The Campfire

Still getting lost in my family history, I moved from the travellers to the miners on my mother's side then got upset at the conditions my miner ancestors lived in and the inhumane way they were treated by the owners of the mines...so back to the travellers it is for the time being! For my book this will be a companion page for another photograph I scrapped in 2018 from the same occasion. I'm going to re-do the original 2018 page and make some alterations to it. This is a photograph from 1951 at St Boswell's gypsy fair, originally a focus for the trade of horses.

I began with the photograph and originally clipped it to a fotoblendz but wasn't happy so ended up binning that and just masking the photo. I tried hard to get some definition to the pic of my cousin sitting on my Aunt's knee - there was a bleached out strip down the side and the only way I could show her features was to use lots of layer copies with different blending modes, it's discoloured but I'm just happy that I can see her cute wee face nevertheless! Basically just another exercise of layering transfers and overlays then I decided to use the darker paper at the bottom of the page so erased the paper under the paper overlay to get this efffect.

gorgeous heritage page. i like the faded colours and your beautiful clustering on the right side. I understand your feelings about compiling your family history. those were very difficult times with many social injustices. .

Wonderful work! The use of the textures to ground the photo is brilliant! Love the embellishment on the side and the two-toned background.

Love this! Great extraction and texture. Great cluster, too. Who doesn't love a campfire, except for the smoke.
