My goal of trying to stay warm yesterday? Big Fail. Big. FAIL. And wow, it is putting me into Full Scale Hibernation Mode.
:behindsofa:

I feel like I am just wandering around in a fog. I was able to get some more of my kitchen cleaned and the floors mopped. I did a bunch of loads of laundry. I didn't clean for my neighbor. He wasn't feeling well- flu maybe? so I was just as happy not going over there. Instead, I put plastic over two windows but then ran out of plastic and tape. Next time I am out and about, I will have to pick up another pack.

Scott and Leah got to my parents' with no issues. I asked them when they got there if there was enough food or if I should have Grandma come up with more? Leah texted me back with a picture of some of the snacks that they already had spread out with the caption "We're starving." A while back, there was a picture on FB floating around of a table filled with food and the Caption on it was when your Italian Grandma offers to bring out some snacks. My kids got such a kick out of that because it was so on point.

Today I have to clean the LR and DR since my SIL will be here and will be sneezing a lot because she is allergic to cats. I guess one good thing is that the cats have been staying upstairs the last few months, perhaps there will be less dander.
I am off to the Food Pantry and then will be meeting up with Caitlyn at the vet. Clover seems to have another mammary tumor in her groin. :( I don't know what the dr will suggest at this point since she is getting closer to 2.
My trail of the day is going to be washing my hair. I have been putting it off the last couple of days since it is so frigid but I have no choice but to freeze. (Did I ever tell you all how much I hate the cold????)

If anyone has temps that are over 20*F-- send them out to the East Coast- Please!!!!!!!!

::grouphug <~ huddle up to help us stay warm

Nancy-How are the snow drifts by you? The wind has been brutal up here. Luther is a lucky boy to be able to play outside with your DH. W wants to play in the worst way but she still needs to be taken out on a leash. If we put her on the lead, she still goes after the poop. I hope that this is something that she will outgrow since the treats to make the poop taste bad doesn't seem to be working. Thank goodness for the ability of people who can work remotely. My brother was able to do that too on Thursday.
That stinks about the refs making bad calls. I hope that they regroup and kick butt tomorrow.

Trudy- how amazing your look!! Love that new avi! And that quote-- perfect! It reminds me of the time I met Gary. I had been dumped by my boyfriend who had (unofficially) asked me to marry him, called me Mrs. Hayward, etc. I was done with dating, done with guys, just done. I had taken a semester off from college and was unable to go back so I transferred to an all-girls school here. A friend I met there took me to a party and that is where I met my love. Even though I wanted nothing to do with dating *anyone,* I knew he was my soul mate. So out of the bad came good. :D
I feel the same, I like having my house back to normal (whatever that is). Is Heather all settled back in herself? You are such a good mom and I am sure she knows how much moral support you send. I hope that in the Spring, a lot of homes will open up and they can move somewhere bigger.

Rae- Cripes, it stinks that it costs that much for Bailey's treatment. Shameful, really. Thank goodness that the bio father came through but poor Jen can't seem to catch a break. I am sending all of my love out to you and the family that Bailey works the program and gets better physically and mentally.
Congrats on the new phone!

Jean- I love the new avi too!! The bird is a perfect touch, of course. Hope that you are staying warm too.

Felis- hi there!! Have a good day!

Love and hugs to all!

Good evening girls,
busy day here, we have spring weather, which shows how much work I have in the garden, but just no time for that right now. I have to finished few tasks indoor, which is such a shame in this temperatures :pout:.

Chris, I think it's 50F (it certainly is 10C) here and will go higher next few day, at the night is still minuses temperatures (somewhere under 28F) and the water was freezing, so we have very big temperatures amplitudes. But It's looks like March. I'd love to send you all this hot weather! I'm worried about you, girls! At the news showed America under snow disaster. This is so strange. It would be so much better if snow was fairly distributed wherever it is winter now, instead you to suffering till we don't have at all.
Oh, the story how you are met Gary is so sweet! And that you was said in previous day: that the children are taken his sense of humor, it must be wonderful to can see represented favorite parts from your beloved, in this is the meaning of the ancestry, the meaning of life. You are so sweet couple. Such a sweet family as a whole.
Poor Clover, hope the vet will can find solution again! I guess Caitlyn is sad, poor girl, past few days she was in so many different hard situations. I hope you can find a way to raise her the mood!

Rae, I wasn't understood that Bailey is Jen's daughter, she must be gave birth very young. I think often for B, sending her positive vibes! Life can break us so badly. But I pray, she to be one of these successful recovery! Did you already read Karen's son story?
I strongly hope that in the modern world this happen easier! My grandpa was in recovery programs three times, but his family was forced him and he wasn't honest in his intentions. So stay vigilant! And be strong, you and especially Jen! I finally realised why she is so sad. Hope the new year bring new beginning for whole your family!
What happened with the vet app of Taz?

Jean, it must be so beautiful to see rabbits in snow! And it's so good sign for you with sure! I hope it wasn't too cold for your yesterday meeting!

Trudy, you are done great job with arranging your house back to normal! I understand your wishing kids to live closer, but at least you have all these modern way for connection. Oh, you had mentioned that your son will move too, correct?! When have to happen this? May be in final you will go to live closer to them too, who knows?!

Nancy, so good that you're feel better! But stay on warm for a little dear! I know how tempted is to play at the snow with Luther, but don't hurry :) !

Morning ladies... quickly popping in and out of here today, DH and I are on our way out for the dreaded shopping for a new washer and dryer soon. Ugh I hate to have to spend the money on new appliances, but I guess it has to be done, or we won't have any clean clothes LOL. Then off to the grocery store, I can't believe that I need more food in this house after all the left overs that were in my fridge. The other day I made three turkey pies to put in the freezer and then still had turkey leftovers so I froze the rest to put into soup when I get the time and inclination to make that. Last night DH and I watched the remake of the movie "Flatliners" It was disappointing  no where near as good as the original. I hope to catch up with you all a bit later today, gotta go my lOves, have a great day! :bolt:

good morning - wow it is cold and won't get better until Monday. So I am just staring at the sunny blue sky and glad I am inside. My recovery is slow and it must have been flu as I was achy and coughing but no real runny nose. I had my flu shot so I think that helped a lot. Not doing much, just watching hockey and some TV. Team USA won the Bronze medal and Canada took home the gold while Sweden took home Silver. The only sad thing was the backlash on twitter that the Captain of the Swedish team received when after being awarded his medal he threw it to a fan in the stands. People can be so mean. Poor kid is a teenager and I know that winning the silver medal means you lost and these kids are so competitive that winning a medal for losing is pretty bitter. From listening to Devils hockey alums it is the losses they remember way more than the wins. It was great to see all the twitter people recognize the fire he had and his competitiveness. Twitter can be fun but at times it is really nasty. My Devils don't play until Sunday matinee in Brooklyn so today is fun watching other teams play! Then the Devils have the next 5 days off for their mandatory break. I wonder sort of when we became wimps. When I lived in Madison for 6 years my DH and I walked to work in -30F wind chill. We had long underwear and boots and coats and hats. Now we have better made, heated coats and all that stuff and now they scare us when it is below freezing. I know you have to take care but I remember going on skiing trip where there was ice on the water inside the house until the fire was stoked. I know I was younger then and now I don't want to be cold LOL but these weathermen sure scare us.

Chris I feel for you being cold. My sister has the same problem but luckily in AZ she does not have our cold. She could never live here. She makes her living typing so to have the cold effect she knows she could not type. Sounds like you were very productive too! Funny about the photo from Scott and Leah and the snacks. Good luck at the FP and just being outside.

Trudy you were super productive and it is so nice to have a house back to normal. Glad you are scrapping again.

Rae I am glad there is a plan for Bailey. So glad that her father has stepped up to help Jen and Bailey. You have to keep trying. You are good at negotiation so congrats on new phone and plan.

Jean hope the meeting it not too far and just enjoy those heated seats.

Hope every one has a great day!

I'm still down at the historical society to do some research, but the meeting was good and the reception of the book was super. One friend wants to show it (I can send him a pdf of it) to a 7th grader he is assisting in a somewhat similar project. The car said it was 9* driving down and though the sun is shining, probably not much warmer (and love the heated seats!) They promise tomorrow for it to really warm up.

I've just finished lunch in the little lunchroom and it's so cold here, I've got to go where it's warmer. Sorry to be brief.

In case you hadn't realized this already, my family has crummy luck.
Vet appt for Clovie went about as expected. She is scheduled for tumor removal on Wed. The vet doesn't think it is a mammary tumor because it is so far down on her torso. It is in a spot that could eventually block her rectum and bladder. I feel bad for Cait since she has been working so much and all of it is going to be paying for the car and for the surgery.

Next up, it was Scott's turn. Leah called us in the afternoon for some advice. Scott got a flat tire and had put the donut on and they wanted to see what options they had. Poor kids are dealing with changing a tire in zero degree weather 2 hours away from home. On a Saturday, after 4 pm. :(
Thankfully, they were able to find a tire shop and it only needed a patch. They should be able to get home with no problems *fingers crossed*

Poor Gary has been having a horrible time getting his blood sugar under control. His endocrinologist switched him from one insulin to a cheaper one since we couldn't afford the $500/month for the stuff he had been using for years. It has been a month and he is still struggling to get the basal rates steady. (In using an insulin pump- it recreates what a pancreas should do. You set basal rates to give a steady dose of insulin, and they change based on body rhythms so you need to figure out how your body changes- overnight, during the day and so on. When you eat something, you calculate carbs and then bolus- administer- the appropriate amount of insulin to counteract the intake of carbs.)
I know how I feel when my POTS symptoms fly all over and it is exhausting. I cannot imagine how it would feel to have your blood sugar doing the same. It has to be hell for him. (Not to mention high sugar makes him kinda cranky)

Today, the family is coming up to celebrate my mom's 76th birthday. Thankfully, everyone is bringing food so all I need to do is set up. I cleaned a bit more yesterday and I am drawing the line at vacuuming and wiping down the bathroom. And that will be it. It has to be.

May the sun be shining for you all day! xoxo

Felis- I cannot say often enough how jealous I am of your warm temps. It takes me forever to get bundled up enough to take the dogs outside and then to unbundle when I get back in. I miss the days when I only had to put my sneakers on to do that. I can't complain however, I have a home and heat. I am hearing horrible stories of homeless people dying from exposure and dogs too. People are leaving their dogs outside in this. I know that it is common for homeless people to have dogs and that in some shelters, dogs are not allowed which is a horrible choice for them. But for homeowners to be leaving their pets outside??? It is like when the people who left their dogs tied up during the hurricanes. Makes me spitting mad.
Then I see that in Sydney AU a highway was melting and that they are having record-breaking heat. We need to do something about this climate issue.

OK-- W is whining so I am going to post this typos and all. BRB!

Thanks for liking my story of how Gary and I met. We have had some pretty hard times but we just keep on getting stronger through it all.Caitlyn kept thanking me over and over for always going to the vet with her. She knows she can do it on her own but likes knowing that I am there for moral support. And she is that for me too. Same with Scott and Leah knowing that they can call Gary and he would do whatever he could to help them, he even offered to drive up to get them if they couldn't get the tired fixed and couldn't get home. It is in our blood and in our upbrigining- just look at how much our parents do for us. And if my kids have kids, they will do it for them. And if they only have pets- same thing. See Caitlyn: Exhibit Clover :D

Trudy- were you able to find any good deals of a washer/dryer? I hate having to spend money on things like that but you have to have clean clothes. That is too funny since we had the same feeling after Christmas. We had so many of them and yet there was no food to eat. That is a bummer about watching Flatliners and not enjoying it. We haven't watched a movie (other than the Christmas ones) in ages. Thank goodness for Netflix series. We just finished Travelers and are 2 episodes into Peaky Blinders' new season.

Nancy- the sun is *very* deceiving, isn't it? We are supposed to break 30* on Tuesday. I feel so bad for you that you are still not feeling 100% better. It is good that you got the flu shot.
Twitter can be brutal and it sad that the Swedish player got such backlash. Maybe he was trying to do a nice thing by throwing it to a fan?
OMG- I wouldn't last a day in Madison! I should move to AZ. I would do much better in the heat than I do in this cold. I understand completely how your sister couldn't type when her hands are cold and painful.

Jean- you always sound somewhat surprised at how well-received your book is. How neat that you will be able to share your work with a kid who is doing the same kind of research. Yay!!

OK, tomorrow is new week new begin and no more excuses, I start with yoga (at home). My sister don't accept for a serious excuse fact that I dont have a mat. She practices from ages just by using beach towel (the floor at our bedroom is with carpet). So I spended many time to create yoga cards from a screenshots, because I think this will be faster than to watch video every time. The instructor is very detailed, so I have been able to create comprehensive scheme. Hope it will work good for me! After that I spend the afternoon outside.

Chris, wouldn't be great if we could travel free with teleportation, or thru our fireplaces like in Harry Potter?! I would love to have you and Cait here for week or two, till is warm. It would be so much fun! We could bring J, W and my tiny on a walks, till R and my big play at the yard. Usually I lock the cats when we have guests, but I know you don't mind them, so you would be perfect guests!
Oh, this is something that I always worry at cold, for a homeless animals. This year they have such a good luck here.
Better I to not start talk about the politics for pills! Before few weeks here had protests, because of another witless changes. It's just not fair to treat people in this way! The politicians are constantly restraining chance of the regular people to live normal. It's so cynical to told us that the country don't have money for medicine, till they all came to the meeting in expensive new governmental cars! What?!
Deep sigh and understanding about the Cait situation. I revised my finances at the beginning of this year and they are bad as I expected. The worse thing is that I got these debts because of the vet treatment which event was not successful. Fate is such a bi***. Poor Scott in this horrible cold to have changing a tire. At least this will become a remarkable memory with sure! Hope they can deal with this with sense of humor and fast as is possible!
Happy birthday to your mom! Best wishes!

Jean, is that you make research mean that you receive access to the limited books that you wanted?! Yey, now your book is inspiration for others! Your hard work totally deserved it!

Nancy, hope you have a fun inside! Hope soon you'll be totally recovery.

Trudy, hope you found good deal for the washer. So bad that this happen after all holiday sales is over. I'm not watch "Flatliners" yet, but I should because Nina Dobrev is our national treasure :) , so we watch even the weak hers performances.

Rae, :hello:and !

Morning O-zies... another foggy wet :rain: day today. But I will not complain about it. When you watch the news and see what others are having to deal with. My goodness it is the Winter from Hell for so many! I slept until 8am this morning, not sure why, I did not stay up too late and I certainly wasn't really active yesterday, guess I am still catching up from my little bits of sleep that I got while I was sick with my bad cold. Anyway I have changed the sheets on my bed, made some breakfast and put in a load of wash in my leaky washing machine and now I need to get ready to go out for lunch with my sisters. My sister Wendy had her birthday the other day and we thought it would be nice to take her out for lunch today. She is very excited to be getting together with her sisters!

Chris - Yes we found a very good sale at Home Depot for the Washer and Dryer that we wanted, and so now just have to order it in and should have it by the middle of the month. Hopefully my old washing machine will do its job until then. We have fixed it up good enough to use for now however we have to keep a towel under it to catch all the water that leaks out of the front of it. Sorry that things are not going well for your family right now, poor Cait must be so worried about her little sweeties! Sad that she works so hard and then has to put out all of her earning for vet bills and car bills (such is the the way of life for most of us!) Yes Netflix is wonderful! Have you seen the Godless series? Such a great role played by Jeff Daniels! So opposite from his role in Dumb and Dumber!! :becky: A violent mini series but it really captivated us! Hope that your Gary can manage to get his blood sugar levels under control, such a worry!! Keep warm and cuddle up under your blankets!! B!TW happy birthday to your Mom! Give her a hug from all of us!

Nancy - Sorry other that you are taking so long to get over your illness, the flu is just starting to get bad around here, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that we do not get it in any shape or form! We have both had our flu shots and I think that it really helps, but I don't have time to get sick again! I will be going to our son's toward the end of January to watch the kids for a few days while Jason and Jackie will be in Vegas, so I am really praying that I do not get sick before or after! Keep your fingers crossed for me! It sounds so bitterly cold where you are, I hope that the temps warm up for all of you very soon!

Felis - Yes it would be lovely if in the end we could all be closer to each other, not much chance of us moving to Ontario though, we lived for 28 years in a place where we hated the weather and I will not be doing that again! It is far too cold in winter and way to hot and humid in the summer. I love it here on the Island and doubt very much that I will ever live anywhere else again.

Jean - Of course everyone loves your book, are you surprised?? We are not LOL You put so much work and love into it! How nice that it will be shared with someone working on the same type of project! Yes heated seats must be so wonderful in the cold temps that you are all having right now. Does your car have heated steering wheel also?

Rae - Sending you lot of warm hugs today! Such a worry about your granddaughter and the expense of treatment for her, but good that the Dad has stepped up and is helping out. Hopefully this works for her, you know we will all send positive thoughts your way!

Ok ladies I need to get dressed in a bit nicer attire for our lunch this afternoon, then home to vacuum the floors and get them washed too. It never ends!! Hopefully a couple of hours to spend here at the O and scrap another page today. Tomorrow is my nothing day and I am so looking forward to it! Have a wonderful Sunday ladies!

Good morning, ladies. The weekend is flying by. Yesterday morning, Jen came over to tell us all about the trip to get Bailey to the treatment centre. She was here all morning. Then when she left at lunch time we popped over to the mall to get a screen protector and cover for my new phone. On the way back D picked up takeout for his lunch, got home and he just sat down to eat it and the doorbell rang. I was still taking my boots and coat off. It was my BIL and SIL. So we spent the afternoon visiting with them. By the time they left, it was almost dinner time. As they were leaving, Bailey called. We had such a good talk and she is feeling very sick from the detoxing but is feeling good about the facility and the staff. She said the food is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. I'll be going to Bowen Island next wkend to see her and she can show me around. We'll be attending an afternoon seminar about addiction and families while we're there.

This afternoon I'll be puttering around, doing chores, going to the organic shop to take advantage of the sale on grassfed meat (its expensive so I almost never pass up a sale to save money there). D loves going there too so he'll come along. I'm going to scrap later on my LR computer and watch a few shows (the PVR is getting full and I don't want to delete anything so better watch some shows).

Tomorrow is back to normal with work so Monday is going to be my usual busiest day of the week. Even though I had a lighter work schedule last week it didn't really seem like it so I know tomorrow is going to be exhausting for me. I'd better enjoy today :)

Chris - your family has so much love and support for each other. I'm sorry to hear of little Clover's tumor.

Nancy - I know how you feel about being deconditioned to the weather you knew in younger years. I grew up in Ontario and there is no way I could go back there with the colder winters and hotter summers. I have a hard time dealing with the west coast weather here which is generally more moderate but still I complain LOL.

Felis - good for you for wanting to get started at the yoga. Sounds like you've planned it well. I was thinking of going to the yoga place at lunch time this week and talking to them about some beginner classes. If it's not feasible to go to their studio right now, I am going to find some youtube vids to follow along with and try to start the basics at home. I would like to start soon too. I know it's going to help me feel more limber and help my lower back discomfort.

Trudy - glad you got a good price on the w/d and fingers crossed the old ones do the job until delivery. Have a wonderful time with your sisters this afternoon.

I'm going to sync my ereader with the library cloud as I have a few new ones ready for me and then will figure out which book I will start now that I finished Copy Cat this morning (really enjoyed it). I sat in my chair quietly this morning for an hour and finished my book, with Taz curled up with me and D sat in the kitchen doing his crossword puzzle. Its exactly how I like to start my weekend day :) Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Friend called while I was still reading the Sunday paper so spent a long time on the phone. She is another genealogist and needed help sorting out some new records she just got. Very pleased that it is warmer today, but I'm still sitting under an afghan with DH watching football.

Chris, boy, wish you guys could catch a break! Good thing you've got each other to keep it together. Wishing a happy to your mom.

Felis, bet it feels great when you start with the yoga - not only doing it but knowing you're making the effort.

Trudy and Rae I find it curious to see your descriptions of Ontario weather as so bad. Depending on where in Ontario, it's about the same as here. And I think here is so much better than places that get too hot like Oklahoma where BIL lives.

Nancy, Sharon, hoping you're both well and having a better day.
