The Meeting Place

Yes, another random page for my Chicago vacation book. I think I should just give up the pretense that I will ever get around to scrapping all eleventymillion photos from this vacation in any kind of meaningful way. :)

Actually, we travel in a pretty random way, so scrapping in a random way has a certain resonance. We rarely have a plan when we travel and tend to figure out on the fly where we want to go and what we want to do. On this day we caught a bus at the north end of N. Michigan Ave. and road it south. Whenever we saw something interesting, we'd hop off and take a look. We did the same thing on the way back. Not sure we saw everything there was to see, but we sure saw a lot!

Journaling reads:
"From Cafe Society and the neighboring National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum we walked west for a block on E. 18th St. back to S. Michigan Ave., caught the #22 bus going north and hopped off at E. Roosevelt Rd. This is the southwest corner of Grant Park and the home of Agora. Agora is a sculpture comprised of 106 nine-foot tall headless torsos, each figure made from a single seamless piece of cast iron that had been allowed to rust, the artwork deriving its name from the Greek word for meeting place. The figures are posed walking in groups in various directions or standing still. Created by internationally renowned Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, the sculpture was brought to Chicago by the Chicago Parks Dept. in 2006 as a permanent loan from the Polish Ministry of Culture. This seems to be a love it or hate it work of art; we loved it!"

Thanks for stopping by!
Since I happen to know that you're a scientist, it was interesting to hear about your spontanaity in traveling. Perhaps it is because of your methodical job that your travel style is so extreme opposite? Interesting! This is a wonderful depiction, both of this unusual scene and also your path to get there. I like it!
