Daily Ooos: January 4-5: Weekend Edition

The Loopy-O
CHEERY O
It's the weekend! And maybe because of that, I was physically and mentally able to sleep late. I didn't wake up or get out of bed until 6:30. That's like sleeping past noon for normal people. :giggle4:
Or maybe it was simply that I was exhausted after the long day and busy field trip. Either way, it felt great to not be moping around the dark kitchen at 5 am.

The field trip seemed like it was a success! The kids were enjoying it and *loved* the Exploding Snowmen. We did that at the end of the day which was a smart decision by Lauren. The group was very wound up from it so great to wave goodbye after that mess. :)
Exploding Snowmen is mixing baking soda and vinegar in a ziplock baggie and when the internal pressure increases, the baggie pops open. Some of the baggies didn't explode which gave the kids a chance to see if they could help them along by throwing or stomping on them. Lots of crazy chaos.

I got home, took a nice hot shower, and then relaxed. I had asked Gary to make grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner- mozzarella and rosemary on round Italian bread- and that hit the spot.

Pigeon was back home after the surgery before I got home from work. She did well and the best news was that it wasn't a tumor, it was an abscess. Less invasive and not cancer-- big pluses for my little baby girl. And for Caitlyn who is relieved that Pidge has a great prognosis. Hehe

Today I am heading to the FP this morning and then cleaning my office this afternoon. Now that it's the new year, I need to work on filing and shredding the stuff from the last few years that have piled up. And up... and up...

Do any of you have exciting plans?
Tracy- I hope that you enjoy every moment of *not* going to work today :D

Love to you all!

I'm heading out in an hour to pick up a friend and we'll drive the back roads north east of Calgary, looking for snowy owls. I've got two cameras and binoculars. Fingers crossed. We are going to an area known for them but we could drive all day and not spot any. They are extremely hard to find, blending into their surroundings very well. But I hope we get lucky.
I saw the pictures on FB!!! :thud: They were incredible! You have such a gift and I am totally jealous and in awe but I love you so it's all good ♥ You really got gorgeous photos and even though it must have been freezing, they look worth it!

If any of you are on FB, you MUST go see them. Must. :nod1:

Rae-- thanks for the info on the collagen in your coffee. Since we don't eat much meat at all, I am sure that I am lacking in protein.

@vickyday Rats are prone to mammary tumors and Caitlyn and the vet can usually tell by how they feel. Caitlyn does tumor checks on the girls every few days. It's part of petting them LOL She feels around in the armpits and groin for any small lumps. It's always easier to get them removed when they are small and hopefully not attached to anything structural. Cait and the vet were surprised that this was an abscess, they both felt it an though "tumor."

@AK_Tracy The hike was chilly but we were hovering right around freezing so not bad as long as we were moving. (Listen to me, the person who typically complains that it is *freezing* when the temps are below 65*F :rotfl:)
I think half my battle is knowing how to dress and have the proper gear. I will never stop obsessing over how I love my winter hiking boots.
Oboz, Badger 9" waterproof/insulated hiking boots. In case anyone was wondering. I have Raynauds so if my feet get cold, it is allll over for me. These boots are a game-changer.
I'm happy that your house is back to normal too, it's like you can breathe again when the clutter, no matter how cheerful it is, is gone. How did you do with your scrap goals?

Sending good thoughts to Pidge!

We had a fabulous day touring Fraser Island. Absolutely stunning spot! But after 13 hours in a shaky 4wd we're all a bit battered.

On the not-so-great side, the busy itenerary and physical activities of the past week caught up with my MIL. She started having some pains when we got back, and ended up spending the night in the er for some tests. Really hoping it's just exertion and not something more serious.
Thank you for the good thoughts, they worked!
I'm sending them back for your MIL, I hope that she is feeling better by now!

:grouphugyay:

Morning, all. I slept in this morning, too... 7:30 before I woke up. I did wake up a couple of times but went right back to sleep. Think it is going to take more than 1 cup of coffee to get me moving today... the body is wanting to crawl back into bed. But I am determined to stay up. Have some CT work to do today. So better get it done before I run out of steam.

I've been sleeping until 8:30 or 9 with Mark being home the last couple of weeks. That will change next week when he starts getting up at 6:30 again!

Good Morning,
Picked up groceries this morning. Ended up having to go to another store because I HAD to have a couple of items I ordered for tomorrow's dinner at church.
Nothing planned for today, other than more re-downloading from my store. Got all of the laundry done yesterday. No cooking because I cooked yesterday, so we will have leftover chili today!
Have a great weekend!

I figured that might be the case with the rats. Glad things worked out ok!

Glad your HS session yesterday was a good one!

Good Morning O Fam!
Its Saturday! and I am NOT going anywhere!!! :girldance::girldance:

Oh this sounds like controlled chaos at its best. Good thing the Exploding snowmen was the last thing as I am sure it was messy.
I had asked Gary to make grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner- mozzarella and rosemary on round Italian bread- and that hit the spot.
This sounds amazing!!! Is the rosemary chunky? Or do you chop it up?
Tracy- I hope that you enjoy every moment of *not* going to work today :D
I plan to enjoy every moment. Thank you. Normally I would be getting in the shower in half hour and right now I am enjoying my coffee without hurrying. However, it feels like most other days at the moment, slow and easy wake up. makes it almost not Saturday.
I'm happy that your house is back to normal too, it's like you can breathe again when the clutter, no matter how cheerful it is, is gone. How did you do with your scrap goals?
Yes, as much as I love the holiday decor I love putting my house back to normal more. I did get three pages done yesterday so yeah! It was success.
. Think it is going to take more than 1 cup of coffee to get me moving today...
Wait? What?? You have days that are one cup of coffee only???? What????

As I said, not much going on today. Woo Hoo!! Its finally warmed back up to the teens so we might go shooting. Need to site some rifles and test reload rounds. And I won't miss out on the fun this time!

Well, I know I need more then one cup of coffee, so off I go to get more! Have a wonderful day!
:coffeedrinker::coffeedrinker::coffeedrinker:

Good morning ladies. I have been busy doing nothing this morning but the time is flying by LOL. Remi wants to go out so I need to get dressed and get her out for a walk. I had my coffee and collagen this morning, I will be heading out to the legion in a few hours of our dice game with friends and will get tickets for the "chase the ace" game which is up to almost $3000 if the ticket winner then chooses the ace of spades from the remaining 10 cards. I had the winning ticket twice and won $250 but not the big cash prize so fingers crossed for today, either myself or Darrell and if not us, then one of our friends.

@faerywings Glad the kids had fun yesterday and glad to hear that little Pidge didn't have a tumor.

@AK_Tracy Did you have your protein this morning? I did (in my office). Is it starting to sink in yet, that you are not working?

I need to get out of here, Remi is driving me nuts, she needs to run around. HAGD everyone.

It's been a hard week, but today I'm feeling the most like myself. Mark gets the husband of the year, dragging me to urgent care, and taking care of me all week. Not feeling100% by any stretch, but staying home from church tomorrow, and hopefully ready to go by Monday.
Belle will be home permanently tomorrow. Yay!

@faerywings glad to here Pigeon is ok. Such a relief!
@bcgal00 going out looking for snowy owls sounds like such an adventure!

Despite everything, we managed to get undecorated this week. Piece by piece. Mark took the tree down today. It looks so nice with everything clean and crisp and back in it's place.

@AK_Tracy Did you have your protein this morning? I did (in my office). Is it starting to sink in yet, that you are not working?
Yes, It was awesome! I didn't have to hurry my coffee (with collagen) and I didn't have to run to shower. It was great. Only two questions asked so that was great. Read a book, lounged, and went shooting. great weekend.

Isn't that the best feeling ever? Getting the house back in order. Glad youre feeling better. Hope Belle has a safe drive tomorrow and Monday is great for both of you.

my New Years resoloution was to keep more up to date here in the chatter.....well it's the 5th already so you can see how that worked.

My visit with the ortho Dr for my injured shoulder did not go well. After the 4 weeks of therapy I'm still in pain so he wants me to go for MRI on 14th he thinks I may have injured rotator cuff. I cannot sleep well at all so I am not functioning well very good. So many people have said sue so I contacted a lawyer on Friday....not easy because some will not go after the Electric company. So long story short I found one who will represent me, have cyber paperwork to look over....I never did anything like this so I want to be sure I won't get stuck paying for the rest of my life. Got to make up my nervous mind by Monday.

We had small group of friends over for dinner Friday night...so much fun and I got to use my new oven.

Well good stuff...our hurricane sliders are being put in on Tuesday- well one of them at least. I'm excited to get the house all hurricane proof.

@faerywings you asked Do any of you have exciting plans?
I've started making our summer travel plans-taking the travel trailer North to VT. Leaving May 14 will be back in Mid September. Coastal route up and mountain route back. Going to see family and friends in CT and then upstate NY to see the progress on our son's retirement McCabin then to friends in VT. on the way back we will stop to see my twin in TN and hopefully Amy.

Your exploding snowmen sounds like a fun thing to do with the youngest grandson when I get up there.

You are one busy lady I think you are amazing!!!

@AK_Tracy enjoy the retirement, it's hard to get used to at first but you are going to love it.

@mimes1 I hear you about get undressed from Christmas...easy for me this year we didn't put up anything, but that feeling of back to normal is fabulous. So glad for you to have Belle with you, she is such a sweet lady. I will be in touch as I hope to plan to be traveling to your area so we can get together again, I'll be in touch with some dates

@bcgal00 I enjoy your photos on FB and photo-hunting snowy owls is beyond cool.

@BrightEyes when you sleep late it's cause your body needs it...I tell my self that. I read awhile back that you had help getting the yard ready for winter...that is awesome.

Happy Sunday!! Another "late" sleep-in by me today-- a 6 am wake up and needed to get out of bed (back pain ugh) at 6.15. That is late for me. Two days in a row! Wow  I wish it translated to more energy during the day but who knows, maybe I'd be feeling worse if I was awake at my usual 4.30-5.00.
It was a pretty quiet, lazy-ish day. I got out to the FP and back by 11 am. I just adore those people who volunteer there. They are so incredibly nice and generous and helpful. I get hugs from the woman who runs it and her grandDD works the intake table and I adore her too. They didn't have any plant-based items again but they stocked me up on cans of dog food and treats! Thank goodness, I don't have to worry about skimping on the furbabies. In all honesty, I don't have to worry about skimping on the girls' food, since Gary notoriously overfeeds them. And if we ran out of grocery money, we'd find a way to feed them over the humans in the house :floorlaugh:
They had an overabundance of bread- loaves and loaves of baguettes. I asked if I could take an extra loaf so I could make croutons and the woman shoved several more loaves into my bag and a a bag of rolls to boot. LOL

They also had fresh veggies-- I grabbed a bag of Brussels sprouts and a broccoli-cauliflower mix and made the best hoisin sauce/coconut noodle stir fry with them last night. I had wanted to try the recipe and was waiting for the veggies to go on sale. And yippee they were at the pantry! I made up the hoisin sauce with soy sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, canola oil, ginger, and garlic- tossed it with the broc/cauliflower and roasted then the oven. Shredded the sprouts and tossed with sesame oil and soy sauce, roasted them. the recipe called for rice noodles which I didn't have, so I used linguine. Added coconut milk and soy sauce to the noodles, and layered the veggies over them, topped with green onions and sesame seeds. I was so full but I had to go back for seconds. It was amazing!
Time-consuming to be sure, and I sauteed an entire baguette for croutons in between, so I cooked for much of the afternoon.

Plans for today... I didn't do much in the way of filing and shredding of old papers so I should do a bit of that. I would like to do some scrapping. My mom's birthday is Wednesday and I have to find a gift for her. Caitlyn added a "few" more pictures to the shared wedding album, maybe there is of of me and my mom in there and I can do something with it.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful day!

xo

@BrightEyes Hope that you are having a better day. I know Bill's anniversary is on the 8th (IIRC) so I hope that you're taking good care of yourself.

@vickyday Ugh, I hate when that happens, when your grocery order doesn't have the items you absolutely must have. ShopRite usually only gives me one choice as a substitution and more often than not, It's not helpful. Sorry that you had to go to another store. I love leftovers and no cooking-- yay for the chili!

@AK_Tracy Woot about not having to go anywhere yesterday!
Oh this sounds like controlled chaos at its best.
It wasn't supercontrolled, but I tried! One of the kids tossed their baggie in the air and I thought I was going to get beaned with it! LOL
Gary makes the grilled cheese like this: Melts butter on the griddle and adds dried and finger-crumbled rosemary to the butter to infuse it a little. Puts the bread into it, cheese, to bread. When it's ready to be flipped, he pushes the bread to the side and adds more butter/rosemary, then flips the bread into it. I could live on that. Cheese and bread are two of my main food groups. Wine and coffee are my other two. Fondue and an espresso martini would be the *best* meal plan ever
Hope you had a safe and fun time shooting!

@bcgal00 I'm sorry that I didn't see your message about the Ace game in time but I hope that you won!!! That would be super exciting. Think of all the jewelry supplies you could buy!!

@mimes1 Everyone I know is either sick or just getting over it and it sounds awful. Mark gets gold stars from me too!
Your house is going to feel so much better with Belle in FT!!

J is begging for her b-fast-- BRB!

@BoatLady Oh no, what terrible (potentially) news about your shoulder. I'm guessing rotator cuff might mean surgery? I hope that whatever you and the doctors decide that it brings you relief. And lots of good luck with lawyers. :praying2:
Your summer travel plans sound so exciting!
LMK if you need any tips or tricks for making the snowmen with your G-DS. I didn't use enough baking soda- I couldn't; find the TBSP measure in the work kitchen so I had to use a plastic spoon and with 19 kids jumping all over, I had to move fast. Depending on how old your G-DS is, I would suggest making a few snowmen with different amounts of baking soda and see if more of it makes a bigger (and better!) "explosion."
I hope that everything works out for your trip and that you get to meet up with Amy again! That sounds amazing and fun!

Hugs to my dear O-Fam!

That supper sounds amazing, Chris! I wish I had it in me to do all of that mixing and prep! I remember spending hours looking for new recipes to try when I was raising my family. Not so much now.

Quick in and out for me today. Heading to church soon. Special service with 3 preachers and lunch on the church grounds.
Got a ton of downloads done yesterday but still not halfway through!
Mark's daughter and kids are coming over today after church, so a busy day for us.
Hope you have a great day!

Woke up early... 5:20AM... UGH!!! Had a restless night tossing and turning. You are so right, @faerywings ... only a few day until Jan 8th - the anniversary of Bill's death. This is always a difficult time of year for me. I will try to stay busy by either scrapping, setting up folders for 2025, and/or reading/binging on watching movies.

We had some very high winds yesterday and most of last night (could be why I didn't sleep well). The temps are on a down-hill slide from 60 to 30's & 40's as highs. Looks like we will be heading into 'more normal' winter weather this week. Even talk of snow this week. That is good/bad news... we need the snow/rain as we have had no precipitation since Nov 17... but I hate to drive when it snows.

DD#3 flew out to help DD#1. Her family will all be back at work or school so DD#1 would be alone during the day. Her bedroom is on the 2nd story (lots of stairs) and she still is not able to put any weight on her foot.... so she doesn't go down stairs. Yep... the kitchen is on the 1st floor!!! Glad that DD#3 was able to make the trip and stay until DD#1 is in the walking-boot and able to navigate the stairs.

Need more :coffeedrinker:--- looks like it will be a 2 or even 3 cup day for me. HAGD

Good morning everyone, I slept pretty well last night. Only woke up once coughing so that's good. Today it's laying low, preparing for real life tomorrow. Hopefully will feel up to making a layout today. We'll see. Hasn't been much creative mojo lately. Belle will be here by 1. Mark's going to go get her some flowers for when she arrives.
@BoatLady YES! We're here and would love to see you! Whatever that looks like we'll make it happen. I'm so sorry to hear about your shoulder and subsequent lawyer involvement. That cannot be fun. I'll pray for resolution for you in what you decide to do with that.

Good morning ladies. D slept in so I sat by myself, watching the sunrise, drinking a few cups of coffee and enjoying my book (Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand). I'm going to create a brown/pink bracelet to wear today, we'll be going to visit friends for the afternoon and will play canasta. We'll snack all afternoon so dinner will be something light, maybe salad for me and leftover chicken strips for D.

My name didn't get chosen for the Chase The Ace draw at the legion and the fellow whose name got chosen did not win so we'll all be there next Sat in the hopes of getting our name called. About 12 of us go. We played a dice game for a few hours until the draw and then we were all out of there by dinnertime.

I've decided on my next photog day trip, Jen and I will take the dogs and go to Abraham Lake (about 4 hrs away). I want to photograph the ice bubbles. We'll go in a few wks, need to make sure the lake is frozen to walk onto.
Untitled-design-71.jpg

We have two more episodes to finish Day of the Jackal, it is so good. I also started watching the limited series of Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol (TWD).

@faerywings The Stirfry sounds delish!
@BoatLady So sorry to hear about your rotator cuff injury. Mine has healed nicely but I can't ever raise my arm up over my head for more than a few min b/c the pain sets in but I can live like that quite well, for the most part it doesn't bother me. I do wish I'd gotten the surgery back when it happened b/c I feel like I would have recovered more successfully.
@mimes1 Sounds like you are feeling better. My cough was minimal and I recovered quickly from this latest cold/virus I had. I almost always get a sinus/lung infection and after a few days of sore sinuses it all cleared up. So glad I didn't have to go on the antibiotics like I usually do. My gut health is still in a state of improving but not totally there yet.

I'm going to go read emails, hop in the shower and get out for a walk with Remi before going out for the afternoon.

HAGD everyone.

Good Afternoon O Fam!

We went from Panama City Beach to Clarksville, TN on Friday and spent time visiting my brother. I toyed with leaving Saturday afternoon to head to Ohio, but my husband thought I should spend more time with my brother. So we left TN this morning at 6:30 with time to get home being 1:30, actually 2:30 my time. Well the storm moved across earlier than expected and driving was horrendous. Waze said by 2:30 that it would be 6pm before we got home. Hubby said let's look for a hotel. We did, ordered food and are hunkered down for at least one night. Shall see what the weather actually does. I am excited though, because we have internet that works. Plus 52 Inspirations 2025 is ready to go.

Glad you are safe...We lived in Clarksville TN from 76 to 79. Hubby was stationed at Ft. Campbell. Safe travels when you resume your travel.
