Welcome to the NBK Technique Challenge!

This week we are going to focus on figurative artwork. That means we are working with a figure or silhouette. That can be anything! A person, element, building, you name it. You can make this as abstract as you want it! Here are some examples from the web!

MJtQ5yo.jpg

We can use an element already made from the designer, or make our own out of a photo, use shapes from photoshop or outline selections and fill them and then clip things to it. It’s all good! I will give you some tips later to get you started!

I made a page as an example! I made art from a photo! From this-

To this-

I used Art and Journal

There are many ways to do this in Photoshop and PSE! It all depends on the photo and the effect you want to achieve. That's why this is not a tutorial to follow. I will give you some tips to get you started. This is suppost to be fun and I want you to experiment and try things out! Take it as far as you want to go! It's your art! it can't go wrong! And remember you are free to use some ready to go elements from the designer too, if you don't want to make art from a photo.

Here are my screenshots from how I started: ( I always start by making my layers with all the filters on it, so I can stack them and blend them all together, with blendmodes or layermasks!)

I started by making a Threshold of the photo:

RZKNClz.jpg

I made a PNG out of it. (I extracted the white background with the Magic wand tool)
Note! At this point you can make more selections in your photo and put them on seperate layers to have more options to use. You can clip styles, papers, elements to these selections.

I also made Color range selections of the Original photo! Each on different layers:

The more colors you select and copy and paste to a new layer, the more possibillities you have to do artsy things with it.

Here you can see me using some styles from Art and Journal! Especially the one with the text is fun don't you think! Don't forget to rasterize the layers! You can use another style or set the Blendmode this way. ( Just rightclick on the layer and choose rasterize.)

You can check out the videos for more help with the styles and products here;

After that I also used some Filters from the artistic gallery on my page! I stacked all the layers and played with the Blendmodes. I also reversed some layers (Ctrl I)

Here are some fun filters to use:

If you make a PNG out of this you can clip things to it! I clipped the text style to a layer made with this!

There are many more! Go look what is awesome for your photo!
Note! The abstracter you will make this the more you need a good sharp figure of silhouette in your photo! Note! Don't forget to try things out with the sliders, You can adjust a lot of settings on your filters that give different results! Repetition is something that works great in this concept!

If you decide to use some figures and shapes already made by the designer here are some tips:

Merci pour ce challenge. Je ne sais pas si je corresponds bien aux consignes. Mais j'ai fait plusieurs couches avec des calques et des filtres différents.

This wasn't too easy for me. The first LO I did wasn't coming together. I still wasn't ready to give up but I somehow lost the file. This one came together a lot easier, but was still a lot of work. Happily I also enjoyed the process. Thx for the challenge.
