Daily Ooos: January 25-26: Weekend Edition

:waving3: Hi O-Fam!
It's the weekend! Another brutally cold one but it's somewhat warmer, we might break 20*s today.
My legs felt very weird yesterday. I wore jeans since I left my house and have been rotating between my two pairs of fuzzy-lined sweatpants here. I felt very exposed or something like that.
Since I am here this morning, you can see that I didn't lose my entire mind at my parents' yesterday. They were pretty well-behaved. I had to shut my mom down once when Gary was talking to my dad and she was butting in but that was it. Not bad, I should bring him with me every time. Unfortunately, his stomach was really awful. They wanted us to have lunch but we had to rush back home or he was gonna

I was feeling exhausted and cranky and hungry when we got back but then I read about the Panda Cams and what a mood shift I had while watching them. OMG, I could (probably will) watch them all day. You know me and my love for rolling pandas. :lovey3:

I was considering going on a hike today, just to the park around the corner from me. Then I thought about how awful and cold it is and I decided against that. Tomorrow will be a little warmer, maybe I can psych myself up to go out for a little while in the afternoon.
My brain was 90% non-functional yesterday so I bailed on writing lesson plans so that's the main objective today. I have a little more finished on the faery house but the one side needed to be reglued yesterday so there isn't much to show just yet.

I think that is about it.
Lots of hugs coming to you!♥

@BoatLady Debby, that is *wonderful* news about your shoulder/no surgery!!! I hope the shots are working by the time you read this. Did you sleep any better since you had that done?
My PCP wants me to get pneumonia shot...one shot he said - "all older people should get it"---well thanks for that!!!
Hehe, when I was at the dentist, he kept using the phrase "post-menopausal" and I was thinking-- couldn't you just ask me if was Post-menopausal instead of assuming I am? :floorlaugh:
Did it take a while to notice any pain relief from the TENS machine? Gary borrowed a friend's years ago but it didn't make any difference for him. But he only used it for maybe a week or so so perhaps it is something that needs to be used often. I'd love to hear more about your experience with it if you don't; mind.

@vickyday Nope, all of my pets have always been inside only. The dogs go out on leads. There is a Japanese Maple (invasive and I wish I knew that when I planted it 20 years ago grr) in the middle of the lawn and the well pump is a few feet away. She's a ding dong that gets stuck between the two.
So glad that you slept better.
It almost feels like the pain is moving into the hips. I figure my body is compensating for the lower back muscles.
That is always the second phase when I throw my back out, pain radiates to my hips. Hang in there!
Pimento cheese? Ummm, that sounds a little hinky to me LOL I'm glad that you enjoy it and hope everyone had a wonderful evening at the concert!

54*F in the afternoon sounds like heaven compared to 40* today.
For real!! I can't imagine what it will feel like to be above freezing and 50s sounds like t-shirt weather ATM LOL
I was telling Gary that I asked you about the pneumonia vaccine so we tend to react similarly to other vax's. Granted, every vaccine is different and every person is different but in my mind, if you didn't have a reaction, chances are that I won't. Messed up and non-scientific thinking? You bet, but if it gets me to the pharmacy, it's all good haha.

This cracked me up!!! We put the dogs on leads when they go out too and oh they always get tangled up when there isn't snow to cover the edges of the stairs. Or they weave in around the green house posts that need new plastic. Silly dogs. Totally feel this pain and fear :giggle4:
I wish we could have a fenced-in area of the yard for them but it's impossible and I know I'd hate it if we did. I'd also be happy to get rid of the Japanese maple but that's next to impossible too. An old friend gave me a sapling and I thought it was going to be one of those tiny maples. Nope, this thing just keeps growing and growing.
Anyway-- yup, dogs and their small brains and leads don't mix.
Your hand numbness might be from the way you are resting your elbow on the desk. That nerve that runs through the elbow can get trapped or inflamed and that will cause the numb/tingling feeling in your fingers. When I get that, I try to rest my elbow on a thin pillow for some cushioning and that and sometimes Voltaren gel will help.

He is on his flex day off and we are just sitting in the living room and having our coffee. I am on my iPad and keeping warm by the fire. It is supposed to be a sunny day here and the temps are going to be a bit warmer, so hopefully we can get out on a walk this afternoon.
How long did this lazy feeling last with your Gary? No errands or big projects yesterday or is he saving all that up for today? :giggle4:
One month for your brother's passing seems very long and very short at the same time. How close will Veronica be to you when she is back in Canada?

@scrap-genie That's fanatstic about DH and the Afib!

It was nice to have company but nice to have him gone too.
This is so like me too. :rotfl:
I like having my space- physical and mental. Have fun at today's potluck!

@Nonni F Hey Florentino!! Happy 2025 to you and the kitty fam too!
It's always awesome when you pop in, but try for more than once a year or so, please :D No pressure... :;)
This cooped-up feeling makes me want to jump out of my skin but then when I think about going out in the cold, I am like Helllnoooo.
I hope this sort, out of nowhere message finds all of you smiling.
Always!!
Well, thanks! You're right we're a few degrees warmer than you but after here, it might feel warm in NJ, thank you!
And I get "overthinking" and join you in that club. Waiting reall IS the hardest, I find it difficult to deal with the unknown. :heartpumppink:
It's a crummy club but we have great company! Just about everyone I know is this way. Some are a little more obsessive than others (me, my mom, my BFF, my DD. heh)

Work was slow but good news came to me today. I applied for a position that would be a promotion and got an interview next week. I'm pretty excited about it!
That is wonderful news!! Good luck with the interview!
And congrats to the Girls' B-Ball team! That's impressive to win by 25 points :cheer:
Kudos to DH on having the fire ready for you when you got home ♥

HAGD!

Good Morning Everyone, A lazy morning here for sure. We're all home at the same for the first time in a while! Mark is making bacon and french toast. Then Belle and me are going to do some Goodwill shopping, and Mark is going to work on planting a new tree in the front yard. It's supposed to 40 degrees today! WooHoo! Heat wave!
Breakfast is ready, HAGD everyone!!

@faerywings I do not mind sharing info at all. I have to say that the Tens machine helped me allot. I've been using it on my leg the most. It had been sore on and off ever since my hip replacement 3 years ago. I used it 2-3 times a day for an hour...moving it to different locations where I had pain. I used a pretty strong setting. I can walk with less pain but it still hurts to lift it into van to drive. I'm going to zap my sciatica today as we have a social at the club tonight so I want to try to be pain free.
Please feel free to ask me anything, any of you O's

Good morning ladies.
@BoatLady Darrell also has a TENS machine and uses it whenever his back or legs bother him. He loves it. He puts his at a fairly high setting. I've never used it. I just go lay in bed with a heating pad when my back gets bad.

I'll be popping out for a few supplies in a bit. Forgot to get the dog chews yesterday and need a few things for the meatloaf that I forgot to get yesterday. I'll make the loaves in early afternoon so they have time to cool before heading out to the potluck party tonight. It'll be a good crowd, around 45. I'll bring a few coolers to enjoy as D will be the driver for us and a few friends that'll car pool with us.

I saw that Jaime Oliver's new cookbook is out. I've spent a ton this week so will wait til next month to order it. It's pricey but I love his cookbooks. The new one is all about simple meals. I ordered low carb tortillas online so will be airfrying a batch for snacking and salad topping over the next few days. I've been good about no bread or starches. I find it easy to get back into low carb eating. I bought a veggie spice on amazon and it added a little oomph to my frozen veggie mix last night. I also added parmesan truffle spice to the fried mushrooms. Thank goodness for spices on a low carb plan.

I'm heading out with Remi soon and then will pop over to the store. Then I can get the meatloaves into the oven and have a few hours for "me" time.

@faerywings Sounds like the parents are better behaves when Gary is with you. That makes sense. With you sharing the family dynamics with us over the years, I feel it helps me, makes me more aware of how D and I talk to each other, with Jen around. I think we are more tolerant and kinder to each other, knowing that it affects her too. I definitely think we used to bicker more before, like when we were tired, having a crappy day, etc. It's so easy to vent to those close to you.

@mimes1 Bacon and french toast...yum! Enjoy the goodwill shopping. Anything in particular you are looking for?

I'd better get on with things. HAGD everyone.

Good Morning O Family!
Its hot again here, already up to 37. That might sounds cold but our average temps right now should be around -10 not almost 40. It rained all night last night. I have a layout design in mind to create so you can all see the difference. The biggest problem is the normal photo I take of the lake, I cant get down there. So I'm trying to get a good photo that shows the same areas. I'm over the ice. The patches of grass are greening up. too!! What the heck!!!

@faerywings I had to giggle at the comment about sitting at a desk and that could be why I my hands numbing. I dont sit at a desk. I have the recliner kicked back, the wool blanket on my lap, laptop and coffee. No desk sitting for this girl. But the numbness only happens in the morning. So I am not sure what's going on. Thankfully it goes away if I move. Today (so far) its not an issue.

Today will be low key. Last night was date night so tonight will be pizza. Otherwise you will find me on the couch either scrapping or reading. Might sit in the sauna. Ooooooo Coffees done!!! Off to grab a cup (pot). HAGD

I am feeling better and better each day with the back/hip pain.....but the more I move around the more it seems to help.
I think pimento cheese is an acquired taste. I didn't used to like it. But the brand I buy, that EVERYONE swears by, has made me like it, LOL! Maybe it is a regional thing??

Slipping in a bit late (for me) today. Been busy scrapping... just finished up the last of the 7 regular monthly challenges - Challenge #5 Artsy/Mixed Media... Had a hard time deciding what to do for it. Glad I waited till almost the end of the month as I my mood about 2025 was not good earlier this month. Finally feeling in a more positive mood.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I love pimento cheese sandwiches... but haven't had that for several years. DH was not fond of it. I used to make my own with grated Velveeta Cheese and pimento pieces I would buy in a jar. Hmmm... maybe I will see about buying some pimentos.

Oh... bacon and french toast. I was just thinking about making that then remembered I need to thaw out the bread! Hmmm... maybe I make some waffles instead. Eggs are getting so high priced here in the US due to bird flu killing off so many chickens. In fact, just heard that one of the fast food places is now adding a $1 surcharge on any food item made with eggs!!

All this food talk reminds me I need to get something to eat... HAGD

hello hello hello!
It is warmer right now (7 am) than it has been in weeks at any point of the day. (It might have been this warm yesterday afternoon, so don't quote me. LOL) All I can truthfully say is that I'm glad that we are not in that extreme cold snap. At least the sun has been out for the most part and it's not that cold and dark type of day. I'll take anything I can get.

How was everyone's Saturday? I had a pretty decent day myself. The best part was when Scott came over on his lunch break. I had been missing him for the past few days and mentioned it to Gary on Friday and Caitlyn yesterday morning. She --such a fantastic DD ♥ - texted him to say that if he was up-county and had time, he should pop in for coffee. And he-- fantastic DS ♥- did that.
He got Sam a bird feeder with a camera for Christmas and showed us some of the pictures it took of the birds and squirrels. I can't wait for the spring so I can put my hummingbird feeder/camera up. Scott apologized that he should have gotten me the backyard bird feeder so I could use it now but it's all good. I teased him that my birthday is in a few months (it's not, it is in June but let me plant the gift idea now :giggle4: ) . Then I told him how I wanted to see the kids and the next time he is babysitting them, I am inviting myself over. Also good news from him, he is babysitting on Tuesday so I am crashing that party :D

I was able to get the first field trip lesson plan ~80% sketched out. A lot of it will be snow/weather dependent but I built in some different options. When Scott was over, I showed him the progress I am slowly making on the faery house and told him to tell Sam that I am enjoying it. No pictures of it just yet, it's still mostly loose pieces all over.

My plans for today are the usual Sunday ones. Food shopping order, tidying the house, and getting ready for the week. I need to post my AJ Challenge and maybe I'll have some time to scrap.

How about you? What are you doing today?

PS: I decided I was not going to hike today. I'd love to but it is still too cold to go out there voluntarily :brrr:

:hug4:

@mimes1 I was telling Scott about you when we were chatting about birds. He disliked birds when he was younger and I didn't care one way or the other. We were more mammals and herp people. :D
As we were discussing bird feeders and food and suet, I told him how I had to bug you about the kinds of fat that were best to make fat balls. Everyone in my family knows that I gag when I touch meat so when I told him I found the beef suit in the grocery store and would use that with the kids, he was shocked and impressed.

See-- this is one more reason why I adore this group-- I learn so incredibly much from all of you, things that I use daily in my life. I appreciate that more than you know ♥

Did Belle have any trouble driving in the bad weather? She started the job on Thursday, IIRC? How does she like it so far??

@BoatLady TY for the info on the TENS machine. My hairdresser told me that she uses a pen on her dog's knee and seemed to help her (the dog) quite a bit too.
What brand do you recommend?
Did you have fun at the club last night?

@bcgal00 That's a lot of people a the potluck but I am sure you had a blast. I love how social D has been too. Does Jen go to these with you too or does she enjoy the peace and quiet and puppies at home? (I know where I would be, with the dogs! In case you couldn't guess HA!)
Glad my ramblings help! *G* Seriously though, I think hearing from other people makes it easier to objectively internalize an awareness of how we interact with the people we love. Then that awareness can guide us to make the changes we need to make in our personal lives. Does that make sense?

@AK_Tracy How long has the "heat wave" been going on, most of January right? How will this affect everything else- like your reservoirs/water tables etc? I wonder how the animals are adapting too. A lot of the lessons I have been writing have a lot to do with hibernation and torpor so that makes me wonder how will these animals know what to do?
It is hard for humans to adapt. Yikes. :(
How is the numbness so far today?

@vickyday I love the pandas and spent more time watching them eat yesterday. I would love to keep the video feed on my second monitor while I do my regular desk stuff but then I would be totally distracted and get nothing done. hehe
Whew, I am so happy that the pain is easing up!

@BrightEyes Good to hear that your mood is feeling better at the end of the month. How hard it must be to face the new year with grief coloring all of it. ((((HUGS))))

Wishing everyone the best day ever!

Sunday Salutations from New Hampshire.
It's 0800 hours. Grocery shopping is done and the sun is finally out. Word is it will hit 40 here today, but the winds will make it feel like 20. One would think I'd get stuff done INSIDE since it's cold out there, but somehow the motivation isn't there when wrapped in a blanket with a pile of cats on your lap. I am always far more motivated to work in the garden than I am in the house.
I hope everyone's day is free of aches and pains and that everyone finds something to make them smile.
Off to scrap....
PEACE

When I read your "hello, hello, hello" I hear Tracey Fox and see her waving fingers from her YouTube videos! ;)

Quick in and out for this usual Sunday morning as we will be heading out to church in a few minutes.
DH has already decided on pizza for lunch. YAY!
I never have gotten around to my redownloads this weekend. I plan to do that this afternoon.
Otherwise no plans for this afternoon. It looks like snow outside but I don't know what the forecast is. It was a high of 49 yesterday! Felt great!
HAGD

@faerywings Here is the TENS I got and it has been great but it's not a one time use for a fix so I use it every day it a place that bothers me.
Our Club social was small because there were many other events that member had to choose from--fund raiser dinner at a church, concert in the park and a dinner bithday party...always so much to do here.

@Nonni F I hear you about wanting to be in the garden more than in the house...It's warming up here in Florida so I hope to get back out. I hope it warms up there for you.

@AK_Tracy How are you liking retirement?. I wish you could be plowing snow cause I know you like it so much. most of the OLadies are complaining because of the cold they are having and you are wanting it.....just not fair.

@vickyday so glad your back pain is easing up so you can get back to normal life.

We have a party to go to this afternoon for a long time friend turning 80 so another fun day....it's at a great restaurant with about 15 people so I know it will be fun. I picked another one of my blood oranges...it was so sweet and fresh. My tomaoes have survived the cold weather down here so I am happy they just need to finish ripening.

Morning, all. Feeling better today...but decided I had better take another relax and rest day. Tomorrow I will be heading to the base to pick up Rx and grocery shop at the commissary. That is always a stressor on the back. The good news is the temp is heading upward for the next couple of days so will try to get any running around done before the predicted snow storms hit mid-week. Not sure how much snow we will get here on the West Mesa but I plan on staying in and off the roads.

Only a few more days until Color Play is released on Thursday evening.... Will be a fun weekend for it and also with Feb 1 on Saturday and the new monthly challenges... Don't mind staying inside when we have all that going on. :rotfl::floorlaugh:;)

Oh, @BoatLady you are making my mouth water...I love blood oranges!! I got hooked on them when we lived in Cairo, Egypt. They are so sweet. Glad your oranges and tomatoes survived the cooler weather there in Florida!!

@Nonni F So happy to see you popping more often!!! I hear you about staying in wrapped in a blanket!!! I do the same (without the cats as I don't have pets) with a hot drink and a book to read. It is just a question of is it a PJ day or not.. :D

@faerywings so glad that Scott came over for coffee and a short visit. Sounds like you are doing well on your plans for HS sessions at Weis... way to go, girl.

Time for my :showering:now that the house is warm enough. HAGD

Quick in and out today. I'm heading to an artisan market with a friend, after I take Remi for her walk. Then I want to work on some jewelry design this afternoon. A friend game me a lovely metallic forest green butterfly brooch yesterday. We are going out for her birthday on Wed night so I want to make a bead/chain bracelet for her.

Weather has warmed up a bit so it will be a nice day to be out and about. The whole week is going to be around 7C (mid 40's F) so I will enjoy my walks with Remi.

Gotta go, I need to be out of here in half an hour and better get that walk in now. HAGD everyone.

Good Morning!!
You'll never guess what!!
Its raining STILL

@AK_Tracy How long has the "heat wave" been going on, most of January right? How will this affect everything else- like your reservoirs/water tables etc? I wonder how the animals are adapting too. A lot of the lessons I have been writing have a lot to do with hibernation and torpor so that makes me wonder how will these animals know what to do?
It is hard for humans to adapt. Yikes. :(
How is the numbness so far today?
I'm so bad at keeping track of things but it feels like all of December and. January have been warmer than normal. For sure all of January. And its still pouring rain and the temps are suppose to hit 40 again. There are many reports that the bears are NOT hibernating like they're suppose to be. Lots of sightings up in the mountains and a couple down lower. The moose are doing good as they're not struggling for food or deep snow. They're not on the side of the road like normal so I think the death rate is down for cars hitting them. I think with the rain we should be okay but we wont have the usual runoff from the mountains when snow melts. Right now we're under flood watch in a lot of places as the rivers and low lying areas have no where for all this extra water to go.

One would think I'd get stuff done INSIDE since it's cold out there, but somehow the motivation isn't there when wrapped in a blanket with a pile of cats on your lap.
I like your idea, couch, blankets, pets, and a good book all snuggled up in the house. Sounds like the perfect recipe for Sunday, or any day. :)

@AK_Tracy How are you liking retirement?. I wish you could be plowing snow cause I know you like it so much. most of the OLadies are complaining because of the cold they are having and you are wanting it.....just not fair.
Debby, I love it!! However, I still get called each Saturday. There's always something weird that pops up that you just cant train for. Like all the rain we have is messing with underground wires and sometimes that screws up the computer components. I worked at a storage place. The gates done always work in the heavy rains. So its been fun to just be sitting in the sauna when they call, not dressed for the day and being there. Yes, I agree, the weather flipping and you all being cool and snowy and me being hot and rainy is crazy. I would gladly trade.

Todays a bit ....... I want to be slow but son has youth group event so we will be killing time in town today after church. Meaning a book and sitting in my car. There's not much else to do. I can eat or grocery shop (no thanks) or wander Home Depot. That's about all there is on a Sunday. But at least the main roads are down to pavement and not slick. Just the side streets that are super fun. Ice rinks dream of being as shiny smooth as our driveway.

Well, time to get more coffee and feed the dogs.

PS I made it this far without numb hands! YEAH!!!

@BrightEyes glad you're feeling better today. Wonderful to hear.
@BoatLady good to hear it's warming up in Florida. That southern weather has been a bit crazy lately. Mother Nature needs to get back on her meds!
@vickyday have a wonderful day. Enjoy your pizza! (Dang, now I want pizza)
@faerywings Saturday was quiet here, but a much needed quiet. Today is sunny and the cats are watching the busy bird feeders. It's 37 here. The wind hasn't kicked in yet... maybe I'll take a walk and get some fresh air. OR maybe I'll just sit here like I have been since around 1000 hrs. I can walk around the building at work tomorrow. :kitty2:

Today was the first day of our coast-to-coast bike ride across Florida. 40 miles on the Pinellas Trail from St Pete to Tarpon Springs. We all started dressed for winter biking but by lunch the van was full of discarded layers. I'm SO glad it has warmed up. Last week in Ft Myers was rainy and cold so I was crossing fingers about this week.

We haven't done much biking to prepare for this, since it was rainy and cold in Virginia for several weeks before we left. I am feeling it in my legs this afternoon. I'll probably be stiff on the bike tomorrow, but it should work off after the first couple miles.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy good weather this week?
