most of her day getting packed up. I will spend most of mine sorting through more old photos. I also found a job that I want to apply for so I need to dust off the resume. And maybe do Chinese takeout for supper.

@BrightEyes ((hugs)) to you as you work through these next few days! Wish the 51* was real but glad you have new batteries at home and can take care of that. Thinking of you this weekend with much love!

@faerywings I am thinking good thoughts as you prepare for your mom's birthday celebration. The prices of homes are awful. I don't know how people do it when they are just starting out. I agree...so stressful for the generation that our kids are in. Even renting an apartment is almost impossible. Thanks for the comment on the avi!

@tanteva waving hello! Hope that you get to feeling better both physically and emotionally.

@Cherylndesigns I went from an iPhone XR to the iPhone 14 Pro. I love the camera. I have found the pictures to be quite good!

@vickyday I'm happy with the haircut. I think that it will be very nice to have it easy! Good luck with the cleaning to get ready for company. That's really something to look forward to.

@bcgal00 hope that the call to the government went better than mine. Still working on the Social Security stuff!

Ok...got to get a couple of layouts posted and then see what the day brings!

Good morning ladies. I got the address and bank change done with the government yesterday so that the cheques will go into our new bank out here rather than the old one in the lower mainland. We still have RRSP's and other accts there so as things come to term we will get them set up out here.

We finished The White Lotus yesterday. We were talking about it a few hours later when Jen came home. She had been waiting for us to finish the season so we could discuss. Can't wait to see what they do in season three.

I think I'll take the dogs up into the grasslands for a drive today and find an area for them to run around. I have to be careful where I let them out at because of the wildlife (coyotes, bobcats, lynx, etc). Mostly it is the coyotes we have to watch for. I still haven't seen a lynx yet but there is at least one in the park b/c lots of duck carcasses have been found which probably means they are back. Sometimes they aren't spotted until the end of the month, into Feb. I will be thrilled if I see one this year.

Today I'm making meatloaf and a mushroom gravy for dinner.

@faerywings I know what you mean about not wanting to rip out crochet/knitting and lose all the time already put into the pattern. I found the stitch counters/markers useful to use. It's been years since I did the hobby. I donated everything when we moved b/c I knew I'd never do it again.

@LSlycord I know you'll miss your daughter when she goes back to school but sounds like you had a wonderful holiday time with her.

@BrightEyes Hugs. Hope you get thru the next few days quickly. I am dreading the 21st this month as it will be the one year anniversary. If I didn't have the dogs that needed taking care of, I think I'd sleep the day away.

I want to get my CT stuff out of the way this morning and then get outdoors with the dogs. HAGD everyone.

Good evening. I just got a chance to get on here. Today is our usual "going out day" which we did. Adrienne, Ava and I went into town. Didn't do much damage but went to a couple of thrift stores and to that Vintage store that we love. Ava got the best candy - freeze dried Skittles. I didn't know it was a "thing". They have freeze dried everything in candy now. I tried a few and they're kind of like those merengue candy things that they always have in the lines at TJ Maxx. On our way home, we stopped at Taco Bell, and I got some of those cinnamon balls with the pudding inside for Chuck. Those are SO good. I didn't even know they had them until last Saturday night. I think they're Cinnabon, but I'm not positive. Roger wanted to swing through there and get some after we left the party. Haha Chuck and Roger both have a sweet tooth.

Yes, I love my new phone! I haven't had time to play with the lenses yet, but I'm sure my pictures will be even better than they were with my 11 Pro. Chris @faerywings it's so strange that you've having problems with T-Mobile. We've been with them since way before Sprint merged with them. We left Verizon due to their exorbitant prices and went to Sprint way back when we lived in Florida. At first, we had trouble getting a good signal, after we switched, and they sent us a booster, free of charge and really made our signal stronger. I was a little nervous when they merged with T-Mobile, but we've had great service. They even sent us new SIM cards for our phones and the switch was flawless. I truly believe that cell service depends on where you live. We can see the cell tower from where we live. That certainly helps us living out here in the middle of nowhere. Adrienne and Roger have AT&T and I don't think they're as happy as we are with T-Mobile. That guy, at the phone store, switched ALL of my stuff from my old phone to my new one and he didn't miss a thing. I have a LOT of stuff on my phones, too. Normally, I get home and they missed something, like a few contacts, but so far, I haven't found anything that didn't switch over.

Linda @LSlycord I was thinking you got the 14 Pro but wasn't sure. I loved my 11 Pro, so I'm sure the 14 will be even better. It will seem so quiet when Syd is gone, but I'm so happy that she's happy at school and it sounds like she has lots of friends there, if her phone is "blowing up". I don't have my phone case yet - I won't pay the phone store's high prices for one and have one coming from Amazon. I found a leopart/cheetah pop socket today to tide me over until next Tues. That phone is slick as it can be and I was afraid I was going to drop it. I found the pop socket today for 6 dollars and it's really helped. I've had one on my phone for years, and love them. Ava put in on the back of my phone as soon as we got in the car. When I get my case, I'll switch it over to that. They had one 14 Pro left in the store, and it was black, so I have my first black phone.

You girls talking about your crocheting projects makes me want to crochet again. Chris @faerywings I saw one of your comments about trying knitting one time and wanted to tell you that I tried it and I swear I had needles under my armpits. I gave up on learning to knit. Hahaha A few months ago, I bought a little crochet kit - it's a toy elephant and it has the yard, pattern and hook all in the package. It's still in the unopened package.

I'm going to go and finish a page that I started last night. It's for the fantasy challenge and I suck at that style. I'm probably going to go with what I have.

I hope everybody has a wonderful Saturday night and I'll pop back in tomorrow.
XOXO

I just ordered some photos from Target for 60% off $0.39. But since I don't live very close to a Target, I opted to have them shipped. That almost took care of the 60% off, LOL! I'll have to check out Walgreens next time!

Yeah, the house we bought for $25,000 back in 1985 was a fixer-upper but we didn't get much fixing-up done to it. We ended up selling it for $25,000 in 1997 just to be rid of it! Since we were moving into a parsonage with the move to WV we paid off some bills and bought new furniture for the first time ever since we got married in 1976!

Good Evening All,
I've been quite busy again today, but took it much easier than yesterday as I work up stiff from yesterday's cleaning frenzy! Today I did a lot of sorting, straightening, and pitching! It felt good! I think tomorrow afternoon I will start going through the bookcases and boxing up a bunch to take to the thrift. Back when DH#1 was still living, we went to the thrifts every Thursday. That was his day off and he loved it as much as I did! Mark....not so much, lol! Might be why I don't go anymore. Anyway, when Tim and I went I mostly went to the book shelves. I picked up sooooo many books that I just had to have! But I can probably count on both hands how many of those book I have actually read! I don't do much sitting and reading any more. I listen to audiobooks while I'm up and doing chores or traveling in the car. Anyway, those books have got to go! I've thought about listing them on Amazon, but I don't want the hassle of messing with them, LOL!

So, that is basically it for me. I signed out as MIA for next week so I can get everything finished for the kids coming. We are actually going to have the gathering at my daughter's house who lives 20 minutes from us. My oldest daughter and her family will spend Friday night and Saturday night at Ilene's house. My oldest son and his wife always stay in a hotel. My youngest son and his wife and daughter will stay here with us. I can't wait! Elisabeth and I finalized the menu today. Since everyone is at least 4 hours away (Jessica is 6 and Michael is 8) we take care of all of the food. I will gladly do that if they will come to me! ;) Lizzie agrees! So, if I don't get back to any personals next week you will know why!

Mark finished the walls of the cabin this week and finished one end up at the peak between the wall and the roof. He has to cut another tree and mill it before he can finish the other end and under the eaves. I bought clear shower curtains at Dollar General and he closed in the windows and the doors until he can do some more work down there.

Hope you all have a great weekend and week and I'll talk at you in a week, if not sooner! #kiss

Happy Sunday morning to everyone and a happy birthday to my mom!
I know I complain a lot about her but I love her very much. I just want her to be happy.

Poor Caitlyn was hoping to come to the FP with me yesterday but she had gotten her booster and flu shot on Friday and was feeling miserable. It was cold and raw out there but worth it. The people who volunteer are so darn nice. I always leave a little note saying thank you and the intake person told me again how much they appreciate it. Well-- I appreciate *them*!
She saw me coming and remembered that I like getting plant-based food and had three packs of Impossible Burgers for me. Guess what is for dinner tonight? *G*
I stopped at the new store on the way home and their produce was so much better than Shop Rite. I got pineapple, blackberries, and watermelon. Plus iced lemon cake slices and vegan rugelach. I think my mom will have a nice little "party" this morning. I hope so, she really needs cheering up.
Oh, and my Tile Pix order came in and it came out really nice! My mom wanted a picture of Caitlyn's wedding dress. Caitlyn printed a photo of the three of us and popped it in the frame backward so she can look at it when no one else is around. LOL
My goodness, that dress is gorgeous!!! Now she needs to find a place to wear it. :/

I am really getting aggravated with the shawl. @tanteva what am I doing wrong?
PXL_20230108_120427167.jpg

MOSS BOSS COWL CROCHET PATTERN
Part 1 – TRIANGLE

Ch 1 does not count as sc
Ch 4, sl st to the first ch to make a ring
Row 1: ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc (4 sc)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch, ch 1, sc in ch 1 space, ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) all in next ch 1 space (this is will be your corner), ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, sc in last stitch (6 sc)
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in first stitch, ch 1, *sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1* repeat from * to * to the corner space, (sc, ch 1, sc) all in corner space, ch 1, * sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1* repeat from * to * across to last stitch, sc in last stitch (8 sc)
Row 4 – 42: Repeat row 3 ending with 86 sc

Is it supposed to have that curve on the top?
I have given up on that pattern and started this one:
1673183744021.png

But I really wanted a tight stitch for this yarn so while I am getting a lot more done, I am not thrilled with the way it is coming
out.

Any thoughts or advice?

Good morning. Syd is leaving at 9:00 and it is going to be quiet here. She is picking up a friend who wants a ride back to school so she will leave right at 9...although if that is the time she planned to leave, that is when she would leave. That's Sydney for you.

So, now I should be able to get lots done, right? LOL Probably not! I'll be back later today with personals. Need to get her out of here first.

I am really getting aggravated with the shawl. @tanteva what am I doing wrong?

I haven't made that shawl myself yet, but guessing here - When you turn, do you not crochet the first stitch on the new row in the same spot as the ch 1? Looks like you treat the ch 1 as the first sc on the new row? But I'm just guessing.

Check out her video here:
She's doing a square here, but the first half would be the same, I guess.

As for the other shawl - go up in needle size. You need more "air" between the stitches, otherwise it will not fall nicely.

@tanteva She is a really amazing actress. Tatiana Maslany who played all of the clones on Orphan Black always blew my mind playing so many different characters in one show too.
Rose McIver is really good on Ghosts too. We can't decide if we like the UK version of Ghosts or the US version. Both shows are really funny if you are looking for something else to watch

@BrightEyes thinking of you today

@LSlycord sending you good thoughts and love as well, I hope that Syd has a fantastic semester!

I was all freaked out about the coyotes when you mentioned them until I remembered how many we saw on the trail cam when the kids set that up a few years ago. (I know how awful lockdown was for most people but we really had fun!). We don't have lynx here, are they bigger than bobcats? I know you will be very careful with the dogs so I will refrain from saying it. (can't stop me from thinking about it though! LOL)

@Cherylndesigns Hmmmmm, I am not sure how I would feel about freeze-dried Skittles. Considering I don't like regular Skittles, I'd pass on them. OTOH!!! Those Cinnamon balls-- I'll take 1000!
We'd been with Sprint forever and we were happy with them. We had good reception (not always easy going up the mountain) and decent customer service. Since they merged with T-Mobile it has been awful. And the CS is giving us a run around over everything. We had gotten the new sim cards but Scott's phone wasn't compatible. They offered him a "free" phone which was awful. To compensate they offered him a watch for free. Turned out that they were charging us for the phone/the watch/a line for the watch and insurance for the phone that was worth nothing. After complaining again and again, CS said they would refund *all* of the charges. Then said they couldn't because the agreement was made under Sprint, not T-mobile. Then we got a 2-month refund and now they are back to charging us for everything all over again. Ugh
It's a mess
Hahaha!! Yeah, knitting was not for me either!! You have to open the package and make the elephant!

@vickyday if you have a Walgreens nearby, they always have discounts on their photos- prints and gifts. You can get free 8x10s if you sign up for their newsletter too.

Good morning all.

Happy Sunday - yep it is Sunday (talking to myself). I thought it was Monday when I woke up. Daisy and Sam woke me up this am - they were playing and running and I could hear Sam hissing at Daisy. It's all in good fun and I'm happy that they're such good friends. Sam had never been around a dog until we brought him home. Now, he's surrounded by dogs all the time. He's really settled into the pack. Chuck always gets up before me and he said the cat was the instigator this morning. Now he's sitting out on the back patio and Daisy is whining for him to come in. Animals are so much fun.

Chris @faerywings I don't like Skittles either, but the freeze-dried ones don't even taste like Skittles. I wasn't even going to try them, but they're pretty darned good. Too much sugar for my sensitive teeth, though. I can't eat too much and chewing it is especially bad. I rarely eat candy for that reason. I did a little research last night and you can make lots of that stuff yourself. I'm still going to see if I can dehydrate them. Just for funsies - they intrigued me.

Glad you got the good stuff to have for your mom's birthday dinner tonight. Tell her Happy Birthday! That stinks that you're having so much trouble with T-Mobile. It really stinks about the insurance - that's such a joke - it doesn't cover squat and I know you're like me - you'd never knowingly sign up for that. Threaten to leave them!! AT&T is pretty good and so is Verizon - they just cost more. Maybe it would be worth it to not ave the hassle you have now.

Linda @LSlycord I saw the cute pictures of Syd on FB. She's so cute with the dogs. It's wonderful that she loves school!

Kay @BrightEyes sending you special hugs today.

I have to get my bed made so I can let the animals in. They're standing at my br door. Haha

XOXO

Just a quick in and out today. Not surprised that I had another restless night and woke up several times - got up a few of those times - but forced myself to go back to bed and to sleep. Decided at 5 AM that I wouldn't sleep any more so put the coffee on and started my day early. I got my letter to Bill uploaded to FB this morning. Then walked around the house for awhile. Got a notice from Karen Schulz about an up-coming release (I am on her CT) and that had me pulling out my mom's photo albums and scanning some photos from it into the computer. Brought back some fun memories and a lot of "I had forgotten about these photos" memories. Thank goodness I had figured out how to get my printer/scanner to work with DH's computer last week!! Not quite ready to tackle scanning more photos - I have a ton of them to do - but was glad to spend time finding the photos I remembered and was astounded to see the date and place written on the back of them.

As luck would have it... when I took my first sip of coffee, it spilled down the front of my robe! I had not tightened the lid of thermos cup down completely. The robe had been washed this week and it was the first time since then that I put it on!!! Talk about moving fast as I felt it soak into the robe. I bloated the coffee up but I can still see the coffee... guess I will do a handwash on the spots so they don't become a permanet stain.

Uh, oh... the computer blinked and the post I was working on disappeared! I did a quick refresh the page and it popped back up... whew... I take that as a sign I had better post this now... just in case.

Hi Everyone,

I slept in a bit this morning, unusual for me. I read that Pistachios can help you sleep and so have been eating a few each day, and sure enough, I'm sleeping better.

I'm busy replying to emails this morning. Have gotten behind. Then I have computer files, mostly my designer stash, I must get in order. I've been lax with my files the last few months, so must get cracking. I still find it difficult working with Windows 11. It's raining here today ,so a good day for computer work.

@faerywings Chris, Happy Birthday to your mom. I hope it's a super special day for her.
I'm so glad Scott is getting over the anger. Anger hurts no one except the person holding on to it. I learned that many years ago after ending my first marriage as a battered wife.
I tried crochet many years ago, and quilting, both I was told wwere relaxing. I never found either relaxing in the least, and finally gave up on both. I then bought a camera, and found my relaxation zone, in photography! :)
Can't find it now, but thought you mentioned the cost of weddings. My son and DIL are doing awesome with their wedding video business. The week before last they videoed a wedding in Charleston, SC which cost over $100,000! I can't even imagine spending so much on a wedding.

@BrightEyes, I'm thinking of you during this difficult time. I lost my hubby several years ago in Oct, a month before our 40th wedding anniversary. Each year I have the hardest time functioning in Oct, Nov, and Dec; I miss him soooooo much.

@vickyday Have a great time getting ready and then celebrating with your family. Be careful you don't wear yourself out with the cleaning.
I totally understand about the books. I used to have tons of them. Hubby and I once sold books on eBay, we did well, but it was such a hassle with all the mailing of them, dealing with customers, etc. After he passed away, I cleared out tons of books; most we had bought at thrift stores.

@Cherylndesigns I laughed so hard when you said "I swear I had needles under my armpits." I've never tried knitting, and don't think I will, as needles under my armpits doesn't sound too pleasant or relaxing!! :D

@bcgal00 Yummy! Meatloaf and mushroom gravy sounds so good. I haven't made meatloaf in such a long time. Must make a note to do so soon.

@LSlycord, I'm sure you're going to miss Sydney, and I hope she has a safe trip back. It's good she has a friend to ride along.

Good morning ladies. Spent the morning chatting with the family about spring road trips. I want to go birding in the Revelstoke/Golden area of BC and also through the Osoyoos region close to the border, heading east.

I made the meatloaf yesterday with crushed pork rinds (keto friendly) and it was good. Tonight I'll have the rest of it with the mushroom gravy I made. D is happy to have a steak for dinner tonight.

We caught up on the Law and Order shows and FBI last night. Tonight I think we'll binge last season of American Horror Story.

Today I'll stay home and putter around the house. Jen leaves tomorrow morning for Vancouver (dentist visit) and will come back on Wed. She pulled the tendon in her hand/wrist so I am going to go look for one of my wrist supports for her to wear at work tonight.

@faerywings Your parents are coming today, right? Hope you mom cheers up.

I'm going to get off the computer and go look for the wrist support for Jen before I forget about it. HAGD everyone.
