Journaling: How did I come to regard the VA Hospital's chapel - really just another nondescript grey-green room inside the building's drab brutalist shell - as my "parish" while in school? For starters, it was right across the street - an important consideration, especially during winter holidays in a town whose city fathers didn't make snow removal a priority. And I grew to enjoy the stout ex-army chaplain's homilies - often the same (very) short war story about being able to say mass in five minutes under battlefield conditions.
