The millennial rose tree is a legendary rose tree in the graveyard of
the Hildesheimer cathedral. It is also inspiration for .the emblem of
Hildesheim the rose.
It is closely connected to the founding of the Cathedral, City and
diocese in the 9. century. its said to be the symbol for the livinig in
this region.
The Rose tree was found after the WWII under detritus burned but like a
wonder the rest of the rose tree begin to grow again.
The "Wonder of the Rose Tree" regain belief again after this, it was
thought of as a holy legend bevor, which could be found first in 16 century.



The legend



In the year 815 emperor Ludwig "the religious "(Son of Charlemagne )
take shelter in a palatinatein Aulcia (Elze) there he went hunting only
with a small attendance.
Suddently a white deer appeared in front of the hunters. Ludwig put
spurs to his horse and chased the Deer over hill and dale, crossing even
a creek, in the deep forest his Horse collapsed from exhaustion. the
deer flee his hunter. Alone and exhausted Ludwig blow his hunting horn.
without hearing any responds.
He took the cross which he wears anytime from his chest and hang it into
a bush, and started praying. he fall alseep soon after and awoke hours past.
he saw surprised his resting place covered with snow while everthing
else was green. His cross still hang in the arms of a blooming rose tree.
He tried to take it with him, but it was hold in pleace with all might.
A wonder happened, so the empemperor orer believed and vow to build a
chapel there.
Suddenly he heard hunting horns and his attendance appeared. and found
him. they heard amazed what happened.
Ludwig bulid the chapel there what became later the Hildesheimer cathedral.
