Daily Ooos: January 18-19: Weekend Edition

The Loopy-O
CHEERY O
It was lovely having you join me with our drinks at 5 pm yesterday. I had a glass of white wine and Caitlyn had a cosmo :drinkglance: and it was at 6 pm so it wasn't too early for Tracy to meet up. LOL

I am done with winter. I hate the cold weather and the crummy mood it puts me in. Even with the therapy light, I'm just cranky. I can't even really complain since we haven't gotten much snow at all. Although that is changing this weekend, not sure how much but anywhere between 3 and 8". Tracy-- I hear you laughing, that's basically a dusting by you :D

How was everyone's Friday? Mine was ok. I was able to scrub my shower without hurting myself, go me! Gary took the showerhead down to soak it in vinegar so *fingers crossed* I'll have some better water pressure too.
My back is feeling a little better and I wonder if some of the pain was from the osteo meds I took this week. It wasn't great before I took it but felt worse after so maybe it was a combo of things.

I uploaded my page for the recipe challenge and I used a button on it, per the recipe. I was going to cheat and swap a button with a flair. But I sucked it up, used a button, and tucked it far enough under a flower so I didn't have to see it. :rotfl:

I am off to the FP this morning and that's about it for plans. I should probably start working on the lessons for the next HS session soon. It's not for another 4 weeks, but it will give me something to focus on. Lauren asked me to help her develop a curriculum for a summer camp session for 4-6 yos which I am super excited about. And two weeks until maple sugaring training and then the programs begin. So that's positive stuff to focus on instead of the freezing cold and snow in the weekend forecast, right?
Right!
:nod1:

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day!
Lots of hugs to you all!

So you are nursing a sore back, too! So sorry to hear that. Hope the yoga helps. Vegging in my recliner yesterday seems to have helped some. I'm hoping another day of vegging and rest will do the trick.
Thanks and I hope that your back is better too, sounds like you are on the right track.

Morning, all. I had a good sleep last night... from 8PM until 7:20AM!!! WOW... feeling much better this morning.
Thats wonderful!
I've been having weird dreams, lots of violence in them which makes me wake up very unsettled. One that I remember bits of was I was cleaning for a family and the man was verbally and physically abusing the woman and I "had to" ignore it.
Good luck with gathering all of your tax papers and getting them done.

but I did get out to my fav Craft Store and bought a couple of things that I thought I needed
Don't leave us hanging, what fun stuff did you get? And *of course* you needed them! How could you not?? :D
Oh yikes about FIL and driving. I understand him wanting to be able to drive as well and the anxiety that you must feel with him driving. My dad is sort of in the same position- he can see fine, but the reflexes do slow down. But if he can drive himself to the fire dept (1.5 miles) it will keep him-- and my mom-- in a much better place, YKWM?
LOL-ing at your MIL and the cold weather causing illness. My mom's thing is Nostradamus. According to her, everything that happens in the world was predicted by him. :rolleyes1:
will take you up on that offer!! What kind of wine should I bring?? Do you prefer white or red?? :drinkbuddies:
I prefer white but will happily drink either one with you :D
Oh and yes we do use a sweep on all of our hikes, not sure if putting a cap on the number of people would work for us, as we don't really sign up for each hike, we just show up or we don't.
That must make it harder for everyone but your groups are usually well-attended, so how do you change it? :thinking2:

Pick me!!! :drinkglance:Pick me!!!!! :drinkbuddies:I'm there!!!! However, for you 5p. is 1p for me. But hey its Friday and I'm okay with day drinking! :giggle4:
I pick youuuuuuuuuuu! Did you notice I pushed the timing back a little bit for you? hahah!
Snow can be pretty when it's all white and sparkly and lasts for 10 minutes. I would never make it more than a day in AK. Nope.
Yay for the car getting fixed!

@bcgal00 How awesome that D is meeting up with some old friends!

I'm making a ramen noodle/coleslaw salad to bring and will make enough to keep for me at home for a few meals.
This sounds interesting! How do you make it?
@faerywings I feel your pain. Add me to the sore back pile. I've been miserable all week, finding all kinds of creative crazy ways to get out of bed in the morning. Yesterday I went to the doctor, have steroids and muscle relaxant. Still in alot of pain, but it's improving. Sitting with a heat pad on my back is currently my favorite thing, so I actually got a layout done yesterday. Mark and Belle won't let me bend or lift anything, and the ladies at work helped me with all the things today. I think I did it trying to scoot our 110# dog over out of my spot in our bed.
I'm sorry that you are in pain too and I'm glad that you were able to get some meds to help. It's awful how one wrong move can make everything hurt so much.
Enjoy the weekend and let the family take care of you!

One quick bird question for you:
I plan to make fat balls with the HS kids. Some recipes say it is ok to use vegetable shortening others say to only use lard. I never want to do anything that could potentially harm birds/nature so what is your professional opinion? TIA!

Good Morning!!!

Although that is changing this weekend, not sure how much but anywhere between 3 and 8". Tracy-- I hear you laughing, that's basically a dusting by you :D
That might not be a dusting but its what I've been hoping for. The dusting on Wednesday was 1 1/2 inches and now its all melting. So any time you wanna send me back my snow I am ready for it.

Yes, I did notice the time push back and funny thing is that hubby. handed me a beer. He was doing taste testing of a batch he brewed and It was close the the time you picked!!!!

Yeah, car not fixed. They ordered the parts but didn't see page two where more parts were listed. Go figure. So in Feb I will go back and hopefully they have all the parts to finish this! The poor guy who has to do the work, has to take the whole headliner down every time. Its not a simple project.

Today is a slow day. I got the laundry washed and most dried. The stuff outside I will have to hang inside as its raining. Then I need to put it all away. But I will start with the sauna and a book and call it a great start. Dogs need in. Have a great day.

Good morning, all. Another good night's sleep!!! Even though I did wake up a couple of times - went right back to sleep. Yesterday was a good day too. Moved the 2024 folders into a storage bin and labeled the 2025 folders and put into the rack. And have a tax folder ready for when the W-2's come in. It took less than an hour to get it all done. Still have a couple of loads of laundry to finish up today. While I was moving a load from the washer to the dryer yesterday, I bent forward and the reading glasses I had hooked into the neck of my shirt fell off... and one lens popped out. A screw had come loose when it hit. So I need to take it to a lens place and have the screw replaced. Thank goodness neither lens broke or was scratched. Of course, they are my favorite reading glasses and none of the other reading glasses I have fit as well. <<< sigh >>>

So sorry to hear about how many of us are dealing with aching backs!!! Sending healing thoughts to every one. And,, yes... I have been spending some time in the recliner using my chair massager. I realize when it is colder, I tend to tighten up the muscles in the body and don't move as easily... which leads to my back aching big time.

Better get moving as I want to be back home before noon... we have a high wind warning starting around noon until late this evening. Then the cold fronts will be arriving over the next several days with frigid temps. Brrrr...

Good morning ladies. I spent the morning shopping online (wanted a jewelry box for all my brooches) and found one on marketplace so it was a fraction of the cost for a new one on amazon. I always look on temu and amazon first, then go check on marketplace. I ordered a bunch of bird/wildlife brooches last night so can't wait to get them.

Today it's cold, -4 (-20C) but it'll slowly warm back up to the high 20s and 30s in a few days. The sun is out so it really is pretty out there. I know @faerywings that is unfathomable to you :)

We are heading over to the legion in a few hours, we'll play a dice game with friends, buy tickets for the meat draws and a few tickets for the 50/50. They serve the best perogies there. That is our usual lunch order when we go, along with a light beer. Yum!

Over the wkend I want to tidy up the media room where we have a pull out sofa bed. I'll wash all the bedding so it'll be ready for D's friend who comes on Wed for a few days.

@faerywings I can't believe you did my challenge and used a button!!! Good for you :) I know you hate using them.

@AK_Tracy Sauna and a book sound good. I am reading "The Grace Year" and enjoying it.

Remi is trying to herd me up the stairs now, she wants me to get dressed so we can go for our walk :) I guess it's time to go. HAGD everyone.

Thanks and I hope that your back is better too, sounds like you are on the right track.

Mine is better and better! Rest has helped! DH doing things for me has helped, too! He said, "I'm only sorry I can't pee for you!" :giggle4:

We must all be getting old.....with our aches and pains, LOL! I think part of my problem was being cold and my muscles tightening up after they were already strained, so it added to the problem!

Good afternoon,
I was actually to stand more upright today than I have since Monday! Thank the Lord!
I'm still vegging today. I don't want to ruin a good thing, after all! One more day can only help, right? RIGHT! That's my story.....
I need to do laundry, but Mark's work clothes are so heavy that I don't even want to push it with my back!
I did work a puzzle on my lap desk yesterday! I had to separate the outside edge workings into those puzzle sorter trays. Then I worked on the main focus of the picture on my lap board. Then last night I took everything to the dining table and put it all together and filled in the holes with the leftover pieces. That was fun. I've got to catch up on my daily ATCs and then I will work on another puzzle. I think we might have to order pizza for dinner! ;)

Have a great weekend!

Hello my LOVLIES,

Just wanted to drop in and let you all know that I'm still pretty sick. I actually have Walking Pnemonia, but am taking lots of meds and using an inhaler too. Went back to the doctor yesterday and he said it might be two weeks before I'm back full speed. PFFFFFT. I give it another week, at least before I'm back here with all of you.

BTW, I will be posting the Week 3 AJ Challenge tomorrow. (For our AJ Peeps). I know I'm a little late, but I at least have my page done, so just have to work on my writeup. Thanks for your patience. I made my page before I went to Las Vegas, so that's done.

Miss you all.
XOXO

Cheryl! Oh No!!! You take care of yourself, and DONT over do a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g!!!!!! I'll be praying you rest and get over this thing!! Big love and hugs to you.

Thank you Amy. I have been resting and staying hydrated, but I miss The O so much!! I promise I won't overdo. I'll take my time getting the AJ challenge posted, but hope to get it posted so everybody can get started on it. :heartpumppink::heartpumppink::heartpumppink::hug3:

Whoa!! I am late to the party this morning! It's 8.30 and I'm just rolling my way in. I slept until 7 am. For real! But before you get all excited and happy for me, I woke up feeling worse somehow. Seriously. :/ Everything hurts but I guess my body knows the snow is on its way. The forecast was revised up to 10" of heavy snow and then the temps are supposed to plummet. My back is in "pre-shoveling pain." Bwuhahah!
Thank goodness it is a Sunday and Tom is home, he takes snow shoveling very seriously.

FP went well, they did not have a lot of what I needed but they had so much bread again. One of the volunteers wanted to give me an entire bag of baguettes- probably 10 loaves. We love bread in this house but I don't think we could finish that many at all. I made another big batch of croutons, garlic bread stuffed with mozzarella, left one out for dinner tonight, and froze the rest.

In the afternoon, I scrapped a page for a pre-release and I think that was about it.
Oh yeah-- I was washing dishes when I saw a hawk land on top of one of the trees behind my house, I spent quite a bit of time trying to watch it with the binoculars but the angles of the windows made it tough to get a decent view. It was pretty cool and then after a while, a murder of crows (I love that term for them and will use it every opportunity I can :giggle4:) settled into a tree next to it. They were pretty noisy and the hawk was silent.

No plans today aside from waiting for and cursing the snow when it arrives.
My dentist appt is 9 am tomorrow and I wonder what will happen with it, will they call and cancel or will I have to trek in?

Have a fantastic and relaxing day!

Note to self: Change your siggie, Christmas is over LOL

That might not be a dusting but its what I've been hoping for. The dusting on Wednesday was 1 1/2 inches and now its all melting. So any time you wanna send me back my snow I am ready for it.
You got it-- take everything we are supposed to get today!
Yes, I did notice the time push back and funny thing is that hubby. handed me a beer. He was doing taste testing of a batch he brewed and It was close the the time you picked!!!!
That's hysterical, glad that your DH was part of the O-Fam Mind Meld!
Sheesh, why I am not surprised that the car wasn't fixed? SMH. Hope that your book and sauna were awesome.

@BrightEyes Sure, rub it in about all of your good nights of sleep. LOL
It has to feel great that you are getting all of the paperwork organized.
I hope it is just a time of year for all of us with aching backs. When I lay on the floor for yoga, I could hear everything popping. That made it feel great for a short time but obviously, it didn't last through the night.
Stay warm and be safe with the weather today!

I ordered a bunch of bird/wildlife brooches last night so can't wait to get them.
I wanna see some pics!! ♥

Ha!! Totally unfathomable! :rotfl:
Almost as unfathomable as me using an actual (sure, sure digital) button on my page :p I knew you;d be proud of me for that hehehe
Mine is better and better! Rest has helped! DH doing things for me has helped, too! He said, "I'm only sorry I can't pee for you!" :giggle4:
BWUAHAHAHA!!! Now that is a good man! :lol23:
That's really cool that you did a puzzle on your lap desk!

@Cherylndesigns You poor thing, you must be feeling awful. Please do not push yourself to get stuff done. If the AJ is written up, everyone can wait a day ♥
Sending you big hugs!

@mimes1 How are you feeling? Any better?

Since everyone needs hugs, here's some extra heavy-duty ones for you all

Aww! I hate to hear you are still sick! My daughter had walking pneumonia last month. Not fun. Praying for you to heal quickly!

Are you expecting snow from the system that is headed towards us from the Pacific south west? The weather forecast is that the snow will arrive on Tuesday here and it depends on how far south the system ends up being as to whether we will get it. But if we do it is predicted to be the fluffy kind of snow.

We love bread here too but 10 loaves would last forever!

Quick in and out.

I'm stiff this morning and on the heating pad for a few minutes before hopping in the shower to get ready for church. I'll still take it easy this afternoon and not do laundry. This is the day of rest, after all! ;)

I got caught up on my ATCs yesterday and even did today's since I was on a roll. I also started another puzzle. I had forgotten how much I enjoy putting them together! But I think I am going to rig up something different than the lap desk so I have more room!

KFC is on the menu for lunch after church!

Have a blessed Sunday!

It is COLD... only 17*F and feels much colder. May get some light snow around noon. Think this is going to be a PJ day for me. The back is stiff again today so foresee some time in the recliner with the massager. I did a bit too much bending/lifting doing the laundry yesterday. I was going to strip the bed and change sheets today but decided to be smart and give the back a chance to recover first.

Good morning ladies. It's our last day of temps around 0F and then we'll be back in the 20s and 30s. So glad these cold snaps don't last too long. We were at the legion yesterday and someone finally won the 50/50 Chase The Ace game. They will start over and do it again but it will take time to build up the pot again so we'll start going over to the next little town (about 15 min away) and play their Sat meat draw, 50/50 and chase the ace game. Their winning amount right now is at about $900. D won one of the meat draws yesterday so we brought home 3 huge pork chops.

Today we have a new friend coming over to learn the basics of canasta so she will be ready to play at the centre on Wednesdays. This morning I'll tidy up the house, get Remi out for a walk and get some CT work done.

I scored big on marketplace yesterday. Went into Calgary and picked up a big solid cherry wood jewelry organizer for $20. I was pricing them on amazon at around $150. No idea why she sold it so cheap but I sure am happy about it.

These last few days I've been watching videos about thin hair styling and products. I ended up ordering a new hair dryer and some hair products, recommended by a YT hairdresser I follow. This one should help with the frizz and I like that the barrel is quite a bit shorter so easier to hold and direct around my head. I ordered wax which I've never used so it'll be interesting to see what kind of hold that gives me. Here's the link to his YT channel.

@faerywings Sorry you are feeling sore today. Don't do any of the shoveling. Take it easy. That's very cool about the hawk coming close to perch. Those darn crows (I love them but they are so territorial), they never want any raptures in their area.

@vickyday You take it easy too.

@BrightEyes Enjoy your PJ day and enjoy the recliner.

Hope everyone enjoys their day. Time to get out with Remi and tidy up before we have company later. BFN

Good Morning O Fam!
Its a beautiful morning. Not for Chris, as its snowing here but its beautiful. However the 34*F means it will soon turn totally liquid and be a yucky mess.

The forecast was revised up to 10" of heavy snow and then the temps are supposed to plummet. My back is in "pre-shoveling pain." Bwuhahah!
PLEASE send it back! PLEASE dont shovel!!!!! You will tweak your back and be in pain if you do. Heavy snow it the worst for shoveling.

I bet that felt good to get caught up. Puzzles are the best aren't they? I have a table for puzzles and need to start a new one but while it was cleaned off everyone put stuff on it. Now I have to clean before I can puzzle.
I ordered wax which I've never used so it'll be interesting to see what kind of hold that gives me.
I have a friend who uses wax and he says his hair doesn't move. Not in a "oh my gel much" type of hold but just a nice solid hold that doesn't look yucky.

@BrightEyes I hope you take it easy today and are able to keep the back pain to a minimum and short duration.

I got a few pages scrapped yesterday for my personal scrapbook. Felt good. I am up to 1-6-25 now. Why do I take so many photos???? I am loving my TaylorMade templates I bought with the prize money. They've allowed me to add tons of photos to a layout and it was fun. Yes the photos are small since its so many but ya know how you have 100 photos of kids opening presents and what do you do with them? Yeah, thats what I did. Most are just his face as he was laughing and smiling so it turned out awesome.

Off to get ready for church and feed the dogs. Have a wonderful day!!!

HA! I know the feeling of having to clean off a space before you can do what you want to do!

Hi Everyone! It's been a busy weekend here. Thank goodness for steroids, as I wouldn't have been able to do any of it with them. Yesterday we had a womens bible study for 15 ladies, so I was there helping with the set up, food and clean up. Today I had two events at church so I worked 4 hours today. Unfortunately I missed worship. But get this. For one of the events there was food being delivered. I had checked my email on the way to church for the confirmation and there wasn't one. An hour later, I checked again, and there was a cancellation email!! :eek3:The event was an hour and a half out. At that point I made a back up plan with leftovers from yesterdays event. But me and Mark drove the restaurant to see what was going on. There was a power outage, and it was closed, but they saw us peering in the windows and indicated us to come in, so we did, and our food was ready!!! They had made it before the outage. The outage was widespread, but at church we only lost wifi and internet so they couldn't stream our service. Then I came home and slept all afternoon. My back is still sore, I'm not making beds or vacuuming, most of my awake time has been sitting here with the heating pad. It's the best.

The other thing I did last night was finish and upload Erinn and Pauls wedding album. Their 5th anniversary is at the end of February. I made about 30 pages yesterday, marching picture by picture and plugging them into various templates I've made over the years. I started it exactly a year ago, and it sat dormat at 35 pages complete until yesterday. I uploaded 66 pages last night, including a cover and a "card" page that says Happy Anniversary at the end. I used a company called PaperKiwi. I think they're in Utah. I've used them before and been happy with the quality. And the price was significantly less than Shutterfly, and, it didn't accept some and decline some of the layouts.

After that success, I uploaded the album I made but never printed for Belle's 8th grade DC trip. That was in 2011!! o_O She will be surprised when I give it to her, and I'll be off the hook!:giggle4:

It's time to go feed doggies their dinner. Oh, and tomorrow is paid holiday, so working the extra hours this weekend will be made up for tomorrow!

I haven't read back very far, but @vickyday @faerywings and @BrightEyes I hope all your backs feel better, and @vickyday I hope we don't get too much snow, but some will be nice! @AK_Tracy any excess past that "nice" threshold I'll send your way.

Good Day...We are supposed to get snow on Tuesday(at least 2-4 inches!!). We never get snow, and if we do, it does not stick. our city is in total chaos- stores are being cleared out of food and essentials, we stock up snacks like we are having a hurricane!! Parking lots are full, check out lines are full. It is really nuts, and all funny. We literally close the city when there is snow or ice because we can't drive in ice. I hope my grandson enjoys it!!

:wow2::wow2::wow2: Oh my goodness!!! I bet you had a slight freak out. I would have. God is so good.Glad the food was ready before the outage.

Please send it back up to Alaska!! All we've had is rain which is freezing when it hits the ground. Roads are flooding (1-3") because the drains are plugged with snow turned ice. Hope you all stay safe and have enough snacks.

@faerywings Somewhere you asked about fat for suet. I've never made it myself, but, I can tell you that animal fat will be better than vegetable shortening. Part of that is the shortening will melt in the sun and make a mess. The other part of that is their little bird bodies likely won't know how to process the bad stuff in it. I'm no expert, but this IMHO. The animal fat is harder, is natural, and their bodies would process it all easier.

Also, I've seen suet in the grocery store, in the meat section. You might ask if your local store has it. Or see if they have fat cut offs.
