I think that this family portrait was taken in 1913 just before my grandmother departed for America. She joined her brother and his wife on the Imperator Ocean Liner and disembarked at Ellis Island. She first worked as a house girl in the new country and later earned her nursing degree.

The Process
I imported a solid paper from AP Old World. The photo was clipped to a FotoBlendz Overlay 7 mask, with the blending mode of the mask changed to luminosity to allow some color from the paper to show through. The duplicated with the blending mode changed to Screen (to lighten it up) and a Magic Sparkle (inverted to white) was placed between the photos to further lighten up the faces. Next several transfers from AP Old World were placed on the paper. Taped Textures were layered. They were too black for what I wanted so the blending mode was changed to overlay and then the textured tape was duplicated. Buttons, luggage, banner, tag, butterfly and Subtle Quotes Travel were added to complete the page.
