I hate Netflix right now

I need to vent!

SPOILER ALERT!
IF YOU PLAN TO WATCH MY OXFORD YEAR ON NETFLIX - DON'T SCROLL DOWN.

I wanted to see a nice romantic comedy. Picked Netflix's new My Oxford Year. Yes, I checked it: it's listed as a romantic comedy. Also rewatched the trailer now after watching the movie ... not a sign that it's not a regular rom com.

It was horrible! Why is there trigger warnings for basically everything but sad effing endings?!! I've been crying like an idiot. It's 1am here, and how on earth am I supposed to get some sleep now. I hate sad endings. I can handle that it's a bit sad along the way, but there must be a happy ending.

I said before I picked a movie "Should I go for love or murder?" I should have picked the next episode of Midsomer Murders instead.

Oh my dear so sorry to hear about your bad experience, I hope that you will be able to get some sleep. I haven't able to sleep for the electric storm, but soon I'm gonna head off to bed.
Don't trust the classifications, the same thing happened to me recently with a retro film (The New Hampshire Hotel 1984), it was classified as a romantic comedy, and well, after 20 mins. I was already wondering what kind of psychopath had classified it as a comedy, and two thirds of the way through the film it was clear that it wasn't a romance, I finished watching it wishing I had never watched it, the worst movie for me, letting along Creature from the black lagoon (1954).

I don't know if you've watched a movie called Young woman and the sea (2024)? it's a good movie, I really enjoyed watching it. It's not romance, or comedy but biographical.

By the way thank you so much for the warning, I had the movie in my list to watch, I've deleted it, I hate sad movies, there's enough suffer on Earth, at nowadays it's enough to turn on the news to get a daily dose of drama, movies should serve to take us away from reality and bring us some joy. I hug you from a distance.

I was thinking of watching Midsomer Murders - is it good?
If you like British crime, it is. It's the best British crime show in that cozy way like only British crime can be. Watch one episode, they are all like seperate movies. There's a murder (or like 4-5) in a small village & Barnaby solves it. No gory details. Just a classic puzzle to solve.

Exactly! I really need to escape reality these days & need to have my happy endings. Also, I'm extra sensitive, I think, when it comes to cancer (which was what created the sad ending in this movie) ever since I lost my sister to it.

That sounds right up my alley!

I too try to avoid the theme, because my dad passed away for cancer, so I won't torture myself watching that movie, thanks for the warning.

MM is one of my all-time favorite shows. Have been watching it for years. Makes me feel like I'm living in England again, except we didn't witness a murder while living there. Thanks for the info on My Oxford Year. I'll pass! There's enough real-life sadness in the world for me these days. :sad2:
