Daily Ooos May 24-25: Weekend Edition

CHEERY O
It's Memorial Day Weekend here in the US and I am thinking of all those lost in too many wars/conflicts since the beginning of our country's existence. May we not lose any more.:praying2:

How was your Friday? I was both busy and productive and a little lazy. I didn't have to leave to clean until noon so I (tried) to tidy up my house as best as I could. Before I did any of that, I did a 30-minute beginner's yoga video. 90% of the flexibility I had a few months ago-- gone! Poof! Ok, maybe not quite that much but it is not where I was. My hope is that it comes back quickly as long as I keep up with the sessions. Goal: At least a 20-minute session every day this weekend.

In the afternoon, I puttered around a little, then cooked an early dinner. I DVR'd "Next to Normal," a play BFF and I had seen together when it opened on Broadway -- sheesh, maybe 17 years ago? It's about a bipolar mom whose infant son died and how it affects her family years later. Not a happy one, but one we both related to and bawled our eyes out together. BFF lost her son when she was in her third trimester and when we saw this together, I was going through hell with Gary, as he was diagnosed with one psychiatric disorder after another. I didn't cry last night but choked up more than once.

The highlight of my day was when Scott texted me last night. He ran a program for the Parks department and a couple of my Weis kids were there. No idea how the conversation came up but apparently they told him that they love Miss Chris at the New Weis Center. ♥ He couldn't remember their names but the next time they see me, they are supposed to tell me that Ranger Scott said hi.

It's finally not raining here so I'll be working outside today even though it is cold. I have to start raking the dead leaves out of my garden areas. I also found the milkweed seeds I saved last year. :woohoo: I'll get them in the ground too. I don't know if they'll germinate, but if I can get some growing on the side of my house, they will eventually spread out nicely. My veggies are ready to get planted too but I might wait another few days since it's still chilly. They are in the "greenhouse" ATM. I always feel silly calling it a greenhouse b/c that makes me think of a tall and beautiful glass structure. My greenhouse is made up of some shelves covered by clear plastic. But it works!

Wishing all of you a fabulous day and weekend!

loved the boat into the swamp some day I will make a page.
I can't wait to see what awesome wildlife and plants you got pics of! What was the most fascinating to you?
So proud of our DIL she ran again in the NYC 1/2 Marathon with her running friend.
Congrats!! As someone who doesn't run unless there is a psycho killer clown after her, I am very impressed.
No plans for the Memorial weekend holiday... just stay off the roads. Will read and watch some movies. Been craving hot dogs for some reason... have to dig out some hot dog buns today.
I guess it is that time of year and all of the grocery adverts for burgers and hot dogs on sale LOL!
I have been stalking the Pre-Release section for any Color Plays, but nothing yet. :crying1:

Ha! Love the LBJ definition! What is the name of the book? I may have to invest in one! ;)
The Birding Dictionary I'm sure it is on Amazon. It is very cute, I was flipping through before I wrapped it and I couldn't stop chuckling.
Congrats to your grand!! And also for getting your cholesterol number down. That is not easy.

I got sprung this morning about 10:30. Stopped and loaded up on Popsicles. Picked up prescriptions in Pine Island and we're going to Lauren's track meet in about half an hour, she's doing hurdles in the jv elite meet this afternoon and we've never seen her do hurdles. I'm a little more scrambled than usual which I know is hard to believe.
Are you bonkers??? Get sprung from major surgery and a few hours later, you are at a track meet? Either they gave you too many Percocet or you are a Rockstar Grandma! (maybe both??) I know you are a rockstar but try to rest today, maybe?? :D

We went out today to get a few groceries, the we filled up the truck with diesel and went to look for fireworks store...well it wasn't there so since we had food we decided to make a trip toward Charleston tomorrow where there were many stores showing up on internet. We took a little walk along the river...it is flowing like crazy.
Ugh! Sorry that you couldn't get the fireworks, good luck today! Be careful on the roads too.
The weather up north has been pretty crappy so I hope it gets better before we get there otherwise I will be whiny and crabby!!!
I hope so for both our sakes! :D
Hope everyone is doing well! My friday afternoon today consisted of a lengthy nap! I guess it was needed.
The weekend was going to be me home alone on dog duty, but plans changed so Mark is home. Looking forward to some down time and a BBQ on Sunday. Quick in and out tonight! Have a great evening everyone.
Enjoy the quiet weekend, glad you listened to your body and got a good nap.

@tanteva thanks for the recipe input! It's hard to find vegan Worcestershire sauce here too, so I sub Liquid Aminos. I'll try adding dijon to the "meat" next time and leave out the nutmeg.
Do you boil the potatoes with any spices? Or does the ligonaberry add the flavor? Not sure where I would bgetlingonberry jam but I have a Swedish neighbor who I'm sure would hook me up.

xoxoxo

Good morning to all those who will enjoy the memorial weekend. and a Good morning to those who do not celebrate it. Thank to all those men and women to whom we celebrate this Memorial day.

@faerywings working on a swamp page. I did post a page of Dear DIL crossing the finish line on Coney Island NY
You would have loved the swamp ride I am sure., our guide is getting his masters in the field of conservation of wildlife so he was very knowledgeable.
I hope you get to meet up with your fan club of kids that would be fun i'm sure.
I hope you can get out into your gardens to clean up, its exciting to see the new growth starting... You should have no trouble getting the milkweed to grow. In my gardens in Florida I have them self seeding everywhere from the adult plants. Good luck.
Please do a good weather dance so it gets nicer up there...I've turned into a Florida whimp and want warm weather.

@mimes1 I know you will make the most of the weekend not mater what happens.

@tanteva and Chris ...somehow I thought you had to use nutmeg to make Sweedish meatballs...I use meat but still seems you need the spices, now you are making me want some. My granddaughter makes her lasagna with a dash of nutmeg in the cheese, everyone loves it, so maybe it's my family.

@JeanneMN rest and heal.

@vickyday birding book with humor..love it. so glad he is enjoying it. Does he use the Merlin app which identifies bird calls. I use it as we travel so I know what is out there singing to me. and bonus is its free.

Go to get those fireworks for our son...if we don't we wont have a very good show at his cabin in upstate NY on 4th of July.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy the long weekend if you have one.

@BoatLady The only thing I use nutmeg in is macaroni. I make a simple white sauce (flour, butter, milk, salt, white pepper, sugar and nutmeg) and pour over cooked macaroni. Stir, and serve with meatballs or sausage. And ketchup, of course!

Morning, all... woke up at 6 AM to bright sunshine lighting up the master bedroom - even though all the windows have blinds on them!!! The days are getting longer, too. Feels like summer has arrived to stay. I need to pack away the heavy comforter and put the lighter weight summer one on the bed. I turned off the heat and shifted over to A/C but didn't turn it on yet... even though it was up to 91° outside yesterday. The house stayed nice and cool. Thank goodness for the well-insulated house.

Had so much fun with using Midnight Murmurs Collection by Art Addicts Design for Challenge #3 - Storybook. Always love fantasy themes and their collections are fantastic. Then got caught up on scrapping a few of the yet-to-be released Color Play collections.

Guess it is time for my shower and get dressed. HAGWeekend

Sounds like life is getting back to somewhat normal for you.....whatever that means! ;)

Hello all,

Thought I'd pop in and say "hey". Well, last week was a whirlwind. We had tornado warnings and TAKE CCOVER warnings on our phones. We all went to Adrienne's to take cover. We were lucky - there were some touchdowns about a mile from us, but fortunately the storm passed over us. It was the first time we actually had to put our "storm plan" into place.

Roger is is out of town, so Adrienne became the "Ranch Boss". The guys all went around and got all the vehicles and equipment into covered shelters. The garages and barns were chock full by the time they got through. Adrienne was riding all over on their ATV making sure things got done.

Having lived through some hurricanes, in Florida, we did have a "storm plan". With hurricanes, you have a lot more time to get your plan together, though. We didn't get a lot of warning. It was a "watch" then all of a sudden, it was a warning.

New topic, LOL. I know some of you saw the pictures from Ava's shower on FB. Here's the link in case you didn't. I know that Tracy @AK_Tracy isn't on FB so I'll try to get some posted on Instagram today.

Sorry I can't do any personals, but I'm thinking of all the warriors who have served/are serving in the military and especially those who never returned home. I created two layouts "Never Forget" for mixed media by Erin and dedicated one of them to my Uncle Franklin, who's plane was shot down over Germany. They never found any remains. My Uncle Richard served in the Navy and was on an aircraft carrier for most of the war.

Have a safe Memorial Day. Hugs to all and XOXO.

Thanks to you and Debby! Just ordered the bird book from amazon! @BoatLady It is supposed to be here tomorrow!

I saw that collection from Art Addicts in their newsletter! Gonna check it out for the challenge!

Happy Sunday!
And yes, I do *finally* see some sun. Yesterday turned out to be a very mixed bag of weather, with the only constant being chilly temps. I tried to work outside, got too cold and came back in. I tried again after lunch, and worked for about an hour when it started to rain. Well, phooey.
I gave up, took a shower, scrapped a page, and then my ILs popped in.

My plans for today are basically the same as yesterday. Yoga, grocery order/meal planning, my mom is pickuin gup the sheets and towels on her way to PA. Then I am going to see how much yard work I can squeeze in.
At some point today, I also need to work on the prep for my HS class on Tuesday. As I was waking up, I had a really cute idea for a game and I hope I can remember it. I am teaching the water cycle and I want to combine that with a game of tag. Kids will lie on the ground as water, a tagger will call out "evaporate," everyone gets up and runs. As the tagger tags, the other kids (water vapor) will hold onto each other until everyone is tagged. The tagger will call out "rain." Everyone lies down for a new tagger. Or something like that.

So that is about it!

HAGD!

Please do a good weather dance so it gets nicer up there...I've turned into a Florida whimp and want warm weather.
dance3 :girldance:dance3
I'm trying!!
100% anecdotal but IIRC, NJ has been chillier than usual the last few Springs and warmer into the autumn. Who knows what is happening with the climate and weather these days? Not me, for sure.
Any luck getting fireworks?

@BoatLady The only thing I use nutmeg in is macaroni. I make a simple white sauce (flour, butter, milk, salt, white pepper, sugar and nutmeg) and pour over cooked macaroni. Stir, and serve with meatballs or sausage. And ketchup, of course!
^^ She is killing me. :knifehead:
Every Italian gene in my body is screaming.

I haven't seen that kit nor have I done the Storybook Challenge... :thinking2: :multitasking:

Eeeek!!! That would terrify me! So glad that you had your plan and were OK.
Thanks to you and Debby! Just ordered the bird book from amazon! @BoatLady It is supposed to be here tomorrow!
I hope that you enjoy it!

:waving1 hello to everyone!

Well, all the talk about crappy weather and we have lots rainy days coming up. It started about 4 this morning grrr. Lucky for me we have good internet here so I can post some scrapbook pages and catch up here.

@tanteva nutmeg in white sauce is interesting but no ketchup please. Just white sauce or just tomato sauce no mixing its confusing. I am going to try the nutmeg and white sauce when I get home.

@faerywings I guess your weather dance is helping a little since you got a little sun. Keep dancing and maybe the sun will come out more. Sounds like if one project doesn't work out you switch to another...no to gardening, yes to scrapping. I guess if you are not flexible you break!!!
Yes we did finally get Mike his fireworks...2 stores we went over his 600$ budget by 90$ but he is thrilled...We are going to have a great show on the 4th.I'm looking forward to that photo shoot!! The truck is packed now, every little space is filled!!! Lucky our SIL didn't want any this time I'm not sure where we would put them for the ride to CT.

@Cherylndesigns so glad you are all safe. Yikes your compound sounds very organized with your emergency plan with a ranch boss. That is scary. Tornados are really scary to me there is little to no warning. Years ago when we lived in TN we saw a funnel in the clouds but it never touched down, I was scared.
The baby shower pics on FB look fabulous. She looks so happy. We will be looking forward to seeing baby pics soon.

Yesterday I noticed the guy next to us with his binoculars looking for birds. so last night we had a campfire and invited them over. I had an interesting bird chat with him. I told him about "the bird book" He spotted a rare thrush by the river we were going to go look for it today I was going to take my camera to try to get a shot of it but not with this rain. so nice to have some bird fans here.

@BrightEyes well glad your weather is changing maybe the rest of the country will get back to seasonal temps. Enjoy

Have a sparkling day

Debby @BoatLady it was very scary! We live on 75 acres and have a crew (mostly the guys in the family) who work every day. We also have several tenants down on the lower part of the property. So, the guys were extremely busy taking care of all of the vehicles on the property.

Thanks for your sweet comments on FB. You know I'll be showing Peanut's baby pictures to anybody who will look my way.:floorlaugh: BTW, Peanut's name is going to be Boston Yona. I had a sweater made for him that has his name on it. Ava's holding it up in one of the pictures. Also the navy blue Boston Red Sox Jersey is from me. I had Vance 3 put on the back. SO cute. Chris @faerywings I'm sure you saw those two pics, too. I honestly wasn't crazy about that name, but it's growing on me. It's actually gaining in popularity. Who knew??? His middle name Yona means bear in Cherokee. Peanut's daddy is Cherokee. I'm teasing Ava that after Peanut is born, I'm going to call him Little Bear.

Can't believe it... I slept in until after 8AM!!! Talk about lazy bones... :floorlaugh: Could have something to do with changing the light-weight summer comforter for the heavy winter comforter... slept all night long - no tossing the comforter on and off! :lovey3: Also ran the ceiling fan until I turned the light off at 9:30PM. Guess my body was making up for the broken nights sleep over the last week. Need to make sure the camera battery is fully charged... we usually have lots of hot air balloons flying over my neighborhood on Memorial Day holiday. The winds have been fairly calm in the mornings so I expect they will filling the sky tomorrow. That reminds me... I need to hang the flag outside by the front door early tomorrow.

Been working this morning on sorting the collections from the computer's Working folder into the Scrapping folder and also into the ExHD Scrapping. I'm almost 6 weeks behind on getting that done. Have to remember to unplug the ExHD from the computer when we have thunder/lightening... I forgot to do that this past week!!! Would hate to lose all of them if we had a bad power surge. I do have everything on surge protectors but hate to take a chance on that.

@Cherylndesigns I was concerned about your area being in the path of the tornados... glad your family has a plan and put it to work yesterday. I keep watch on that area as DD#2 lives fairly close to you (near Branson, MO). We live in Tennessee 3 different times and had several tornados hit near us each time... so scary... as there wasn't a shelter we could go to.

It was very scary, Kay @BrightEyes - when you get a TAKE COVER alert, that's as real as it gets. Thanksfully, it missed us, not by much, but it did. I was just in Branson a couple of weeks ago. What a cool area. Asher plays the cello in an Honors Orchestra, and they were in a big competition there.

It's really scary when you have no place to go in a tornado. They say to go to an inside room (usually a bathroom) and get in the tub. I was at my sister's once time, in Indiana, and a tornado went over their town. We sat in a hallway (the only inside room) and threw pillows and blankets in there.

Ok we are all afraid of tornado's !!!!

@Cherylndesigns I saw the Boston but I thought it was sports related...what do I know???

rained on an off here all day...fist bad day of our trips so not really a complaint. I made a couple page and posted in my album. Then I read and talked to friends on the phone. Old marina friends from CT now have health problems:sad1:, my Florida friends miss me and I sure miss them, chatting with grandchildren and daughter always a highlight of my day:bowdown3::bowdown2:. Just over 2 weeks to see our kids and grandchildren. :woohoo:
The rain stopped so we grilled some steaks with mushrooms and salad perfect dinner with a glass of yummy red wine (cured in bourbon barrel)---red meat-red wine.

Back to my book--digi-chat tomorrow!!
