Wow, a slow start to this weekend. It is after 1 pm and I am finally getting time to open this thread (again-- *anyone* can do that if they want!!).

I didn't get out bed until almost 7 am, which is late for me. I was so exhausted. I put away 3 loads of laundry that had been piling up in the laundry room. I helped Caitlyn dye her hair since she can't reach the back. And we all laughed at Jaida as she ran around the house with her bowl *and* her tennis ball in her mouth. At the same time. She runs around with her empty dish like Snoopy all of the time. Gary tossed the tennis ball to her while she had the bowl in her mouth already and when she ran around the staircase, both of them were shoved into her mouth. So silly!!

Yesterday was Cait's last day of work before she starts school on the 20th so Gary and I made her one of her favorite dinners- caramelized onion and garlic pasta and I made homemade french baguettes. Usually, I just have the bread machine bake the bread but this time I took the dough and made it into actual loaves of bread.
Scott and Leah are at my parents' lake house for a weekend getaway. I hope that they are getting some good downtime in together. I know that Scott needs it. He went into work yesterday morning just to make sure that they guys knew what to do with the boss and the other manager were both off. He comes in a couple of hours later and tells us that he had to call the police because he found 2 Molotov cocktails on the grounds. Thankfully, they landed in gravel became one has the wick all charred, the other one was filled with gasoline but the rag must not have ignited. The place has been having problems with vandals for the last month with someone cutting the drip lines- just a couple of cuts at a time but enough to do a good amount of damage.
Scott ordered a motion sensor camera but they haven't gotten anything on it except for a very creepy bunny who wasn't there one frame, staring at the camera in the next frame and then poof- gone again. LOL

The cops said that if it weren't for the initial police report for the cut lines they would just figure this to be kids being stupid but with the other issues, they are going to step up patrols and see what they can find.
Never dull!

Not much else happening here. The weather seems to be lovely and I was out collecting some grape tomatoes and checking on the pole beans. I have not a clue on how to know if they are ready to be picked or what to do with them when they are.
Any ideas??

Enjoy your day!

Nancy- did you leave yet for SC? I hope that you get to see the eclipse! Be safe with your eyes.
Excellent news about getting out with Luther twice. You both must be so happy.

Trudy- have a wonderful time with the Grands!!!!! That is sure to give you a boost if you are missing Hunter and Mason a bit.
Maybe the roses need a year off to re-establish themselves. I know sometimes when you transplant it takes them a bit to get their root systems working again. The monarda that I moved to the back of the garden is all droopy looking. I wish Scott was here, I would ask him if I should cut them down to let all of their energy go back into the roots. They aren't bulbs so I think not... so I will wait till he gets home before I do anything.
I follow Diana Gabaldon on Twitter and I cannot stand it when she talks about Book 9-- :wait1:

For you Discovery of Witches fans, I also follow that author and I am totally blanking on her name darn it--- but I think that DoW is going to be a movie/TV show. I saw something about casting calls. Very cool!

Jean- quick question for you, Gary is now thinking that he might want to have DNA testing like 23 and me or Ancestry.com does. Lyme patients who don't get well often have a MTHFR gene mutation. Do you have any links to the gene testing done at either of them? Trudy- did you do that with FIL or just the membership to the site?

Rae- wow, another 5 bags! You are going to have an empty closet very soon.
yes, I have that problem too with the rotation! I turned a gesture off for rotation and I don't think that it has happened since then. But yesterday, the Ctrl was making me crazy.
Hope that you had a successful trip to Bellingham.

hugs!

Chris, the DNA tests at Ancestry are strictly for genealogical purposes and don't give any health related info. 23 and Me does health related testing, but I am not familiar with what they cover. Wish I could be more help, but that's all I know.

Spent the morning viewing a live webinar in two parts on DNA genealogical research, so the topic is very much on my mind at the moment.

Good afternoon, ladies. I was up at 7:30 and went to grab my wacom tablet pen to use with my laptop and it didn't work, even after taking it apart. It's an old pen so it may be time to replace it. The only sucky thing about it is that I was looking forward to scrapping today but that's not going to happen now without my tablet to use. So I guess I'll be relaxing and watching TV tonight and maybe perusing the gallery and pinterest. I've got my online magazines to read too.

We headed out early this morning for a day of shopping We dropped my clothes off at 2 consignment stores this morning and then I shopped at both stores. I ended up buying 25 shirts, a few sweaters and 2 jackets. What a good score today! Everything was so cheap. I've been so lucky to buy all my winter clothes at such a great cost.

Chris - I read DOW books, I'm on book 2. I got about halfway thru it and then my ereader wiped out so I'll have to request it again at the library to finish it. I think you asked yesterday what Radium Girls was about. If so, it's about the girls working in the watch factories, starting in the early 1920's.

Now I'm going to start Lilac Girls, about 3 women during World War II. But first, I'm heading out for a long walk with Taz before dinner and then watching some shows.

Trudy - bet it was a fun day out on the water.

Jean - sounds like a good morning for you, watching the genealogy webinar.

I'm heading out for a walk with Taz now I'll be back later.

What a pretty morning, if a bit cool. Nice blue skies. It was nice yesterday but it did get hot out in the sun. I popped over to BFFATS to sit out and chat for a little while. By the time I got back home, I was sweating. Gary had the air on and it felt good to cool off a bit.

It was a quiet day after I posted here- considering that half of the day was over, it should not be that much of a surprise. Today is kind of the same, I need to clean my kitchen and mop the floor, maybe do some yard work? I'd like that. :D

Not much else here, wishing all of the best!

Jean- that is what I thought about Ancestry vs. 23 and me, thanks for letting me know for sure. Hope your genealogy webinars were informative for you.

Rae- what is it with all of our tablets and pens?? That stinks about yours breaking :( On Friday, mine got "lost" for 2 hours. I had in my hand, next thing I knew it had flown out of it and I couldn't find it. Anywhere. Gary came in and we looked behind the desk and door under furniture, on top of the desk. even in my hair! My office area is really and truly only 8x8- there isn't much place for it to go. It had managed to lodge itself in the heating baseboard, but in the small section that is blocked by the desk. No idea how it got wedged in there. I ended up using my mouse most of yesterday, didn't want to lose it again! Radium Girls sounds like it would be hard to read. One of the main characters in the book that I am reading worked with his father in the garment district in NYC in the 1910's at the time of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and I cannot imagine the working conditions in those time periods.

:jaw: That is a great shopping score for you!

HAGD everyone!

Good morning, ladies. Had a quiet night, watched TV (Killjoys) and then a few episodes of Unibomber which has a good cast, we like it. I was falling asleep before 11. Had a good sleep and woke up to a cool morning, had to put a sweater on. The weather is really starting to change now. The afternoon gets warm but the morning and evening really cool off now, so we are back to our normal weather. Will be heading home soon and have some CT and desk work to do. Later this afternoon I will head out to a park in Vancouver with our local photography club. We'll be photographing the flowers there which will be fun as I haven't been there in 3-4 yrs. Then home for a late dinner and watch Game Of Thrones. I've got a really busy wk ahead with work (covering for the other girl all week and it's going to be very busy) so am enjoying this quiet wkend before it all starts.

Chris - can't believe the tablet got lost like that. I believe it though b/c my little office isn't much bigger a room and I lose stuff in there all the time (it's jam packed in there). Yes, Radium Girls, was hard to read but I am glad to have read it and have a better understanding of that piece of our history now. I haven't read my latest book, Lilac Girls, all wkend, so am looking forward to sitting for an hour tomorrow morning and getting started on it. Enjoy your yard work today, I have to get out in my garden too and pull some weeds but will leave it til next wkend.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Afternoon Ozzies. Lovely day here. We're off to run errands like buying ink for the color printer so I can print the pages from DH's music group for tomorrow. Today's paper has a page on the solar eclipse (Everyone excited?) including methods of alternative viewing. DH has made a pinhole viewer, but I remember seeing a partial eclipse with this method described in the paper:

look at the shadow of a leafy tree during the partial eclipse; you'll see the ground dappled with crescent suns projected by the tiny spaces between the leaves.

Would love to get a photo of it.

Chris, what madness with the hidden pen! Hope you have a peaceful day.

Same for you Rae. Cannot believe you really got 25 shirts. WOW. Great going.

Hopeful it's a good weekend for all and that US and Canada folks have fun (safely) with tomorrow's eclipse. (Trudy, is there an emoji for that?)
