As Karen Shultz indicates in the tutorial, brushes can be used in many ways. In this layout I combined two of Jopke's Edge Brushes to give the wood background some darker areas. Then I used Vicki Robinson's texture brushes as an eraser to remove some of the wire and to grunge up the title.

I blended paper 3 over paper 1 using the overlay lode then layered stamps, gesso, and overlays onto it, added the picture added a few elements - love that line drawing! - then the word art and journaling.

I created this artsy hobby (hiking & photography) page for the challenge using some products from the Featured Products for January 2022 (except for the gesso). I love to combine both hobbies together, getting some exercise and taking photos along the way.
For the background I blended paper #6 over paper #9
For the remainder of the LO, I used various illustrations - some extracted, others not with the two larger ones clipped to two of the photo masks.
Then I simply layered on elements and blended other illustrations beneath them until it looked...
